gukesh is an overall better player, but with the format and the amount of preparation that goes in, ding still has a massive chance. he's basically fighting for the last of his dignity considering everyone has been calling him a fragile mentally ill loser for 2 years. it will be a 50/50 toss up.

Indians surround and press against favored individuals, en masse, as a ritual of endearment. The purpose is to replicate the feeling of being in India with the stifling body heat and sweaty moisture. Like a rugby scrum but with more groping.

I get what you're saying but in online chess that is a good strategy. I do it too because much more often than not, your opponent will do anything possible to avoid repeating even if he's black and/or lower rated. I have gotten countless wins from them blundering trying to avoid a repetition.
I wouldn't do it OTB though.

Not the first time this happened either, as much as I hate stench it's nice that reports actually do something, on lichess I don't even bother anymore
On the other hand the % of cheaters on .com is way higher in my expirience so lichess is still the lesser evil

In Stjepan's defense, to get a high rating in those time controls you need to play into the time control, ie, not take a ton of time on your decisions. If he is doing it to prepare for OTB chess, then he could be playing in a way that's antithetical to success in the time control.

Guys, did you know that I was the one who suggested a change to lichess that got implemented and it has now affected millions of people worldwide?

It better not have been that stupid variation arrows (((feature)))
I hate that thing and turn it off every time I use the analysis board.
>>
>>502903472
No, that is just something the GUI guys came up with to justify their continued existence.

My recommendation was to have the move arrow appear on the board when you hover your cursor over a game in the master database. Like you see the "top games from this position" section, and if you hover over the Carlsen-Giri game, the arrow shows what Carlsen played in that position, so you don't have to click the game to see.
>>
>>502903682
cool didnt know about that feature

The final round of the Osho challenger league is being played. Three players, Takuya Nagase (4-1), Seiya Kondo (3-2), and Takuya Nishida (4-1) are eligible to win the tournament. Nagase and Nishida can both win outright, while Kondo can win by a tiebreaker game if he gets lucky.

Nishida-Hirose
https://www.sponichi.co.jp/entertainment/news/2024/11/20/kiji/20241120c00041S01003000c.html
If both Nagase and Nishida win, they will play a tiebreaker. If both of them lose, there will be a tiebreaker between Nagase and Kondo. If one of them wins, and the other loses, the player that won their game becomes the challenger with no tiebreaker.
Also being played is a game between the two players in last place, Yoshiharu Habu (1-4) and Yuki Saskai (0-5).

it's pretty well universal that everyone thinks gukesh is the favorite here. I don't think Ding has recovered from his malaise. I think he would need a combination of two factors to secure a win: Gukesh must show his age early on, make some mistake, show some hesitation, something. 2. Ding must capitalize on this. If Gukesh slips up and Ding misses it, Ding is done. Gukesh will roll him after that. If Ding does capitalize on the mistake, maybe something clicks with him and he comes alive.

All that is low percentage. Gukesh's team may very well tell him he doesn't need to apply pressure at all for the first half of the match. Just sit back, take no risk, try to make the unspoken point that it's Ding who has to prove something here. I don't really know the psychological game in chess over lengthy matches like this but it makes sense in my head.

Carlsen loves money. Also he's a meganormie. He sees nothing wrong with Stench, Rozman, Tanya, GM FM CM Canty the 19th. He's also a huge Americanophile. His favourite sports are football ("soccer"), basketball and baseball. 2 out of 3 of his fav sports are American games.

I'm not sure Dubov is implying cheat with that statement. Gukesh's style is strangely clinical because he apparently calculates the hell out of every single move. It's why he's so slow. It's like he doesn't really care about a broader strategy. Instead every move is separate from the one before it once he's out of prep.

Well, it looks like you guys were right about the cheater not being banned within 24 hrs.
I still feel like he might be banned from my report but it would take another day, but who knows?

If he's not banned, my question is: How the hell do they ever falsely ban people then? What kind of terrible process do they have that they can ban one of the few people on the entire site who has never cheated yet they fail to ban such obvious cheaters?

lol that's scummy. wonder if kramnik will call him out.

