Netrunning was utterly mismanaged in this game.They clearly conceived a system that required players to breach into local networks through access points to be able to quickhack enemies, robots, turrets, cameras and so on. Pretty sure it was shown in some of the previews, and the fact bigger locations have enemies linked to specific access points (rather than having a "centralized" system that covers entire mission areas) suggests that was indeed the original idea. Then they probably realized the system was too complex for the average player, so they took the Hitman route dumbed it down (I'm talking about World of Assassination; when the game first dropped -was it during the beta?- you were required to find different security hubs to erase camera tapes, then they scrapped it by requiring a single hack that covers the entire level).Except they made it even easier, they removed the network breaching part and made the player an unstoppable hacking god that's instantly able to kill people with his mind by just looking at them. It was like Watch Dogs but even more OP; investing in a netrunning build made the game absolutely trivial halfway through, you were able to dominate each and every situation by sitting on your ass and neutralizing entire armies of people through cameras. Which is probably why they tried to weaken netrunners with the 2.0 patch, but they did so in a fairly clumsy and underwhelming way. Now hacking means getting constantly traced by random low level goons so a full stealth/netrunner build is just annoying; no matter how much you upgrade your tech, you'll likely get spotted anyways and forced to flee or fight. So you either use hacking as an extra superpower to cheese a couple of enemies in your killing spree, or you annoyingly run back and forth to keep your cover. By the time you fully finalize your build you're OP again, and in the meanwhile it wasn't really challenging or rewarding. I just can't find it as satisfying as it could be.

Networks are made of multiple systems that are connected to different kinds of "users" (people, turrets, cameras, general objects); you need to breach each specific system or you won't be able to hack its related targets. This forces you to actually go stealth, study and exploit the AI and level design to try and infiltrate enemy bases before going on your hacking spree. No more clearing a whole warehouse by sitting on your ass outside like in the pre-Edgerunners update. You need to use your brain, have a strategy, get your hands dirty and actually play the game. I think it works well with "Trace position overhaul". It makes you vulnerable to other netrunners and high level hackers, but generic minions won't be able to trace you -unless they're connected to a netrunner-managed network (because the netrunner will spot you otherwise). Which means you're forced to prioritize finding and taking out netrunners as soon as you breach a network, adding a layer of complexity. Skill tags (such as "tracing ability") are clearly shown when you scan enemies so you know where to start.It's pretty customizable so you can made it easier or harder according to your needs and tastes. If it's too frustrating, you can use self-explanatory mods such as "Sonic shock prevents trace", "Stealth Remote control car and turrets" or "Shadowrunner stops trace" to further lowering tracing annoyances and make hacking more viable.Then you can install "Stealthrunner" to actually get objectives, perks and bonuses for a pure stealth playthrough. It's explicitly inspired by Deus Ex and it shows, but I also like it as it gives the non-lethal approach an actual purpose. If you know other compatible mods that would enhance the stealth/hacking experience feel free to list them.

It encouraged paying attention and checking corners, rather than 1 quickhack doing all the heavy lifting of finding people. i personally dont mind that some of the covert hacks start a trace in the new system since my approach is already very active, and acts more as a motivator to keep moving and dropping targets. it worked well for my nonlethal playthrough and very lethal playthrough, no mods required. If there were a mod to let me read the contents of shards and view their social network through their co-processor without the need for killing or knocking them out, that would be interesting. It could add another layer to world building, providing a different angle to view gang networks and spot repeating names and track them through the world.

While I like mods, I'm also a little annoyed that anytime a game is missing some basic feature that there's always at least a few people who will just say "there's a mod!" Well yes I know but there's some things that should just be in a game to begin with. How did modding go from people adding extra things to a game into modding being a devs backup to fix a broken or unfinished game? We went from moddering creating Counter Strike to modders fixing games or adding basic features.
>>502900760they changed the weapon damage scaling and weapon rarity with 2.0. before if you found a common weapon it would scale to your level so it was always usable. but now a common shotgun will do, lets say, 20 damage and every common weapon of that type will always do just 20 damage. And the only way to get an increase in damage is to find the next higher rarity of that weapon. which adds a bit of RNG into what weapons are available to you. so if you like a particular shotgun and you go into harder content where it does dogshit damage, you better get lucky and hope someone drops you a better one. And they changed the crafting system, where you can only do small upgrading and rarity upgrades on Iconic weapons. You cant do small upgrades on Non-iconics. You also cant remove mods from weapons, only scopes and muzzle attachments. With shotguns, the damage is pretty terrible and you may need to rely on dismemberment rng for kills. they also changed how V crafts Mods, you need two of a mods lesser version to create a better one. you wind up needing to hoard mods that you buy and save up to craft better ones, to hopefully put on a weapon that has empty mod slots. the tech shotgun should be good, but for powered shotguns the Crusher is what i went with to just spam dismemberment chances at people. the slower shotguns felt bad, but might feel better on lower difficulties. since your damage will be terrible until above level 45 when legendary weapons start dropping, you will want to invest in healing item regeneration perks from tech and have bloodpump as your healing item paired with biomonitor, which activates healing items for you. healing manually will get you killed, as body playstyles want you next to enemies, punching them for damage buffs. You will want micro generator hand cyberware to increase your damage, you'll need it. LMGs are still trash. id recommend spawning yourself iconic body weapons if you have a particular weapon in mind.
