Shadow Generations was clearly made by a significantly more confident and competent dev team, because holy crap is the presentation in this game such a significant improvement and its the best looking game we've had since Unleashed. As weird as it is at times, it is easily the most fleshed out and extensively wouldbuilded continuity out of all of them. Due to being in a different medium than the games it was able to really focus on storytelling, although its based off of SatAM instead of the games.It was very inconsistent in quality from let's say post Adventure arc to 159 with plenty of good stories and plenty of mediocre and bad ones. Once Ian steps in in issue 160, and Yardley starts penciling most issues, it increases in quality and becomes consistent. After that it is balance of SatAM and original Archie elements as well as focus on games aspects too. It becomes less like a soap opera and more like an action comic book. The art becomes more game accurate. The arcs become faster paced and more eventful. It had a balance of drama action and humor. If you just saw the out of context screenshots you're just seeing the wors/funniest moments. There are plenty of times where it shines.
