It might be easier to copy assets folder from your VRC avatar's unity project. From that point, all you need to do is to remove all of the vrchat scripts, drop bonelab script on it, adjust eye height/body shape if needed, and change every material to use one of kosher SLZ shaders. Eh, I'd say you'll start running it at 20% strength anyway once honeymoon period of "wow it's so strong so cool" fades away. Running your wheel at high power is not great, it tires you out, maybe it even makes precise handling more difficult. But stronger base should also be faster, so there's a benefit, and if you won't like it strong, you can run stronger base at lower gain.

I didn't use either though, so that's purely theoretical. Why wouldn't you just go straight for R5? Are there any known downsides? Or just price?

Check your local used prices, and you might come to realize that those things don't drop in value all that much. Maybe you'll find some comfort in knowing that if you won't like it, you'll sell it with very little loss, though that depends on your local market - no idea where are you from and what's the situation around you.

I'd imagine R3 will be plenty nice. I assume you're not going for full autism racing sim with a dedicated seat, and in that case, sitting on an office chair in sub-optimal position will be much more bearable with a weaker wheel anyway. One way or another, I doubt any direct drive wheel will disappoint you, or give you an underwhelming experience for a first-timer. Then again, more is more.

but, again, it's all theoretical from my side, so google a whole lot for opinions and reviews. I'm hard into simfagging and I even got to drive in one of those meme hydraulic sims with cockpit that moves around, but my personal hardware is an old half-broken normie wheel that I never bothered to change because I'm too used to it

I'm planning on upgrading sometime soon, but I've been using my G29 for years. There's only one anon I know of here that even has a DD wheel.
If you got super into sims or money wasn't much of a factor for you, I could see more of a pull to upgrade, but I don't think it's a problem for most people.
That being said, if you don't mind spending the extra money, DD is definitely going to be better.

I've been here from the start and I have three acquaintances and zero friends. I haven't seen any of those in VR in multiple years and only exchange occasional messages with them at this point. One hasn't used it at all since 2019. I've never had anything more than fleeting interactions with anyone. I still spend a few hours a week in VR but the people I am around clearly regard me as a visitor, not part of their group and we mutually know almost nothing about each other. On some level I think this is mutually enforced without either side knowing how or why. Years of looking for answers and trying to change myself made no difference at all. I accepted I will never understand it and no-one can offer useful advice. Some people will just have a completely different experience to others with no-one being able to explain why. In such cases I think it is better to focus on what you can do, rather than what you cannot.

I've never had a great experience streaming VR, but it has always been acceptable.
Trying Steamlink made it clear something was very wrong, as it was straight up unusable.
After ruling out any wifi or router problems, it turns out my PC just shits itself during streaming, with pings on all network interfaces spiking to up to 1000ms exclusively when streaming VR, regardless of whether or not the interface is the one used for streaming.
I've updated everything a million times in the past, so after confirming other systems on the network were perfectly fine I decided to nuke everything and do a clean install. Win11 is unavoidable so figured I'd make the jump to that while I was it it.
Clean install fixed nothing, but installing the latest AMD chipset drivers ( v6.05.16.221 ) instantly resolved the issues, and I now everything is silky smooth.
If anything I'm amazed Airlink and VD managed to work as well as they did; Steamlink was probably shitting itself because it assumes perfect network conditions to minimize latency.

No real useful changenots for chipset drivers, and could have happened anytime in the past year, but streamed VR is finally smooth.

I'm sure routing audio to it will be fun with the flip up design and that the hinge will definitely outlast drunken hijinks.
Resolution is too high to use without foveation for today's GPUs and probably the next few generations of GPUs if we're being honest.

kinda got the "want-to-buy" itch right now and was looking at trackers.
I don't have anything that works with lighthouse ecosystem, so I guess if I got them, it would open the door to bigscreen beyond or possibly some other headsets, but it seems like lighthouses are on the way out.

Not soon I think. The Zucc AR glasses are in their earliest stages, more to get them in the hands of developers than anything else. VR is currently less than 1% of the gaming market overall and each quest headset is sold at a loss, but it's also been the fastest growing market sector of gaming (percentage-wise) over the past 5 years, so for future devices being able to bundle VR and AR capabilities together would be a big value-add. I do expect the eventual Quest 4 to have better pass-through cameras than the Quest 3 to better support AR. As much as people hate dealing with questies in VRC, I think they will be a really good thing for VR as a whole in 5 to 10 years.

AR as a platform has tremendous potential for a lot of interesting things, both in gaming and in more normie-focused applications, and yet nothing of note exists yet. It will be a while before it does I think.

I recently replaced my trackers cause the old ones got old, and another anon encouraged me to try using one of my old trackers as a chest tracker. I managed to coax one of the old ones back to life.
I think it gives a bit more range of motion on the hips as well as the chest.

Not sure what exactly is your problem, but let's see:
-Grab carefully and make sure hand gets stuck in place before letting other one go
-Use thumbstick to adjust your crouch when holding something, for example when you want to climb up on the ledge, use right thumbstick down to crouch down so your legs get on arms level
-Don't ram hand into the wall, just place it on a surface and grab
-Sometimes you can just plain jump on top of something even if your jump height is less than enough: when you crouch and stand up fast in real life, your boner avatar gets extra momentum and jumps taller

But I've no idea what exactly is your issue, hand glitches sound like something I didn't experience. Is it a problem with every avatar, or maybe your specific personal avatar is borked in some way?

it came with a table clamp, although if it's a really flimsy table it's going to shake the fuck out of it. (depends on the game I suppose, the ffb for dirt rally 2 gets a little vibrate-y at times)
I love the wheel and motor. pedals are ok. I put the extra doodad moza sells into the brake and added a clutch but they were still kinda eh. I found some 3d printed mods/springs and a loadcell to add to them and now I like em pretty good.

that being said, if you don't have something, anything to bolt the pedals to. a 2x4 that extends and presses up against the wall, or a heavy box or something, DO NOT get the extended load doodad as you will not be able to press your brake without the pedals sliding or flipping over.
I tried to make a little tray that holds the pedals and had a little hook to hold the wheel of my chair but I eventually gave up and built a whole frame I attached a racing seat I found on craigslist to.

the wheel/motor/software all work good for me but this is really my first foray into simracing

No, the point of the form was to give your partner some personal info, references or suggestions for gifts to make it easier for them to make something appropriate. Pairing is by timezone and it's not as if you're listing your friendslist in the form so how exactly would santa know who you know?

You've got a month to do this, that leaves plenty of time at the start to gather information. Stalk them, as mutual friends, vague-post in the thread whatever works for you.
