What do you think of Gerald's journal that came with Shadgens? I thought it tied everything together pretty well and presented the various lore expansions over time cohesively. I assume Ian wrote it, so I also assume there are gripes that haven't occurred to me. My nitpick is that redacting the names of Gerald's sons wasn't really necessary because their names aren't massive plot-driving secrets or anything and it just comes off as artificial mystery (or nobody wanting to have to work to come up with a decent name for Ivo's father in particular).

Shadow's lore ended up being fairly coherent but they still haven't addressed the biggest loose end with his backstory in how Gerald went from a feral salamander to an anthropomorphic hedgehog. Black Doom's involvement and DNA only serve to muddle this evolution further because the Black Arms are nothing resembling hedgehogs. The Super Sonic mural theory is pure fanon unless Ian decides to throw it in (has he talked about it before?).

Almost the same problem as the Chaotix, but at least they have Knuckles and come from a platformer. So either Bean and Bark actually have bonds with a more defined character and serve a purpose -- they're Fang's boys who like to get into mischief and misadventures with him -- or they're too low priority to have any justifiable reason to appear at all. I don't know about you, but I'd rather get to see them express their personalities as Fang's goons than never get to see them at all. And the best part is, they don't have to change as characters for that either. Bean was always a nutjob and Bark was always a brute in their animations, they had no quarrels with joining a random shady fighting tournament just for the hell of it, so making them crooks that got recruited by Fang isn't a stretch. He likes to get out there, fight people, and treat life like a game, so Fang's misadventures are a natural outlet for him. He'll play a part in Fang's plans, break laws, and hurt people who get in their way, etc, but he'll never hurt the innocent or the defenseless, and he'll try not to hurt people more than necessary to reach his payday.
