Ian is at his best when he has someone to keep his stories under control, like George Lucas (Ians close to same level though). His best stories never came from him only and built upon the ideas of others and also had stronger oversight. I think they saw Ian as the writer equivalent to Christian Whitehead and the Sonic mania guys, but he was nowhere near Tee Lopes or or Tyson Hesse in his respective art form.

SA1 surpassed 170~180K in its release week, it's no more or less Japanese than the majority of other Sonic games.Sonic games having gameplay elements that appeal more to Japanese gamers would certainly help its appeal, but Sonic just needs more marketing in general.

I think it's important to note that the Teen Titans in the comics were nothing noteworthy. Nobody gave a shit about the comic incarnation of Cyborg or Jinx until the Teen Titans show essentially rebooted them into the most beloved version of the character. Over in the TMNT fandom there isn't much concern over any version except Next Mutation and the first Bay film.
