They both discover that they actually prefer normal healthy relationships once they get a chance to try one. They're actually pretty similar if you put everything in broad strokes like this. The difference is that Minthara continues in this manner, while John felt it was a good idea to suddenly throw a bunch of contradictory stuff into Shart's story.
