Ended up having just enough to clear itIt's honestly a little weird how unbalanced the forbidden glades areYou have the dark gate, which is pretty much impossible (without killing a pop) unless you have all services and complex food fuffilled, then you have something like the fire sprite, which you will probably be able to handle at any point as long as you have some of those firestones a, or a molerat, which will basically be able to go unchecked the whole game if it's far enough away from you

I need help remembering a game. It was an RTS from roughly 15-20 years ago and looked kinda like AoE3/AoM, with that 'cartoony realistic' style, set during a medieval-ish era. I'm pretty sure there were multiple playable factions but I only remember one, and I think it was egypt-like and predominantly yellow. The big gimmick of the game was being able to personally control the hero unit in a third-person view for combat, and the standout moment was loading the hero onto a ship to take them to the enemy city, and from the deck of the ship you could snipe the opposing archers off the walls before landing and engaging the rest of the troops in melee.
>>497775258Hard question. What exactly stops you?
>>497774105You struck a nerve.
>>497775258Remember, don't build everything on same planet.
So what do we think of this game?
>>497769471This is one of those things I really like in ES2. Supporting a newly settled world (not a full colony yet) requires transports that actually cross the map. In Stellaris everything is so detatched from place.

>>497759565>The gameplay is a lot better than building every single building on every single planet.Exactly. WELCOMETO ANOR LONDO
Eldar town for scale.Yes, it does look like Dawn of War buildings randomly mashed together. But Eldars are actually fun to play in that game.
>>497797582>SoB just cover the world in churchesGladius is looking cool, I really should try that out. Heard good things but I'm always such a diplomacy shitter I dunno if I'd get into all-war 4x
Is it true that in the new Men of War you are unable to mix and match weaponry by collecting enemy weapons? Having German squads with MG42s, bazookas, Garands and .50 MGs was the best part of Assault Squad 2. Historically stupid too given all sides of WW2 used captured weapons.
>>497797931Honestly, the main flaws I have with this game is that there's no diplomacy, there's too much DLC (but it's a moot point), and the way the game is made can be annoying. If an unit is out of actions and movement, the game automatically takes you to the next unit, which is usually fun. UNLESS you're trying to clear terrain with a builder unit, in which case the game takes you away from it before you can give the order. But honestly, I kinda like it. You can have short games (short by 4X standards anyway), and if you like fighting, you should love it. Because honestly you're constantly killing something: the bloody map is full of neutrals like Castellans, Umbras, Slavers, and the parasite wasps. Think Conquest of Elysium: by the way you meet with the enemy, you're already a veteran and your units are all toughened. But yeah, I don't think there's any diplomacy at all. Also dark eldars kinda suck, they's so bloody fragile, and some of their researches aren't translated.
>Oh look, these are the annoying moralists. "For the Greater Good." Shut up, talkative imbeciles. The Greater Good? Hah! Ethic is just a society-sized brainworm that goes against self-preservation. Let's just kill them all.

Dark Eldar town for scale, before I quit the game because two Catachan devils spawned on my kabalites and murderfucked them straight to Slaanesh.I do appreciate the little tidbit of lore that Dark Eldars have a lot of neutral ports that trade in whatever goods, and are opened to aliens. And that they also employ a lot of mercenaries. That explains why other races aren't ganging up on them: they're too useful to be wiped.>>497801182An entire race of half light.

Traveler here. There was a game I think in EA half a decade back (maybe less) with a similar theme to Surviving Mars, but it wasn't Surviving Mars. I got a bloody magical tree close to my villages, so new creatures constantly come out to recapture my only income.

