I still won that settlement, but I had to resort to mass opening glades during the storm because of the tools perk I picked up. Ended up having just enough to clear it
It's honestly a little weird how unbalanced the forbidden glades are
You have the dark gate, which is pretty much impossible (without killing a pop) unless you have all services and complex food fuffilled, then you have something like the fire sprite, which you will probably be able to handle at any point as long as you have some of those firestones a, or a molerat, which will basically be able to go unchecked the whole game if it's far enough away from you

I need help remembering a game. It was an RTS from roughly 15-20 years ago and looked kinda like AoE3/AoM, with that 'cartoony realistic' style, set during a medieval-ish era. I'm pretty sure there were multiple playable factions but I only remember one, and I think it was egypt-like and predominantly yellow. The big gimmick of the game was being able to personally control the hero unit in a third-person view for combat, and the standout moment was loading the hero onto a ship to take them to the enemy city, and from the deck of the ship you could snipe the opposing archers off the walls before landing and engaging the rest of the troops in melee.

If an unit is out of actions and movement, the game automatically takes you to the next unit, which is usually fun. UNLESS you're trying to clear terrain with a builder unit, in which case the game takes you away from it before you can give the order.
But honestly, I kinda like it. You can have short games (short by 4X standards anyway), and if you like fighting, you should love it. Because honestly you're constantly killing something: the bloody map is full of neutrals like Castellans, Umbras, Slavers, and the parasite wasps. Think Conquest of Elysium: by the way you meet with the enemy, you're already a veteran and your units are all toughened.
But yeah, I don't think there's any diplomacy at all.

Also dark eldars kinda suck, they's so bloody fragile, and some of their researches aren't translated.

I do appreciate the little tidbit of lore that Dark Eldars have a lot of neutral ports that trade in whatever goods, and are opened to aliens. And that they also employ a lot of mercenaries. That explains why other races aren't ganging up on them: they're too useful to be wiped.

I mean, it lacks CoE's economy, but honestly, it's a plus. I love CoE, but strategy wise, it's utter shit because map generation is so damn random. I got a bloody magical tree close to my villages, so new creatures constantly come out to recapture my only income.

You have to make thr best with what you've got and try to choose the orders you know you will be able to do
Sure, sometimes they're very hard, but others are basically freebies. Keep in mind that you can sometimes fufill orders with different means. An order that asks for a bunch of bricks doesn't necessarily mean you need to get the brickyard. You can buy the bricks, craft them in different buildings, maybe even find them
When you're early on in the game, you do have much less to work with in terms of buildings and stuff, but that begins to open up as you get further in
Sometimes runs live or die on the orders, but don't get too obsessive over them, as in later difficulties you'll have more rep to get than the orders will cover anyways

After experiencing such a brutal loss, I've decided to end my run of AtS here, with the Viceroy staring into a firemoth hearth. After having gotten all the way to the cobalt seal with no lost settlements until the last two at the very end, it just feels fitting to leave him there amongst the lost
I feel like I saw everything the DLC had to offer. I fucking LOVE the frogs so much. I really like the costal grove, too, but it does feel a bit too difficult to manage fuel on it. Much more than any of the others. Still, I had a ton of fun over my idk 80 or so hours on this run
Last time I cleared all of the seals, including the Adamantine seal, and with a win rate above 90% as well, but those last four seal do take forever, and I think the game does become less fun on the higher difficulties. It's not that I don't like the challenge, it's that I think some of the prestiges are not fun to play with and should be reworked. For example, Having less choices for blueprints, down to 2 from 4 is just too annoying to play with because it actively removes player agency by limiting your choices. I don't want to call it the "artificial difficulty" meme But I kinda feel like it is. Also feels weird that you get a citadel upgrade that increases it, only for it to be taken away late game. Idk I just feel like they could find better ways to make the game challenging than just taking away your upgrades

Polar Bears as the seventh playable race!
Native to the Snowy Hills, Bears are a hardy and humble species, who care more for the well-being of their fellow settlers than for themselves. They take comfort in community and excel at beekeeping. >Polar Bears have high resilience but need to take the longest breaks. Their resolve is middling to start out and have high decadance. As well as being the least susceptible to starvation.

That's also why heroes are interesting in Gladius, because they don't get weaker as they take damage, unlike normal squads.
And also I like how Gladius make transports so bloody good, because until you have an apothecary, you cannot reliably heal units.
And if you don't know, units only regain health if they haven't moved or done anything this turn, so either you put them on a town or a captured ressource hexagon, or you garrison them in a transport and let them heal slowly.

And Space Marines ARE the tall faction, they have only one town.

Yes. I think ressource nodes are +50% healing, and towns are +100%. So yeah, you're meant to retreat them to your territory to heal, especially since I think reaction shot cancel the healing, so the enemy can just follow them to prevent them from bandaging.
Transports get nothing, but allow you to move your units, so they're excellent.

Don't overestimate heroes, thought, they aren't like Dawn of War's heroes, and they can die quickly if targeted by an enemy town or too many anti-infantry units. Well, to a point anyway. An AI Tervigon (Tyranid hero) pretty much stopped my entire army until I got heavy firepower.

I mean, you'll quickly realize that forests and imperial ruins really slow your units down, and while towns and ruins give a nice ranged damage reduction, any unit currently running around and left in the open will be slaughtered by towns defenses, so transports are excellent for that too: get fresh units in, get wounded units out, and avoid having too many units in the field, because unless the enemy brings in infantry to defend the town, you won't need snipers or scouts taking up a slot.

