Glad my rant generated a little discussion.Regarding Baldur's Gate: for me, the red flags started right with 2, where you could no longer find new locations organically, you had to be told about them by an NPC. I thought that was most insanely idiotic thing imaginable after how good the exploration was in Baldur's Gate and Arcanum, but it just never got better. OwlCat and whoever makes Pillars kept the BG2 model, and introduced the fucking storybook trash, and Larian just made 1 quarter of their games take place on a single map.No one born after 2000 has even a 1% chance of enjoying BGToSC, the engine is too archaic. EE and Tutu did BG1 a huge favor by making it run on 2's engine.

Holy shit I'm out of ideas on how to approach that maid of honor fight on JanusEvery single enemy has like 200 hp, daemonettes spawning every round that close and rip through Heinrix/Abelard. Every enemy's burst fire is doing 20+ damage per shot that drops whoever they're targetingI close to melee and the maid is a better fighter than Abelard. I stick at range and try to snipe with my RT (Operative/BH) and Yri with Cass to provide more turns and she's behind a large wall I can't targetI can't stay back and survive a long battle with her constantly spawning in 200 hp daemonettes while I have no cover in the back room and nobody's weak enough that I can burst single charactersI think I might actually get filtered and forced to go down from Unfair

I have been thinking I really like game stories that feel like you're really investigating a conspiracy of some kind that each chapter opens up giving you more and more freedom. It helps to pace the story out and doesn't dump all the lore on you at once. Games like The Witcher I, rogue trader do this very well I think for pacing.. Until Act IV. Its also act IV where the game does a 360 and throws you into an unfamiliar setting and is like "Survive" like in the Witcher when you get teleported into bfe peasant ville looking for a small child and once you find him and come back the entire city is on fire. Or in Rogue Trader where you get molested an entire chapter.