The cobalt seal remains open.Do not destory the hearth of the firemoths. No good can come from it.
Maybe I'm just too new or bad at 4x/city management sims but this game is very strenuous I'm only on the second difficulty...
>>497830921What are you having trouble with specifically? I've got like 700h and think I'm pretty good at it (though I did just get my ass handed to me by the Forest)Still, my win rate is at 95% on this run and was over 90% on my lastYeah, I am bragging
>>497832596It feels like sometimes I get orders that are impossible to fulfill because I don't get the blueprints necessary to fulfill them so some settlements are kinda at the mercy of glade RNG to get what I need to either satisfy my residents or build reputation through other methods
>>497796313Okay. Next time post it in English so we would actually know.
Remember, people are a renewable resource.
>>497837409Yes, that does happen occasionallyYou have to make thr best with what you've got and try to choose the orders you know you will be able to doSure, sometimes they're very hard, but others are basically freebies. Keep in mind that you can sometimes fufill orders with different means. An order that asks for a bunch of bricks doesn't necessarily mean you need to get the brickyard. You can buy the bricks, craft them in different buildings, maybe even find themWhen you're early on in the game, you do have much less to work with in terms of buildings and stuff, but that begins to open up as you get further inSometimes runs live or die on the orders, but don't get too obsessive over them, as in later difficulties you'll have more rep to get than the orders will cover anyways
>>497837409I'm not >>497841918 but another tip I'd wanna add is don't fill all your orders if you'd be wasting the impatience loss. More of a low difficulty thing but it can still sometimes come up if you bang out an order or two in quick succession early on
>>497824001Bye Spider, I gotta go too, so no more bumping from me after this post.
>>497847823Yeah, what's a decent option thing to do is go call in a trader early on if you have an order ready to go to cancel out the impatience growth, but you risk it because he might not have anything you need that early, plus you might need a fast trader later on and it'll be too much impatience cost
After experiencing such a brutal loss, I've decided to end my run of AtS here, with the Viceroy staring into a firemoth hearth. After having gotten all the way to the cobalt seal with no lost settlements until the last two at the very end, it just feels fitting to leave him there amongst the lostI feel like I saw everything the DLC had to offer. I fucking LOVE the frogs so much. I really like the costal grove, too, but it does feel a bit too difficult to manage fuel on it. Much more than any of the others. Still, I had a ton of fun over my idk 80 or so hours on this runLast time I cleared all of the seals, including the Adamantine seal, and with a win rate above 90% as well, but those last four seal do take forever, and I think the game does become less fun on the higher difficulties. It's not that I don't like the challenge, it's that I think some of the prestiges are not fun to play with and should be reworked. For example, Having less choices for blueprints, down to 2 from 4 is just too annoying to play with because it actively removes player agency by limiting your choices. I don't want to call it the "artificial difficulty" meme But I kinda feel like it is. Also feels weird that you get a citadel upgrade that increases it, only for it to be taken away late game. Idk I just feel like they could find better ways to make the game challenging than just taking away your upgradesAnywaysLove frogsWill be back for more AtS with future updates. I'm gonna write up a suggestion for their suggestion site about BEARS as the 7th playable race alongside a Snow biome
>>497567230any tips for this?it's just a bunch of empty planets after I eat them allmy mid game is 2275 and there's barely any time for the pop growth to catch up
>>497837409Don't try and make a self sustaining city. Specialize in what the RNG gives you and sell everything you can (trade goods in particular). Then, when the trader comes you can buy everything you need.
>>497854176Also,if you're not on the royal woods biome, make it a priority to find an alternative to burning wood.
For all my Viceroys in here, rate my tired write up of my ideal Bears DLCGonna fix it up then post it to the request board, hopefully it goes somewhere in the endHarpies were added, afterall, based on a suggestion from thereAdd Bears!Polar Bears as the seventh playable race!Native to the Snowy Hills, Bears are a hardy and humble species, who care more for the well-being of their fellow settlers than for themselves. They take comfort in community and excel at beekeeping. >Polar Bears have high resilience but need to take the longest breaks. Their resolve is middling to start out and have high decadance. As well as being the least susceptible to starvation.>they are something of a 'support' species for the others. What I'm thinking of is a system where they get resolve bonuses if OTHER species have their needs met, BUT if those other settlers happen to leave the or die, then Bears will take a hit to their resolve.>they have very few complex food requirements, perhaps only one, (porridge is the obvious choice lol), but have the most needs out of all the other races when it comes to services, at a staggering four (this serves as an opposite to the way lizards are)>those four are comfort, education, training, and a new service- music!>bears love music, which they play and listen to in the new service building- the Bear's Den- which provides a different small bonus depending on which species are playing in them that aligns with their race. For example, a harpy in the den would increas global carry capacity by 1, while a fox would increase glade event work speed by a small percentage. These can stack or mix depending on who you place. The "lore" justification for this is that different species provide different types of music. However the catch all service resource would be instruments, which can be crafted in a woodworking building
>>497855234>speaking of resources, since they don't need much complex food, they do enjoy a new raw food resource, honey! Honey can be gathered in either one of the existing camps or a new one, but can be made in the apiary, which is a new building that needs to be placed close to unspent resource nodes like berries or flax (or perhaps another new one, which could be flowers that can be made into dye easily). This means bears can supplement fertile soil buildings by raising bees next to them, which both provide honey, and a slight bonus to the farm growth and harvest>Bears can also have a proficiency in fishing, because there currently isn't one, and they seem suited for it>lastly, as bears are happy to live in caves, and to give them a slight twist on housing, perhaps their specific shelter can be made with stone instead of wood or the building materials, OR if you want to go even more crazy with it, maybe Bears don't have a specific housings building but can actually live in any of the other species specific houses, again, since they play as support (that's way out there, tho, that's like, a crazy idea)>lastly lastly, perhaps serving as an opposite to harpies, maybe they don't need any type of clothing at all (though bears in boots sounds like a fun time)>anyways, my goal with these ideas for the Polar Bears is to make them feel like a full on "support" species that adds to what the others do. Many of the other aspects of the game have their niches carved out already, humans-food, beavers- wood and amber, harpies- cloth, etc. So it would feel nice to have one that can supplement what the others do without having to add too much complexity to an already complex and seemingly full system
>>497855362>Bears are native to the snow covered hills biome, which is the new winter biome they come packaged with>this biome is so cold that the rain has turned to snow, sleet, hail, and whatnot. Collecting rain is much less efficient here, but there are pleanty of natural geyser and hotsprings to counter that. The cold requires heated pipes in most buildings to fight against, but because of the cold, blightrot is much less quick to grow.>as far as resources go, there is pleanty of stone, as well as copper and coal to be found in mines, but exploration is difficult as the frozen trees take longer to cut down and off-road movement speed is slightly reduced. For the major food resources, there is a new variation of the fish ponds- frozen ponds, and plenty of berries all around, but very little fertile soil>the cold also makes clothing much more necessary, which means either the settlers run through them quicker, or they have a resolve penalty for not having any>I will add that, personally, one of my favorites over world modifiers is the frosts, which reduce hearth radius significantly. While I love this modifier, it may be too much of a change to essentially incorporate it natively into the snowy hills, but a slightly modified version of it might work great. I find that I very rarely make multiple hearths, as I like playing with one central hub the most, but it would be very nice to have a biome that forces multiple hearths by design. Perhaps there can be hotsprings in glades around the map, where you can build hearths next to that count as harmony or aestheic decorations, so you reduce the need to build those and have more room for your housing and work>also please find a way to make the snow biome look very good without hurting our eyes, obviously it's easy and obviously to make it white, but that can be very straining on the eyes to stare at for a long time
>>497855475>my goal with these ideas for the snowy biome is to make a place where fuel is ironically easy to come by, but rainpunk is essentially necessary as it isn't enough to keep the fire going, but that "heated" water needs to be pumped into all the workable buildings for the settlers to be safe working thereTo summerize this long and rambling post>Polar Bears as the 7th playable race>they serve as a support role to the others>their lack of complex food and housing needs is balanced by their heafty need for services as well as the well-being of others in the settlement>music and instruments as an added service>honey as an added raw food>Snowy Hills as a winter biome, on which rainpunk is necessary to heat buildings for comfortable work. Pleanty of fuel, not much in the way of food, and exploration is difficult, but damn does it look good