Dubov said he did something similar against players he thought were cheating.

Just ban all Russians and cheating rates would go way down. Same in cs go and dota Russians are the known cheaters

You have any data to support this claim? It's not my experience.

there is no process or system other than a jannie reading your report, if you are lucky, and deciding on a whim
sometimes your report will be seen by jannie with at least half a working brain that will do his job more often you will get a complete retard that will do nothing
I remember some podcast that was posted here long ago with a lichess mod and he said if he's "only" 99% sure someone is cheating he won't ban and seemed to think that made him virtuous and rational lol, I assume the opposite exist and some are too trigger happy
Just like with 4chan jannies people willing to do this shit for free are doing to feel "power" over others and not right in the head one way or the other

In shitter online blitz? Pick one of the versions of the closed. The b3/Snyder variation in particular is often a problem for me because it's rare even among closed players and I never feel like I have enough practice against it. Starts:
1. e4 c5 2. b3
and usually continues like
Nc6 3. Bb2 d6 or something with Bb5 and often some early f4 unless black has played e5 already. f4 anyway in some move orders is still playable but it's a different more aggressive kind of plan.... which scores really well on lichess player database I see now. Yeah this all looks really good for white among blitz shitters. No wonder I get run over by it so often. I need better prep for black.

Noob here.
White to play. Why is Bxc7 better than controlling the center with e5?

I saw Bxc7 and thought "why bother, they're just gonna do Qe7 or Qe8". But apparently engine is seeing 7. ...Qe7 8. Bd6 Qxd6 and says it's better than 8. Bd6 Qf7. Why is sacking the Queen for a Bishop better here?

Couple reasons:
Bxc7 takes material with tempo on the queen, plus gets the bishop very involved on the attack on the king
e5 doesn't really do much. It blocks your bishop's scope.
Also, if we define the center as the central squares, d5-e5-e4-d4, it doesn't control the center. It actually cedes control of the center. The pawn on e4 controls the central square d5, but on e5 it points at d6 and f6.

The engine wants to give up the queen because it realizes it is screwed and it's better to trade off the attacking pieces so it doesn't get immediately checkmated.

Imagine being someone who plays this beefeater variation. Look at how well it scores in the walrus database. It is disgusting and smelly.
>>
controlling the center shouldn't be a huge concern for you in that position, he has zero exposed pieces and an exposed king and you have activity
you should be looking for ways to tear him into shreds not locking down the position

Thanks for the insight, makes sense
I also didn't consider that's something engines would do (seek to just trade anything to reduce attackers)

I figured out why some of com's puzzle's have completely inappropriate ratings. It's right in their documentation. They lock a puzzle's rating after a period of time and it will stay there forever regardless of solve rate unless/until a com janny decides to change it.
>When a puzzle is first added, its rating is determined by who is able to solve it. After a set period, the puzzle’s rating becomes locked and does not change further. In some cases, if a puzzle’s rating is found to be inaccurate, Chess.com may adjust it to better reflect its difficulty.
https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8602396-how-do-puzzle-ratings-work

This is why you can run across puzzles on the site with five figures worth of plays on them and somehow 20% pass rate or 80% pass rate. I can't figure out a reason why they thought this was a good idea. I don't know what it does unless they specifically want a portion of puzzles they know are over or underrated, then offer those specific puzzles to particular players at particular times for some engagement hand rubbing reasons. There is no legitimate reason for this.

I'll tell you what the reason is anon, it's chess com incompetence

https://csstats.gg/vac-stats-2022
Steam used to have public stats about bans. Cheaters are overwhelmingly Russians.
>>
>>503043324
It’s obvious when you think about it. Nepo, Dubov, Kramnik all intimating that everyone else are cheaters. It’s a guilty conscious telling on themselves because they used to be backed by state-sponsored cheating. Don’t forget Kramnik was credibly accused of cheating in a World Championship match even. But the zoomers here won’t remember that.
