The distancing messes them both up. Janet ends up to be the one that gets them both to make up and talk things out and clear up some misunderstandings.There's also the pissy spoiled princess aspects that Melissa can harbor at times, you could easily write something relating to that. It'd do some good for Melissa's character too. Considering most people consider her to be a sorta pseudo modern princess both in her eyes and in the narratives eyes.

It's only a "main ship" for as long as it remains his most popular, not to say any of them should be treated any better or worse than others merely because they are less or more popular.

She's a nice girl but she's got a spoiled upbringing and she knows it, so she tries to stow it down but sometimes she can't help herself. She can easily go down the route of developing a rotten personality if her so called "normal school year" gamble (because that's what it is, a gamble) ends up as a fluke and she's forced to turn tail back to her parents and their money.

The way I see it is that it's just sorta a fallback for a plot where Greene needs a partner, then Mel is just chosen because she's the easiest and doesn't really get in the way of anything besides other ships.Greene/Mel is safe I should say. As when Greene/Mel was starting out, Greene had his own dynamic with Janet and Cynthia that wasn't romantic. So nobody really gets upset when you go with Greene/Mel (unless you're a shipwarrer)
I'm in the Greene x Melissa camp.Don't know if I have the energy to get into a whole detailed post, but the key points are:>Just gonna be honest I think they're cute together>They share a passion of reading, fantasy, and academic research>She doesn't ask Greene what he can do do for her, but what she can do for him>She seems like the only one who can rise to the challenge of helping him with his issues in the long term>Willing to try new things because she wants to be with him (aka going innawoods)I'm totally on board with her being a bit of a brat when forced out of her comfort zone. Most people are. I'm less inclined to give her a "princess" personality, except in the sense where she'd be one of those "wish upon a star," princesses that are waiting for prince charming to sweep them off their feet. Like a huge romantic nerd that sits by windows and sighs wistfully.I also like the idea that she really would rather stay indoors and at the library than go outside, but after the third or so trip innawoods with Greene and Janet she starts to just get used to it.Like, she starts to see what Greene sees. I think it should be established that she doesn't know how to save money, because money is never an issue for her. She just buys stuff without thinking. Greene needs a new tent? She'll buy the most expensive one and not even look at the price tag. Which could be what gives the game away about how rich she is.anyway, that's my thoughts, though a bit summarized

Kinda defeats the point of camping does it?"Not really a character aspect thing. More of a fun little source of realization for Melissa that Greene is what she strives to be. Someone satisfied with what he has and even embraces it, maybe not when it gets unhealthy for him.Like a filler moral-of-the-episode bit.
