I'm surprised Cavern of Remembrance isn't canon because it doesn't really contradict anything and the entrance getting blown open appears in a cutscene. I guess because it exists purely for gameplay purposes but it feels like with the Garden of Assemblage there was some thought put into why it's there, like Vexen was doing replica research. And the data Garden of Assemblage is canon thanks to Limit Cut so shouldn't that make the real one canon?

I wonder wtf is up with Mirage Arena though. I know in development it was going to have some story content because Laguna Loire would've been there but when they cut him they didn't bother. Maybe the idea was he'd built the place to hold fights.

Maybe the Laguna story would've tied in with this? If they're even related in the KH universe, you can't take stuff like that for granted. Cloud being in BBS early on could've meant they were going to give some backstory for him with Zack and they removed all that. But again Tidus is a kid on Destiny Islands and Yuna's a fairy in KH so they might not have been connected at all.

Zack actually living in Olympus though reminds me of what anon was saying about Larxene in Enchanted Dominion last thread. Not sure if he was born there or whether he ended up there somehow. We'll probably never get answers because they basically dropped Final Fantasy characters from the series.

Fan outcry reached Nomura and he put them back in Remind. He seems to be oddly out of touch with what fans are excited for, but he gets it now so I'm feeling somewhat confident the subplot with Cloud/Tifa/Sephiroth/Zack will get wrapped up in the next game. And with FF7 getting remade it's the perfect time to use the characters again in KH.

I think there's a chance with the FFVII cast because like you said the VIIR trilogy will be over soon and they'll be available for if not KH4 then KH5. And for the series conclusion I feel like they would bring a lot of Final Fantasy characters back even if they're just cameo tier. You can't not have Leon and co there at the end when they were that at the beginning.

Plus they've made it a thing that they're in all three numbered games so far (even if the last one was just as DLC) so they might want to break that tradition. Or the team won't want to. Nomura seems less bothered about using the FF characters, maybe because he's worked with them so much already, but the other devs are younger and bigger fans of them I think. They fought for them to be in KH3.

More FF8 in things in KH would have been nice cause it seems overshadowed by FF7. (Although what FF isnt? But being right after 7 was a tough act to follow and made people have really strong feelings against it.) It would have been interesting to have seen how much they adapted FF8s story of Laguna and Squall, but it seems really depressing because its possible Laguna just doesn't know Leon exists still but instead of fucking off to Esther he fucked off to a magical happy cartoony colosseum. And it would have been weird that the first parent we saw in KH wasnt an OC character.

But with every FF cameo their stories are always more in depth and better cause they have a whole ass game for it. Half the time relations aren't even in tact. So it never bothered me much despite enjoying their cameos a lot. Olympus cameos were always the best anyways.

FFVII Final R is definitely delaying KHIV. It's the final big project, and Nomura has to make it special because not only is it the Finale, Nomura is going to retire soon, which is why he talked about getting new writers who worked on Neo TWEWY for KH.

They were vague about Cloud's origins in the first game up until the end so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that Laguna would've been from Hollow Bastion too. Considering Mirage Arena was just coliseum he would've had to have come from elsewhere. But yeah a father son relationship would've been something new for the series. We've been getting more into familial relations recently with the sibling characters and then a glimpse of Xehanort's mother. I wonder if Yozora will have a father in a high position or if they'll just use Luxord as his paternal figure like Eraqus was for Terra and Aqua.

Namine feels a little intentional because the whole point of the story is she's inserting herself into Sora and Riku's lives when we know she wasn't there before. Xion was like Namine's thing played straight because there's no reference to her before Days even in 2FM, she's the 14th member of Org 13 and to a newcomer she does kind of shoehorn herself into the already established Roxas and Axel friendship. I don't dislike Xion but they didn't do the best job integrating her into the series. And you can say "well they forgot about her" but Axel was getting visions of her at the start of KH3 so there's not really an excuse for her not being teased at all in 2FM like the BBS trio were. I'm guessing they just hadn't come up with Xion yet when they were doing 2FM. Maybe this was part of the reason why Nomura included Days in 1.5 and keeps placing it before KH2 in the collections even though it's not chronological, makes it feel less retroactive. Bit of a George Lucas special edition situation.

Do you think Kingdom Hearts originally had at least two episodes for every world planned like in KH2?
Opening Pandora's Box, which didn't appear in the original movie at all I think, would have resulted in the second act threat I think.
I know that it's supposed to be the tie-in for Maleficent's black box plot but at the same time Olympus was the first world they developed for the game so it could really be a left over since it's also the only other black box the duo ever finds.

It didn't feel like something that was hanging over the game too much but there were a few times where I thought the worlds stories came to an abrupt end. In Olympus' case they don't get to the part of the movie where Herc has to rescue Meg from the River Styx, but the Underworld is making some kind of return in KH4 judging from the trailer. And Toy Box never actually resolves the toys being separated from Andy they just get back home somehow and we see that in the credits.

They could've done more with San Fransokyo and have you actually fight some supervillains. And Monstropolis I think could've been split into two visits where you fight Randall in the first one and then Vanitas is more the focus the second time. If it was KH2 the Vanitas stuff would probably be revisit because they really threw him in there at the end. And Caribbean you could've probably divided into Vexen and Luxord visits. I'm not sure where you could've shoved Demyx.

