This past couple weeks, I've been doing all the "Kill X PMC's with ___ gun" quests that I like to put off until I have a decent nestegg. Setup wasn't bad. Punisher was still a bitch. And now SBIH on Shoreline alone took a couple million. I swear half the fucking game is using bolt-actions. (nttawt, it's just the quantity)

It's so fucking ridiculous how broken the audio is after 8 fucking years of this game. Still the only things you can rely on are surface materials and memorizing all the different materials in different places. Otherwise you just can't tell if someone is right next to you, above you or below you.

The amount of times my brain has been like "The dude is in the room right next to you healing!" only to rush there and notice that the dude was actually 1-3 floors above or below me and I just blew my cover for nothing.

You're doing something seriously wrong dude, there's something you're not getting about the current flow of maps and your timing of where you should and shouldn't be. Head-to-head tarkov pvp gunfights are a bullshit crapshoot, but when it comes to just surviving raids and completing the more mundane tasks there is 100% a way to reliably do that. Avoiding pvp can absolutely be done, there's a repeatable method to it, and it doesn't involve sitting in a bush for 30 minutes either.

I think your problem is that the flow of maps and player habits have changed a lot since your poopsock days. Maybe take things slow again and re-learn the maps

Personally I disagree with the notion that you should learn from a sherpa or something, to me there's too much to learn all at once and everyone has an aptitude to learn things in different orders. Sherpas may be inclined to just infodump on you which can be a bad time. I learned the game playing solo but asking lots of questions in this general. newbro here, can anyone explain to me what armor dmg is, is it the % dmg it does to armor if the bullet doesnt pen?

It's uh...complicated to put it lightly. Basically look at the bullet "penetration" value and for every factor of 10 it has, that's the level of armor that it will reliably penetrate (ie 30pen=class 3 armor). No need to get too caught up in the math of all the other ballistics in armor penetration, just know that if you're using an automatic weapon and your ammo has above 30 penetration you're in a decent position to spray heads. The ideal pen value is above 40, because this means you will definitely penetrate a class 4 helmet which is what basically everyone wears. On some smaller calibers this is hard to achieve though so keep that in mind.

It's quick and dirty advice but when you're starting out and wondering what "good ammo" is, here's a decent rule of thumb:
Automatic weapons: Above 30pen
Semi-auto weapons and high caliber: Above 40pen

The last two paragraphs in this section from the wiki you linked should help you out, but in reality I think most players focus on the penetration value of the round rather than the armor damage % value. I may be wrong but the % value might be bugged to not work as intended, or it may get hugely reduced by soft armor (intentionally).

This is indeed 100 % "it". I was good at the game like 2-3 years back, have only played a little every now and then. Last time I hit Kappa and level 60 was like 3 years ago. It just feels so strange, since I feel like the meta and maps haven't changed THAT much, but I may indeed be terribly wrong here. I'm indeed cruising at 0 rubles all the time while being level 29. Sometimes I strike big and survive, which shoots up my stash to 2 million rubles or similar, then immediately sink back to 0 rubles by using good gear. One thing's for sure: I'm way too pvp driven and still take as many risks as I took back when my account had 100s of millions of rubles to burn through.

I've lost my edge, bros.

BSG isn't going to make a bunch of outfits for season pass, at most 2 per season I imagine, and weapon skins would be a nightmare to implement in this game, there are way to many weapon mods to take into account, some that completely change the look of the gun. And if someone kills you and takes your gun, do they keep your skin? Does it vanish after the raid?
They could also do "armor skins" and "rig skins", but I don't think anyone would care for that.

Old Factory wasn't like this. The first 2-3 minutes were utter fucking chaos and constant action. You could rush office and there'd be the whole fucking lobby there blowing eachother up.

Even the slowest pace crouching or walking makes so much noise that someone with the best actives can hear you through walls, ceilings/floors like 10 meters away. No point in even trying to move. Kinda stupid, since with this change they just straight up removed one of the ways to play in this game.

Eh, you can still get away with it, I've seen videos of footstep audio being tested, crouch walking at the lowest speed is audible only up to 12 meters iirc, and even in that range it's still relatively quiet and can get muffled by background noise on maps or distant gunshots.
I still think slowest speed crouch walking should be silent.

I am on that grind right now. I believe it's one of the hardest items in gaming history to acquire. You have to face cheaters, devs, poopsocks, and squads as a solo. It's going to be one of my greater gaming achievements
