Yet another autism project. After hours of shitty hacked together networking code, I've got a system for synced bleeding. The ultimate goal is to have a realistic medical system. Why? I haven't seen it in a VR game yet AFAIK. Even the tatical shooters don't go full autism. Usually its just a wrap around the arm with a bandage, but irl that won't do shit against a gun wound. And if its a head, chest or neck wound, theres not a lot that can be done as far as basics. I'm sure someone whos actually a medic will chime in. Well now its time to work on the packing, tourniquets and chest seals.

Quest exclusive that's like 7 bucks.Remember LOW-FI, the totally not Blade Runner game that is probably never getting finished and has no actual game in it? Well Metacity Patrol is that with actual game and more soul than LOW-FI ever had. You cruise around comfy cyberpunk city in your aircar and when on duty you get missions from HQ that range from finding and chasing synths (possibly armed) in the streets, car chases in the skies, scanning building for criminal activity, collecting evidence and even doing Voigt-Kampff test with arrested suspects, complete with the eye closeup scan.Streets are bustling with NPCs, there are upgrade stations to buy better parts for your gun, car, implants and even purchaseable appartments and random roleplay stuff like food, cigarettes and several types of glowing umbrellas.As you climb the police ranks and get more upgrades you get more varied missions and better payouts across more of the game's locations which are plenty more than LOW-FI and usually bigger. Also there's obligatory cinema playing Metropolis, night club with dancing crowd and several radio stations.It's obviously lowpoly but in a good way, the NPCs and simple environments give strong Deus Ex vibe and overall the game is incredibly comfy in the classic Blade Runner way. Just cruising around, walking down the streets, smoking and sipping beer or racing on one of the sky tracks is more fun than anything LOW-FI ever did. It gets regular updates every quarter or so and there's enough sandbox gameplay in there to keep you occupied for that long. How solo dev with help from few volunteers managed to make something this polished and comfy is a miracle. It also has no real bugs or glaring technical issues aside from some minor culling hiccups in some areas.TL;DR - Blade Runner VR, what LOW-FI was supposed to be but for fraction of price and tons more soul

I personally use vscode with the unity and c# extensions and while it's a little more janky to setup (have to do some stuff in unity itself with the vscode support package) it also works fine and arguably more generally useful to learn than VS; also you can pick your poison of AI coding assistant extensions, which are very useful and generally give you free access to claude 3.5, which does actually know unity and the vrchat udon sdk. Jetbrains Rider is now free for non-commercial stuff and supposedly really good for unity dev, if you want to try it. I did use intellij a lot when I had to wage and it is a very good IDE for heavy lifting. For the scale of most udonsharp projects it is likely overkill though; the heavy refactoring stuff will never be useful, and using the regular debugger with udonsharp can be misleading.

Autism update. I've done some research on StopTheBleed. The first method of that is just compressing the wound with your hand. Hi /vrg/,Been a while since I've worked on a vr-related project, but I felt inspired recently after reading the ALOHA 2 publications. I put together a 6 dof serial link manipulator (robot arm) and rigged it up for teleoperation over vrchat. Using a janky combination of IK and resolved-rate motion control, other people can control the end effector position of the arm irl by moving a prop in my vrchat world. See pic related for a demo video, which uses passthrough and my irl-aligned vrc world to overlay a remote operator and their movement onto my room. Latency is reduced by the fact that I'm scraping the prop positions locally, so it winds up being mostly aligned with what I see on my side in VR. There is some delay due to hardware constraints, but not as much as you'd expect given that the operator in the demo is on the other side of the world. The drawback is that the system currently doesn't have any operator feedback, so the controller is pretty much flying blind besides my verbal instructions. Robotics isn't a domain that I have much experience in. Interacting with the physical world brings a whole slew of complications which can be frustrating at times, but there is something satisfying about making things that actually move instead of just being lights on a screen. If you're using a higher resolution headset you might want the extra VRAM; but then again you'll probably want more GPU horsepower instead because pixel pushing is hard.