We never fight Maleficent and Pete in 2 it's really just a side plot so idk if it was ever considered for them to be a bigger deal in Olympus, Corona and San Fransokyo. I think they missed a chance to have Marluxia and Maleficent interact in Corona given she fought him in UX. I'm curious what leads they got in the other Disney worlds and what they even did in them. And it's weird that the Caribbean had a box but it was Vexen who was interested and Maleficent was nowhere to be seen in that world.

Well if the toys went back to the real world you wouldn't have them in your party for revisits so I get the practical reasons behind it. Olympus in the series takes a lot of liberties with the plot of Hercules but 3 decided to be more faithful. 2's version doesn't match up with the movie that much so I figured maybe that stuff did happen offscreen after Herc retook Olympus and they just skipped over it to avoid being repetitive. The Cyclops Titan is missing from the world too and that's what causes Meg's death in the movie. She never actually dies in KH2.

Maybe that's a tiny thing they'll save for an Olympus revisit in a future game. They can make the excuse they didn't use the cyclops in any of the games so Hades still has one weapon in his arsenal. Well there's other shit you see in the movie like the Harpies and Boar so there's still some bosses they can wheel out if they wanted to milk it. It's weird they actually included the cyclops in this artwork but not in the games.

I didn't even realize Pandora's Box was actually from the movie when I first played 3 I thought they'd made a unique prop. But that was from the movie I don't think they've ever crossed into tv or even direct-to-dvd sequel territory with the Disney film-based worlds. I think all the Disney Castle characters debuted in something shown in a theater. The only thing I could find was this reference to the Toy Story That Time Forgot christmas special they put in Toy Box. Country of the Musketeers is a big outlier.

Still can't get over the insane coincidence of Nomura putting Julius in Dream Drop Distance considering Yozora. Apparently John Lasseter hated this short though. I'm glad Disney let Nomura use it.

What would Aya be like in Kingdom Hearts?

I think it’s safe to assume that Energy Shot, Liberate, Heal, Slow, Confuse, and her other abilities wouldn’t be parasite energy or have anything to do with mitochondria. Just for the sake of keepings simple she’d be an especially powerful mage in the Kingdom Hearts universe.

But would her clothes and look get redesigned? It would be weird to have a normal looking cop standing next to Squall and Yuffie.

What about her gun? Shooting at Sora in the Olympus and Underworld tournaments with a normal modern handgun seems bizarre, they’d probably change that. Maybe she'd just use a baton but be more of an agile martial artist with it compared to the simple clubbing she did in her game? Maybe some wonky sci-fi gun, a sword, only do magic?

Would different versions of Maya or Eve follow Aya into the Kingdom Hearts setting?

Aya would look good in that getup. I assumed she'd be a civilian like Squall and his friends but I guess it would make sense for her to be a member of the palace guard. Squall and the rest didn't know much about what happened, they just got stuck cleaning up the mess. It would be interesting if a member of that gang had a personal grudge against Ansem for making her quit/get fired. But maybe this would make her too knowledgeable, it might kill the mystery.

the source code for the ds games will probably not help much at all with a remake (and it must be a remake cause they're not going to be releasing on the ds). But the ultimate reason is they're probably not confident it will make them money versus other endeavors. I think it would easily sell among kh fans, even with those who don't like days or recoded. Thinking too hard about this but; Axel is fire/the sun in contrast with Saix being the moon which is close-ish to Sora being the sky but there's that day/night and light/darkness dichotomy Sora and Riku have too. The moon is more associated with the ocean/water though. I guess the sun and moon are separated by space similar to how sky and land (Sora and Riku) are separate. Does that make Subject X space or gravity the way that Kairi is the ocean that connects the sky (horizon) with the land? Skuld means debt/obligation which you could equate with gravity?

How did Xemnas make an artificial Kingdom Hearts? That seems like a strange ability to have even for a powerful Nobody. The other Xehanorts, even when using Keyblades, couldn't do something like that. I feel like this needs to be explained just like Xemnas' bizarre choice not to use a Keyblade even during fights to the death where he would need the extra power.

If we look at all three KHs created in the series, (KH1, KHII, BbS/X), the common factor is that in all three cases many hearts are being released simultaneously or in quick succession. So it might be that they congregate naturally.

Not sure if the Dark City was always there or if it was created like the castle presumably was. But since Xehanort/Xemnas got the Nobody symbol from Scala and his own keyblade armor, plus his name being "No Heart", I liked the idea of all the Nobody shit being Xehanort's doing and the World That Never Was looking like a city is because he created it based on a memory he'd seen of Quadratum, kind of like he creates the artificial Kingdom Hearts.

That'd be a cool way of connecting the two worlds because at the very least they're linked in a meta sense with Nomura's interest in urban settings and TWTNW have a similar aesthetic to Versus XIII Insomnia. Not to mention the whole Quadratum/Unreality concept seems to be repurposing ideas from the Another Side secret ending and KH2. So TWTNW and Quadratum are born from the same basic concept of like a hidden world on the other side of the KH one.
