Serana’s relationship to Dragonborn feels really awkwardI get they wanted to make a character that felt more real compared to other followers, but, dragonborn’s dialogue is just odd, as well as Serana’s. It’s overtly squishy and emotional compared to anything else in skyrim.The things you get to say sound like something a teenage boy would say to a girl he had a crush on in high school, and vice versa for Serana. Like she’ll say “I didn’t expect someone to care about how I feel” to a dialogue option that does not merit that kind of response, just out of place and uncomfortableI’ll just take the example of the dialogue with her mother in the soul cairn. When the mother accuses you, your only dialogue option is “serana believes in me, why won’t you?” And then serana later says of you defending you that you’ve done more for her than her mother has in centuries. Keep in mind you have only been with serana for like a couple of in game days, which you do with other characters in different questlines. It just feels forced and awkward.I really wish there was a way you could navigate the dialogue in a way that didn’t have annoying childish romantic undertones.

I played around with it for a bit, and it turns out you need to assign it a hotkey, then just keep blocking/bashing until they're stunned. Attacking works, too. The Empire was very close to decreeing Orsinium as a legal part of the Empire. But it was sacked by Highrock and Hammerfel before that process could be completed. Orcs are valued very highly by the empire as well, orcs are some of the best smiths on Tamriel and their incredible strength and durability is very useful in battle. Orcs wouldn't have any reason to side with the stormcloaks. They are a weaker governing body and they don't respect anyone who isn't a nord. Orcs would get a shit deal if the stormcloaks won the war, and orcs already are struggling as a people.

Most of the orcs who don't live in Strongholds will often join the Imperial Legion to see the world, bring home stories, or bring honor to their Stronghold through combat. Characters like Ghorbash the Iron Hand tells about this story.Orcs would most likely join the Imperial legion, though they will respect and honor the nords for standing up for their beliefs as they would do for Malacath. A matter of how it's presented and if the Orcs feel threatened by either side.

Although it sounds like Orcs side with the empire, I think your character would fit in more with the storm-cloaks, even though they are Nord purists. It sounds like your character wouldn’t have much respect for anyone else (maybe including other orcs) and especially not some cowardly empire that is currently the lap dog for the aldmerri dominion (that’s not what I personally think). The storm cloaks are also more rage filled and power hungry than the more disciplined imperial legion. Serving the emperor gives no clear path to power unless he were to serve as a politician which I doubt he would. But since your characters an idiot he probably wouldn’t be thinking that far ahead. Through out history, with few exceptions (the United States, Cuba etc.) people who lead rebellions are often the first heads on the chopping block in the new regime because they’re trouble makers. So maybe your Orc has no allegiance to the stormcloaks but sees it as a way to secure power by taking out Ulfric. I know he’s an idiot so maybe not, but it would still be a dumb thing to do since no Nord will bow to an Orc and he’d be killed or cast out. Just my 2 cents

The game makes it clear that the guild is on its last legs when the Dragonborn joins. They're failing jobs, Nocturnal has turned on them, Mercer is set up to leave them all broke, none of the major holds' guards respect them apart from Riften thanks to Maven, and even then, the Riften populace is so indifferent to them that they need a new recruit to get shakedown money. Their last remaining ally, Maven, was even getting ready to drop the guild since they couldn't complete the Goldenglow job without the Dragonborn. While it would never happen in game, realistically, the guild will fall apart unless the Dragonborn joins.

So regardless of which race I play, I see no problems finding reason for joining the stormcloaks. But sure I find reasons for joining the empire in some playthroughs as well.

My head canon was that I'd been caught fleeing to Skyrim to avoid charges only to almost end up executed by the empire anyway. Do you ever just say "fuck it" and go full vanilla with the game?I had spent over 7 days on my current playlist and when I started playing on my mage build, I completely dropped it after Bleak Falls Barrow. That was months ago. Over 92 plugins and several of those perfectly merged to please my plugin count. (monkey number go up hoo hoo haa haa?)I decided to go back, check my modlist again recently and I found to be so bloated I started to get rid of some stuff, interface and shit. Basic stuff you know? Nordic UI amongst them.It somehow now stuck some of the modded stuff into my skyrim vanilla too, like literally a headtilt in 1st person and this plus the modded nightmare that was oblivion, I completely have the urge to just uninstall everything and play vanilla.If not just the bare minimum of mods after near a decade playing (2015).