Only tried a bit of Gladius so far since learning a new strategy game while feverish and delirious isn't a good idea and it does seem neat but the research seems really funky. I don't know if it's just because I clicked the babymode tutorial thing but most techs taking roughly 5 turns to research when it also takes 5 turns to make a squad of tactical marines feels weird. Healing also seems kinda brutal for space marines, lotta standing around with your thumb up your ass. Seeming cool so far though>>497938264>>497938582>>497939102Looks very disco
>>497946009Oh yeah, technology is researched VERY quickly, but to compensate for it, you start with very little, and you have to adapt to what the enemy fields. I kinda like it, honestly, because you can go slow and focus on low tier techs to buff your infantry, or you can try to rush vehicles and airships.
>>497946413That's a good point, if the game goes long everyone will have all techs but the main bottleneck is resources and production times which incentivizes you to protect even those tier 1 basic bitch tactical marines because your units are precious. Very well might not be the case with shit like orks but since space marines look like they're the tall faction it'd make sense. And it is nice to value all your units
>>497948435That's also why heroes are interesting in Gladius, because they don't get weaker as they take damage, unlike normal squads. And also I like how Gladius make transports so bloody good, because until you have an apothecary, you cannot reliably heal units. And if you don't know, units only regain health if they haven't moved or done anything this turn, so either you put them on a town or a captured ressource hexagon, or you garrison them in a transport and let them heal slowly. And Space Marines ARE the tall faction, they have only one town.
Yooooooooowho the f let /gsg/ thread diesomeone make a new thread
>>462Fuck off.
>>497949462Game screenshots general was so based some of the best webbies I ever laid eyes on.
>>497948865Do you get extra healing from a town/resource node/transport? I did see that they only regen if they don't move or attack, but it's incredibly slight at like 1.5hp a turn or something. Interesting to hear that about the heroes too, built one and waddling him up but haven't gotten stuck in so I didn't realize they stay at full fighting strength unlike normal units
>>497949980Yes. I think ressource nodes are +50% healing, and towns are +100%. So yeah, you're meant to retreat them to your territory to heal, especially since I think reaction shot cancel the healing, so the enemy can just follow them to prevent them from bandaging.Transports get nothing, but allow you to move your units, so they're excellent.Don't overestimate heroes, thought, they aren't like Dawn of War's heroes, and they can die quickly if targeted by an enemy town or too many anti-infantry units. Well, to a point anyway. An AI Tervigon (Tyranid hero) pretty much stopped my entire army until I got heavy firepower.
EU4 is on sale, wish me luck
>>497951006>off-topicSee you in three days.
>>497950414Ooooh, very nice. Yeah that would definitely make transports even more valuable since healing in the field is slow as hell, and shuttling injured units back and picking up restored units would be great. Although restored units you might be able to deep strike if they're back at town, I think I saw something for that in there
>>497951321>/civ4xg/ - 4x, RTS, citybuilder, and strategyit clearly says strategy there
>>497951556I mean, you'll quickly realize that forests and imperial ruins really slow your units down, and while towns and ruins give a nice ranged damage reduction, any unit currently running around and left in the open will be slaughtered by towns defenses, so transports are excellent for that too: get fresh units in, get wounded units out, and avoid having too many units in the field, because unless the enemy brings in infantry to defend the town, you won't need snipers or scouts taking up a slot.

