just when i was thinking of starting a new run, this genie appears

my colony plan was fairy lolis playing in a meadow with big flowers and big mushrooms

my first mistake was underestimating how toxic looking the mushroom ware. all this purple clashes with what i had in mind.
my second mistake was starting with just one colonist. i thought that if i can't start with fairies i can at least make it so i only have 1 normal pawn. in practice, to deal with the various necesseties the rim throw at me, i ended up recruiting more and more human pawns, and it compeltly ruins the mood.
it isn't a bad colony and it gave me oppurtinity to debug bep faces without despairing.

next colony will have
a. idealyc meadows + vanilla forest (tough would be funny to put them inside ocular forest as a 'secret safe heaven of fairies'
b. either some big and small fantasy races, like a halfling, or maybe the loli race from lolium. at any rate ill go for standard start so i won't need to recruit random strangers because my story teller wants me to research machining in 10 days.

this colony will be on hold but ill probably forget about it and delete it.

Is the nutrition just the one projected on the sign post or actual stuff like haygrass/meals? The sign post just tells you what the area can support but the plants still have to be grown before animals can eat them.

Nisse- almost too small. +animals, medical, plants, -craft, mining, cons
loli - is just loli. doesn't even count for small genes. basicly small baseliner.
dvegner - ok size but everyone has beards. girls too. +craft, mine, cons, -plants
svaralf- ugly elfs. +con mine craft art - soc med plants
redcap- ugly violent gnome. +melee, art -shoot con mine soc

why do so many small races of the big and small are also ugly. what does the big and small creator has against small people.

Here is my wrong opinion. Rimworld is a colony management game, not sim, made with madlibs-esque intent. Ribaorld is purposefully video game-y to try to engage the player. I don't care about your opinions on how well that is done. That is obviously the intent behind stuff like water mech raids though. The game 'generates' situations for you to use as the building blocks to your story. It isn't a writer. It is a generator. The game could do better on the video gamey end of things for sure, but I really don't want this game to be dwarf fortress. I would just play that if I wanted that. Someday... maybe

I guess I should do some testing to confirm by spamming super weak spacer raids and call it a pass as soon as I spot low/awful quality biocoded armor (with the biocoded apparel mod, because weapons seem to have a static quality that's defined by the pawnkind with their available budget only determining if they can afford a charge rifle instead of, say, a revolver)

i'm making my assumption with that in mind, legendary was just an exaggeration. you aren't going to be seeing high tier weapons let alone ones with higher quality until you hit higher raids point caps though because weapons are also restricted by pawnkinds and the stronger ones won't appear until you have enough raid points

I haven't had many issues with simple sidearms. Only jank I've hit is when I have them recruited and select for them to switch they have to come to a complete stop and have no task to do before switching. That and when completely switching weapon sets sometimes it doesn't clear out the option for that weapon so the pawn gets in a loop of trying to grab it then put it away to adhere to the load out selected for them, just right click the icon in the box till it's gone and everything's good. Otherwise it's saved more than one of my colonists when shit hit the fan because instead of just slapping an enemy with their gun they pulled out an actual melee weapon.

I used to use simple sidearms but I switched to Pocket Sand, ironically despite having "simple" in the name it adds a bunch of extra features like pawns remembering dropped weapons and automatically switching weapons depending on range. In practice the former doesn't fucking do anything and the latter just means your pawns will aggressively switch weapons over and over and over ad nauseum when spotting raiders, so you'll probably have one weapon forced anyway, Pocket Sand skips all of that shit.
Also if you're getting a sidearm mod get holsters too

I have seen that before actually, about the only time I can see them trying to do it. My solution is just to have them forget about the weapon and have someone else haul it away until they recover. Of course this defeats the point of the feature in the first place since I'm going to be micro managing dropped weapons anyway in case my idiot pawn forgets (or it's automatically set as forbidden) or the crippled and dying pawn just can't bear to be away from his revolver (Awful 32%)

what? i don't even bother using vents and i never have problems with temps, you only need the occasional heater and cooler here and there. sounds like you've been babied with mountains, do what anon said and lower the difficulty and play on open field. and a simple tip for drop pod raids, they have a good chance of appearing by the first trade beacon you make, and if it's inside your base if it's near the outside sometimes half the raid will end up outside as well

Less numbers and better armed is easier to manage (something I have more fun with) than more numbers, but poorly armed. Plus they are tanky even if poorly armed. Fuckers basically have to be killed to go down it felt like. The Yttakin I ran into, while armed, in this run went down relatively 'normal'ish. Piggers annoy me because explosives, but at least grenades aren't that bad to manage at reasonable raider numbers. I guess I just dislike the horde shit with raids after a certain wealth point

Just did the amorphous boss from the ancient amorphous threat mod, but how are you normally supposed to fight this thing? I barely do any damage to it and it has 500hp/day regen. The baby has 0.04 food capacity right now, and it decreases 1% a second. The pawn fills the baby at 2-3% a second while breastfeeding. The pawn ends up feeding the baby for half the day, gets a minute break, then breastfeeds again. Oddly enough too, the pawn never loses milk fullness, it stays at 100% (seems like part of the bug too.)

Anyone have any opinions on armor calculations between Vanilla Combat Reloaded and Yayo? I was going with VCR, but after seeing how many issues it causes with armor I'm trying to find an alternative armor calculation mod.

The mod is geological landforms. It adds some cheese (imo), but the river confluence is stellar (and should have been there already [I have autism]). With that mod every stream/river confluence will generate something like this, and the source of a stream is usually a spring or small lake. Also worth checking river bends - I have seen some pretty spectacular huge rivers bending around a giant 'mountain' that would make for a fascinating starter for a base.

I've been running both for a long time but haven't tried enabling VCR's armor calculation because I absolutely don't want situations where a given pawn will never ever be able to kill another pawn, which yayo can also create but only with crazy natural armor values
I'd love some sort of hybrid of vanilla and yayo's combat where the latter only applies its algorithm to worn armor since its durability will wear out at some point

I try my best to make them uniform enough to be at least tolerable but I'm already used to it. Sometimes I have a mod that I can only see in-game after several years due to it being late game and then it clashes like crazy with my current colony but it's a waste to get rid of it so I just live with it until I'm done with the playthrough

How do you get people to take care of the colony babies, feed them, etc? I have two babies in the colony, one was born to colonist parents, the other one is an orphan hatched from an egg laid by a saurian raider. The baseliner kid gets fed automatically by its mom, but nobody feeds or plays with the lizard kid unless I force them. I expected the mom of the other kid to nurse the lizard since she is already lactating, but no such luck.

I only have about 60 mods and most are cosmetic, so I don’t know if a conflict is causing this or could it be just a problem with the saurians mod since the kid is an orphan that hatched from a raider’s egg. I didn’t get a popup as you normally do when children are born, so maybe the game is considering him a “wild pawn.” Yet his portrait does appear at the top of the screen with the other colonists. So fucking weird and annoying, and it’s making me sad to see them ignoring the crying baby who is starved and recreation deprived, but I don’t want to have to micro these activities until it’s three. Any ideas?
