Or imagine wandering around a mountainous jungle in an amplified world like it's a fog forest. It would be way neater than manually tweaking the fog settings every time I entered a different biome. Vanilla basically had that for void fog but that's removed. The only variable fog is now the Nether fog. But also mods have done so like another anon has said.

I guess I'll never understand why this kind of minecraft is popular. It's always been about building and exploring for me. That's the main element of the game and what it does best. Combat in minecraft is shit, I don't know why it's all you guys can think about. I don't like this modpack because it makes it hard to enjoy just building and exploring (big scary boss monsters spawn near me when I'm just minding my own business in the overworld.) I think it looks neat but I'll be sticking to the vanilla+ server

The changes are so large that in my opinion you would basically have to rewrite the whole codebase, and then write a compatibility layer to convert each version to your codebase. It's probably on the same difficulty level as making your own mod loader like forge.

It's not really a kitchen sink. It's more like something between kitchen sink and expert. Some mods are gated one after another, but only within their own category (tech/magic/etc). For example, you need an assembly table and items from Buildcraft to craft most things from Thermal.

Got my first Dyson Swarm unit which is a really cool theoretical source of power gen. If you're interested you should look up some of the concepts, but simplified what this does is deploy rockets into space that contain solar sails and orbit a star, capturing the majority of the energy given off by that star.

In gtnh how it actually works is:

>Stick it on horus (this purple planet) because it has the biggest star out of all the galaxies so it gains the largest energy bonus
>Feed it 10,000 (expensive) Dyson swarm units
>Feed it tons of coolant
>Feed it enough computation from 4 maxed quantum computers, otherwise the swarm units shit themselves and 800 get destroyed per hour

Twist space has a dyson sphere program which has some crazy looking multiblocks but it's so expensive that it's laughable

The dyson exists because at this point in the game it becomes implausible to scale every other source of power generation except for naquadah fuel (which is also horrendous to scale, but still realistic). These are just really, really expensive solar panels. You have to feed it tons of coolant + swarm units because no matter how much computation you give the dyson it will still destroy 64 units every hour.

Like to make as much energy as a single Dyson using plasma (which is what I've been using until now) I would need to place and connect:

That's not true at all, even when you don't have centralized power and multiblock generators the processing times are still pretty long. It takes a full minute to make a stainless steel ingot at HV power, which is why you're incentivized to make more ebfs and more fuel to supply those ebfs. Infinite power storage only starts at UHV which is very, very, very lategame, and by that point you've already had power generation solved. The capacitor batteries are also very expensive for each tier and become insufficient quickly, so it's not like you have infinite power storage.

Looking for a technical modpack (other than GTNH) where dangerous enemies are the incentive behind technological progress.
Ever increasing difficulty represented by zombies, bloodmoons, mobs that pass thru blocks etc. And of course bosses. Stuff thats threatening at first but makes it rewarding to climb up the tech tree and trivialize it.
GTNH only has a little of this, you surpass all enemies rather quickly, or so i hear.

I would put Grimoire of Gaia if you're up for tougher mobs that are fantasy themed and around 50% monster girls. I think someone made a 1.12.2 mod to change the models to be more monstrous if you don't like monstergirls too much. Just make sure you have strong weapons or reduce the HP of all the GoG mobs in the config by half.

This seems promising. Based on the information I gathered it is possible to do in MCreator with Gekolib, a bizarre reference point but that seems to be how the developer of Monsters and Girls did it. I haven't tried it yet since I want to mess with a few things. Not sure if you can scale mobs in MCreator since I want my mob to be a little bit taller than the player, so I may need to adjust the model itself to be larger. Plus I have to redo some animations. It may be a bit before I attempt this method, so I'd suggest saving the video to a playlist.

WF's Cave Overhaul brings back the old cave generation. It also keeps the new 1.18 caves but makes changes to make the super-large-trailer-bait caves to be smaller and it makes caves less likely to be infinitely connected to each other.
Note: though the mod page says it doesnt cause lag on generation, I feel that it lags a bit when loading the chunks for the first time. Maybe because it adds lava waterfalls and the lava is updating?

I feel like 1.7.10 has more mods than 1.12 when you factor in that there are many mods for both 1.7. and 1.12 where the 1.12 version was completely gutted during the porting process and is thus not really worth using.
I think 1.12 just feels like it has more mods because it has a handful of mods that aren't available for 1.7 that are really packed with content and are higher quality than you would expect from a 1.7 mod. But it's all illusory.

Any of you guys tried the (relatively) new TFC mod called Hardrock? I played for a bit and it seems alright, but it takes forever to accomplish anything and looking further down the line for quests it seems like the endgame is getting automation set up with create and other techy mods.