I do have a major beef with DinaO: there's no real armor system. Age of Empires 2 has melee armor and pierce armour, and some counters. It doesn't work that way in DianO, and armor only means a flat damage reduction, without any real counter weakness.Outside of spearmen doing 3x damage to horsemen, but horsemen are rare.

Figuring out how to stretch every metaphorical dollar to its limit, special resources being well and truly special instead of just slower common resources, being able to slowly grind down a superior enemy by picking away at their exposed bits until they're weak enough for the kill. It's almost like a puzzle in addition to whatever the game is. Tickles my brain meats in a way I like.

why do all these city builders wildly under estimate how much % of the population is needed to feed a group before the industrial era
Anyone need a bandaid? I got some spares.
>>498317559This would depend a lot on where the city builder is set. Also it wouldn't be fun because every change in the game would take ages. Most economies before the industrial revolution and before capitalism (in its earliest form) had growth rates of 0.12% (this is the estimate for western europe). I will have to say these new mechanics are pretty interesting, the map despite being easy, you have to manage the routes where water can take and then switch when the badwater tide comes in
>>498325813Oof, I don't know exactly. The .12% is from contours of the world economy. It's the estimate for western europe between 1000 and 1500. The estimate it gives for eastern europe and asia (including russia) is at 0.04%. But europe started much poorer than a lot of places in asia. By 1500-1820 growth was roughly 0.14% but in the Netherlands/Low countries and UK the average (over this time period) is estimated at 0.28 and 0.27% respectively. By today's standards these growth figures would all be terrible, and it would mean you would need decades if not centuries to really notice a difference.

