I have a friend who wanted to make a game, he was obsessed with it.
He asked his teenage daughter to test a prototype and she said it was kinda boring. He didn't get the message and spent 18 more months on the game. He even got a 2 year lease on a dedicated server cluster to accommodate all the players he was expecting. He was well off and had tons of savings so he didn't care and would defend his game aggressively from anybody who pointed out its flaws to the point no one was willing to give him honest feedback.
The game flopped horribly, it had a15 concurrent player peak, something like that. But what blew me away is he just shrugged and went on to do something else not related to games.
This was in 2006 when MMOs were blowing up.

i average maybe 50 to 60 hours a month lately. though the monthly average over the lifetime of the current game is probably around 20 hours monthly. it's shameful considering i don't even have a job. i'd be satisfied if it was at least 100 hours. yes i know a work week has 40 hours which means ~160 hours monthly to be similar to a fulltime job's work hours. reasonably speaking, it's unlikely for me to actually get that much in.

if i was able to pull off 100 hours per month, that'd be 1200 hours yearly, 2400 hours every 2 years. my current game has been in development for far longer than 2 years and yet i've put maybe 1200 hours into it. i'd have finished it over 2 or 3 years ago if i was actually able to pull off 100 hours monthly.

parce, what crap, what I needed to learn was not so much mathematics, it was to learn some linear algebra stuff like dot, cross product, some fag functions like step, smoothstep, pow, sqrtinverse, exp, exp2, log, log2, the boolean operations stuff like equal, not equal that don't use the normal programming syntax, and to learn the OpenGL views stuff.

It's the same shit I used all this time, only with a diferent syntax.

All of them would work with what I want to put in in terms of h content, its mostly standing image shit and cut-ins
I'm drawing all the art myself, I can do a tiny bit of pixelart for a sidescrolling character or topdown for the puzzle thing but thats only functional, the main stuff will just be drawn.

The problem with rpgmaker is that id have to tie values and shit to say, getting hit with certain attacks to change states, and I dont know how to make scripts interact with that shit, so I'd rather just go from scratch rather than trying to mod shit into rpgmaker.

Imo try with big steps to find a good balance. I still need to test your game, but a human has a great reaction time if he gets to .30s. If you have a quarter of a second of inv, and an enemy is pushy enough, you can be hit 2 times before you react to the first.
Also consider why are u devvin in that way, most nes tributes are not so punishing because (today we know) it was bad design to water down a short game. I don't wanna say your choice is downright bad also because I myself have a lives system and most ppl whined about it because it's outdated.
Tldr, do what you want, but if you have a super short inv because your game is very short and you need 2h of play to avoid refunds... don't be a faggot and dev more levels

I made the game hard because I like it that way I don't think games are meant to be perceived challenges that are actually piss easy. I think hard games are supposed to be hard to force players to meaningfully analyze their systems and mechanics, and take advantage of them to succeed. I don't think YANCY is a hard as nails dark souls esque murderthon death march. I was just surprised to find about 1/3rd of players really couldn't stand how easy it is to take damage multiple times in a short period. I've already decided to change it.

A full second would not only make the game easier for obvious reasons, it would also slow the pace of the game down tremendously. Getting hit would feel awful, and it would make it easier to trade hits. I'd have to increase the damage of enemy attacks to compensate, making the game more volatile for people who are actually getting hit less.

My goal has never been mass appeal. There's no way it'll ever be beloved by hundreds of thousands of people. The game exists for the people who will like it, and making it too easy would compromise that raw, unfiltered open world adventure that people like it for.

I switched to Gelbooru because of that. They also don't hide loli content, you just go to options and enable "Display all site content" without needing an account.

1. Some are 3D and can get away with low quality 3D art except I've barely tried 3D art at all

It will run at max power even in an empty scene if you don't limit it. That's how GPUs work. If you don't want it to run so fast you have to limit your FPS. Luckily more games have started giving you that option so you don't have to fiddle with external software to do it.

There's easy solutions to them but to a noob they might not be obvious. I haven't come across a stuttering Unity game in a while but it used to be common a few years back. Nothing about wave function collapse as an algorithm prevents closed off inaccessible rooms from forming, each tile only cares that it's neighbours are valid, not that the resulting large-scale structure makes any kind of sense or that all areas are accessible. The best Harvest Moon game is Friends of Mineral Town, a remake of Back to Nature for the GBA. The first release of HMDS was notoriously buggy as fucking fuck. You can make a mostly if not exclusively visually scripted game in Unreal. It wouldn't be as efficient as using C++ but it is absolutely possible if it is singleplayer only. Obviously actually learning some real coding is always good anyway.

Played a few HM as a kid. Played stardew as an adult. There's a few things about these farm games that always bothered me, namely feeling rushed to do everything in the limited time of each day and the fact that you can completely ignore the cooking mechanics without missing out on anything. No, unproject is correct. It gives you the screen space value, which is what you're wanting, although the AABB.position and end aren't exactly the right values you want (but close enough).
