Because of how dark and foggy the map is, it gets really pretty with all the plasma bolts, blamite needles, and fire projectiles flying around. The explosions also light up the terrain, so you have this really comfy mix of nightlight colors. It's a completely different ambience compared to the other maps.

I like how solid stuff looks and like it's actually there physically, and not just floating around. The fog almost looks 3D like in modern games. Really helps to add scale and density to the simpler terrain/architecture of Halo 2. This structure for instance looks massive. I don't remember being as impressed with it back on the original Xbox. It was just there. In fact I don't remember this map looking particularly pretty either. And yet in 2025, I've actually stopped to ogle at it. It felt so small the last time I played Halo 2 BTB, yet now I'm really amazed how big the map feels, and I think that's due to the better lighting/graphics of Halo 3's engine, so even though the textures are the same, it still feels like a remastered map.
Actually that doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. The textures are fine for the time. But compared to that Halo 3 firefight mod, it's harder to get a sense of the depth/scale of that structure because the image overall looks a bit flat. Those rocks in front kind of look like they're detached from the world, and the background cliff's shape is hard to determine without moving and seeing parallax, due to not having any fog. There's some artifical god rays shining in from the top of the map, but again, it's hard to tell its there in 3D space without moving to activate parallax. But some of that lighting on the structure does look nice, like a precursor to Halo 3's lighting. (Such as that subtle shadow behind the red flag, or the shadowy parts on the rusted metal)

Half the reason Halo got as popular as it was 20 years ago was because it was basically one of a handful on online games that weren't complete trash, and basically the only console game that had good online capability. Kids don't know it, but having a good gaming PC was almost exclusively for nerds (losers) 20 years ago. And today, basically every game has online functionality for better or worse, so people are spread across a dozens or hundreds of games. Halo was good and it was always going to be a top tier game in terms of quality due to the talent and care of the people who used to make it, but the "lighting in a bottle" part was mostly timing that allowed it to become popular. Now for some pseudo-intellectual to try to deny this basic history lesson and try to shoehorn an argument about how Sprint can fix Halo, despite the fact it's part of what fundamentally broke it.