Serana is a bad followerI may get some hate for that... Whatever. So I recently decided to play some Skyrim again and reached Dawnguard quests, and wow is Serana trash! I really didn't notice this as much before but she might actually be the worst DLC follower in the game so far, prob even THE worst! Before the hate, let me explain.I usually run Jzargo bc he's cute and has nice voicelines, and is actually quite a good distraction for my destruction archmage. I decided to try out different followers just for fun. My gripes with Serana (gameplay first):You can't dismiss her during quests. This was annoying asf. Hate that smug line when you politely tell her to part ways.Her battle ai is trash and her damage spells are trash (at least on Legendary). Jzargo has smol damage but he doesn't run up close to line up perfectly with my Ignite and set himself on fire, the cat boy actually fights at range and pulls aggro like a champ. She however, she gets in the way too much even compared to melee followers. Prob bc of weird vampire suck range? She doesn't even use her weapon.She got the single worst companion spell that is not removable by console, the one that reanimates corpses and leaves ash piles everywhere. Why didn't they give her one of dlc conjuration spells, like conjure Mistman or idk?She is bugged. The only companion that constantly freezes with vampiric drain out. Thank god I play on PC.She has annoying idle "I want to rub my body all over you" behaviour. Casually runs in front of me and sends that bottle I have been training telekinesis on flying. No other companion does that.

Compared to other DLC follower, the miner guy mind-controlled by dragon priest, Ralis, she feels kinda bland, and that she is always force-fed to you as companion doesn't help. Ralis may be an ahole, but he actually got personality and when (IF - you actually have a choice there, lol) you forgive him, his attitude to you does change a lot and he really feels both frustrated and frightened for what he had done, and thankful to you for letting him live. Also he is a powerhouse with fire immunity (enchanted boots with fire resistance) so my Ignite doesn't harm him, and is actually useful in combat and can solo minibosses if you decide to give him good weapons. Serana is just kinda meh - even if you treat her like trash, she still believes you and adores you, which is kinda weird. Rant over. (Is there occasionnaly some mod to "fix" her? Or a mod for a nice vampire follower)

She raises literally the first thing to die so in a room full of high level enemies and a skeever she is going to blow her load all over the skeever and raise it.The whole her getting “stuck” in her drain animation is why I choose to take her on as few missions as I have to and why I usually power through the main part of the dawnguard dlc which really makes it grindy.She complains about caves, complains about the sun, complains about how people react around her… all she does is complain and her mother is even worse with her dialogue. “Here to stop Harkon” oh that’s dumb he can’t be stopped… literally only option is to say maybe Serana should die which she freaks out about but moves the quest along.
My only issue with her is when she attacks other followers. I had to send one of my Dawnguard companions away because they kept trying to fight each other to the death, but she also does it with people who aren’t even vampire hunters…like Uthgerd, Erandur, even Katria. And it’s always Serana who starts it! I like to travel around with a squad but she can’t seem to get along with anyone except the Dragonborn. In a way though it adds some spice because you never know when a battle will break out within your own ranks…

I melee and I usually get impaled with Ive Spikes during my Kill Cams (never during actual combat where I take damage) and am impervious to damage. If she takes a hit while you’re blasting the enemy; so what? She’s immortal. AoE and spread attacks hit everyone anyway.

Like, yeah, they are all powerful mages, but as the strongest entities of the entire Dragon Cult they lack one crucial ability for me:Shouts.It feels just wrong that after you reach level ~50 almost every random draugr can shout at you (with shorter cooldowns than Dragonborn at that) and some of them wields some kind of magic as well, and Masked Priests are... Welp. They just exist.For me, they, as the pinnacle of the cult, should be at the very least as proficient in shouts as Legendary Dragons, with them being capable of using 3+ shouts corresponding to their masks power or priest type.
