XIII is an underrated masterpiece that was horribly misunderstood when it came out.
The issue with FF XIII is that it's lifeless. No NPCs, no interesting buildings or landscapes, no shops besides the little orb, no minigames, absolutely nothing. It's quite literally just fight enemies > cutscene > fight enemies > cutscene which the occasional treasure chest 10ft off the path. Playing FF XIII doesn't feel like venturing into a new world. FF4 is pretty great. Not a fan of having my party swapped around so much, but all the characters have been pretty good so it's not a huge deal. I think Rydia and Cid are my favorites, but Tellah had a pretty great story arc.My only other complaint is Paladin class felt like a huge downgrade.