You basically need good traders unlocked and to go full ambermode and get comfy with rocking high impatience for most of the gameAnyways, I just had a really aestheic settlement that went like this>just finished a forbidden glade world mod settlement in the forsaken woods where I didn't open a single glade>find starving fishmen world event>I am a kind and benevolent Viceroy, so I trade some food with them for artifacts>very next world event right next to it is Sadrath the Wise>he can spawn a world modifier that you choose in exchange for artifacts>use the artifacts I got from the fishmen to spawn a Fishman Ritual Site>settle the marsh right next to it and knock out all of those deeds at once; fishman ritual, no orders, 14 & 18 points through resolve in one gameWas fucking kino, bros

>>497545435pharaoh is peak sierra
AAAAAAHHH PUT THE HIDEOUS CREATURE BACK IN THE TRUCK
>>498409651Makes an interesting question though. The Geneva Convention's purpose is, for the most part, to minimize unnecessary death and suffering in an otherwise brutal situation. No chemical or biological weapons=indiscriminate in their effect and can inflict severe environmental damage and be carried into civilian centers. No false surrendering=prevents troops from preemptively executing *actually* surrendering soldiers out of suspicion or revenge. No disguising yourself as international aid orgs=prevents actual aid workers from getting killed. No setting up false PoW detainment centers=prevents real PoW holdings from getting attacked and their occupants killed (likely inadvertently by their own countrymen). No indiscriminate slaughter of civilians=this should be obvious. What do you do when one of the parties of war is an extraterrestrial invader? They're clearly technologically superior, are completely unknown from ethics to goals, are attacking all of humanity, and are obviously not a signatory of the GCs. In a fight for humanity's survival (or, in the best case scenario, stellar sovereignty), how many rules do you toss out and justify to toss out? Obviously some won't matter, an invading force is unlikely to bring its civilian population along, and who knows what the aliens think about "war crimes" and could end up committing many without a second thought. But do rules still matter with an unknown, non-conforming party, even when some keep you from shooting yourself in the foot?

>>498423232You mean how late in each settlement? It really depends. Sometimes I wont take those at all even at the start depending on what it is and what the other options areAs an example, if you have foxes, frogs, and humans, who all have a need for porridge, which wheat directly can craft, then you should always take that cornerstone regardless of when you are in the settlement. If you have the other 3 species, which don't care for porridge AND you also don't have an easy way to turn it into flour or packs of crops (or a use for flour or packs of crops) that cornerstone is essentially worthless as you'll just end up with 200 useless wheat in your storage. I guess you can sell it? It all depends on what your other choices are, too. It may be useless, but it may be less useless than some other thing or an extra 10 amber you might not needAlso I guess I would refuse other per minute cornerstones if I'm already stable on the thing they provide. I don't need 3 more clay per minute when I already have 200 in the storehouse and my buildings are all built

Just had one of the most scuffed settlements in a while. Pic not rel, different one from the past>costal grove>torrential downpour modifier (no refunds for destroying buildings)>h'mans, fregs, lizhards>best thing I have going for it is the cornerstone which increases resolve by 5 extra if they have training service taken care of>second best thing is I get the woodcutter's prayer cornerstone (plus one to woodcutting but lose all stored fuel on pick-up) TWICE>this means my woodcutters cut THREE, often SIX in once charge, so I'm never out of fuel despite not even having mines>things are going alright but I'm kinda blocked up. Don't have a true way forward as I'm out of blueprints, basically close to starving the whole game, glades are giving me shit, etc. Only real way is to force resolve, but I'm on high prestige where they rise higher and provide less, so it's hard>get a new timed order I've never seen before. Produce 300 wood in camps in 8m. ONLY possible because I had the double woodcutter's prayer>gets me the frog fight club. Alright. Just need training gear now and I'm set>still feeling locked, completely forgot about making tools, which I had access to. Churn those out and send those packages to get close to a win, but impatience is pretty high>pull some cornerstones from the alter that basically save my run from total disaster, as well as get some shitty production going for gear>finally, at the end, I'm at 17.6 rep. I need BARELY any more but resolve will go NO higher from frogs or lizards, let alone humans>hadn't stayed ontop of corruption, so several have died in the storm>i need one final point, which I can get from healing a corrupted drainage mole. I have the materialsAnd here is where I fucked up everything bros>didn't read the working effects of the event>knew it opened the blights immediately.Thought I could take care of them real quick and just burn through time till he's healed>didn't read the second one>spawns 16 blightrot flowers