It comes down to your personal preference.
If you are into star wras, try Interregnum or Thrawn's revenge.
If you are into star trek, armada 3 is great. Ages of federation would be cool, but it was pretty unstable on my old PC.
Sins of the prophets is the Halo mod, with unsymmetrical playable factions of UNSC and Covenant. Also it has Flood as extra difficulty option.

There's tons of other mods worth your time, but remember, these mods only work one at a time, so don't try mixing them.

Also, I'd recommend playing the game through vanilla style first.

I do have a major beef with DinaO: there's no real armor system. Age of Empires 2 has melee armor and pierce armour, and some counters. It doesn't work that way in DianO, and armor only means a flat damage reduction, without any real counter weakness.
Outside of spearmen doing 3x damage to horsemen, but horsemen are rare.

Personally I like limited resources, in the vast majority of situations. The original Yu-Gi-Oh was a weird example. When the first two seasons were originally broadcasted 20 years ago (early 2000s), it was good as far as I can remember, and I'm still surprised we had a VA good enough for someone as fabulous as Pegasus (all three Yami character also stand out in my memory). Then, when the other seasons got broadcasted on another TV station 10 years later, in mid or late 2010s, the quality suddenly dropped as an entirely different team started working on it. Stellaris was never desgined to make that a possibility. Before megacorp it was easier but even then managing a lot of planets required a lot of busy work. Play a better game I guess. Stars in Shadow has minimal planet management. Distant Worlds has only a few buildings you can build plus lots of automation.

This would depend a lot on where the city builder is set. Also it wouldn't be fun because every change in the game would take ages. Most economies before the industrial revolution and before capitalism (in its earliest form) had growth rates of 0.12% (this is the estimate for western europe). This is why almost all games with population and economic growth have very high growth levels.

The estimate it gives for eastern europe and asia (including russia) is at 0.04%. But europe started much poorer than a lot of places in asia. You mean how late in each settlement? It really depends. Sometimes I wont take those at all even at the start depending on what it is and what the other options are
As an example, if you have foxes, frogs, and humans, who all have a need for porridge, which wheat directly can craft, then you should always take that cornerstone regardless of when you are in the settlement. If you have the other 3 species, which don't care for porridge AND you also don't have an easy way to turn it into flour or packs of crops (or a use for flour or packs of crops) that cornerstone is essentially worthless as you'll just end up with 200 useless wheat in your storage. I guess you can sell it? It all depends on what your other choices are, too. It may be useless, but it may be less useless than some other thing or an extra 10 amber you might not need
Also I guess I would refuse other per minute cornerstones if I'm already stable on the thing they provide. I don't need 3 more clay per minute when I already have 200 in the storehouse and my buildings are all built

It's a shame that Firaxis didn't have better RPG chops because they obviously have/had interest in making some tactical RPG stuff. Xcom 1 having the stronger story emphasis, Chimera Squad with unique characters and voiced dialog, Midnight Suns going so far as to be Persona-like as well as having some great fucking combat. Unfortunately the writing wasn't good enough for any of them despite all games having nice combat, and Midnight Suns apparently flopping so hard that blessed Jake Solomon was wither shitcanned or left Firaxis which is criminal. Although I can understand it because I didn't even know Midnight Suns was turn based tactics pseudo card game RPG thing until well after it was launched because the ads I saw just looked like a beat 'em up and my eyes glazed over

knights are the single most efficient stat beatstick in the game
for the same amount of resources you need x4 the number of archer ranges AND stables AND vils on wood AND food AND gold just to match

knights have 100 hp and 2+2 melee armor with 10+2 attack
light cavs have 60 hp and 0+2 armor and 7+2 attack
a light cav needs 20 attacks to kill a knight, and a knight only needs 6 hits to do the same

xbows has 35hp and 5+2 pierce vs a knight 2+2 pierce armor
only a mass of 20+ xbows can kill knights in 1 shot, and that takes 5 minutes with 2 ranges
meanwhile the knights are already in your base and fucking your shit up, 3 knights are enough to completely shut down your econ and can literally just straight up fight anything you send to defend yourself

generally the builds in castle age follows from what you have built from feudal. competitive build orders usually involves rushes in feudal with units that your civ is good at. like brits want to do an archer rush, that kinda thing
what happens in castle age can vary a lot, depending on if you succeeded with the rush and cripple the opponent enough to gain an econ advantage

but if you're playing with bots in single player, whatever goes. extreme AIs are around 1000 elo, and you can cheese the AIs pretty easily

I would agree with you but there were too many other things in RT that chapped my ass. Even though I did like the game it really bugged me how Owlcat went from WotR which had some fairly dramatic flavor and fluff changes based on your mythic path (The main story still largely playing out the same but you get sizable chunks of different flavor text, some different scenes, maybe a few different quests, etc) and then RT has 3 main paths that do so little in comparison. Then the actual origins you can pick have one or two lines of fluff in the prologue and then don't come up in the game proper even when they should. And the hidden alignment-locked companions not having dialog when at least one of the chaos companions should be a font of dialog all annoys me more than fucking the fish

All that bitching said I haven't played since they did the big combat overhaul and certainly not since the DLC so I don't know if anything's changed. Like the Pathfinders I'll probably do a replay in a year or two once all the DLC's out. ALSO I'm not the anon that was playing for two months I'm just swooping in here from the shadows