Except chryssalids of course but we don't talk about them. I could've just opened a different glade and sent a final cache or something man>in a last ditch attempt as I watch the village begin to burn around me, I call in the trader, who is the royal guard that has been training my frogs and lizards via that cornerstone>hope that he has purging fuel or something to help me survive. I can't tank more than 3 deaths.>game decides to throw me a bone>he has 0.5 rep I can buy>holy fuck this guy just saved my life>buy it and win>>this settlement has proven it can sustain itself, are you ready to move on>haha yeah :) it can sustain itself alrightIn my headcanon, what happened was like when the fellowship of the ring encountered the balrog in moria. The village had been trained under the royal guard the entire time but at the end the corrupted molerat appeared and the leader was like "this foe is beyond any of you. In AoE2, is there any reason at all to make knights? Light cavalry is a lot more cheaper, faster to train, and with upgrades, can take down most things, so why ever make expensive heavy cavalry who doesn't even hit that hard, requires gold, and is weak to monks?
>>498635239Knight is arguably the most important or the second most important unit (debatable between crossbows, depends on the skill level) in the game. To answer you specifically, if you make light cav and I make knights I win.
>>498635510At equal number, yeah. But ressources wise, the gold you spent on knights that I saved by making light cavalry, I can invest it in something else, like defenses or whatever. Like archers to snipe your knights while the cavalry is covering them. I just don't get heavy cavalry.

>>498738806Oooh, okay. I'll try to make some paladins next time, just to see if they're as killy as you say, but you're right, they do have mobility.
>>498738954generally the builds in castle age follows from what you have built from feudal. competitive build orders usually involves rushes in feudal with units that your civ is good at. like brits want to do an archer rush, that kinda thingwhat happens in castle age can vary a lot, depending on if you succeeded with the rush and cripple the opponent enough to gain an econ advantagebut if you're playing with bots in single player, whatever goes. extreme AIs are around 1000 elo, and you can cheese the AIs pretty easily
>>498739547I mean, yeah. If the AI reacted to my builds, it'd be threatening, but I feel like the AI in AoE2 DE just pick a build at random, like "this time I'll make spearmen/archer" or "this time I'll make spearmen/skirmishers".
>>498736493I would agree with you but there were too many other things in RT that chapped my ass. Even though I did like the game it really bugged me how Owlcat went from WotR which had some fairly dramatic flavor and fluff changes based on your mythic path (The main story still largely playing out the same but you get sizable chunks of different flavor text, some different scenes, maybe a few different quests, etc) and then RT has 3 main paths that do so little in comparison. Then the actual origins you can pick have one or two lines of fluff in the prologue and then don't come up in the game proper even when they should. And the hidden alignment-locked companions not having dialog when at least one of the chaos companions should be a font of dialog all annoys me more than fucking the fishAll that bitching said I haven't played since they did the big combat overhaul and certainly not since the DLC so I don't know if anything's changed. Like the Pathfinders I'll probably do a replay in a year or two once all the DLC's out. ALSO I'm not the anon that was playing for two months I'm just swooping in here from the shadows
>>498739856the easier AIs are pretty stupid. Hard and up will fight you early with rushes, or will focus econ and fast castle
>>498740458Oh, I see. Harder AI aren't "easy AI but with infinite ressources". Might be fun to try them, even if they'll likely crush me.
