>>521462707
They have "ruddervators", which like the name implies do the job of both. This means you get less control surfaces therefore less points of failure and maintenance, but also you're in more troublw if they fail. They're also stealthier due to not being at 90 degree angles. That said IIRC they can cause some airflow issues so you need chines or canards or LERX etc to properly guide the air to them, and a quick glance at wikipedia says you need a longer and stronger fuselage becauae they suffer more stress

Well I'm finally done with the F-35C skin and it now uses a custom normal map here's a better view of it https://files.catbox.moe/9wtwcn.png
Sadly it is far from perfect as it currently has a problem with the fuel probe cover ignoring the MREC https://files.catbox.moe/s62rf4.jpg and to be honest I gave up trying to fix it as I couldn't pinpoint the cause.
Anyway here's the file, it uses Slot 5(Spare) https://files.catbox.moe/459v8o.7z

Hello aces, just wanted to mention that my amateur solo game dev project Hellbirther is free and might be fun for most people visiting this general. It's basically a love letter to Ace Combat in many ways and should be very familiar to anyone who has played Ace Combat before especially. The game is 2D top down action/strategy with multiple modes and uses traditional shooter controls. Instead of a fighter jet you control a walking tank remotely using satellite video. Wanted to mention it here because I'm not aware of too many places online frequently talking about Ace Combat, and I genuinely think a lot of you guys would enjoy the game.

>>
>>521657829
>>521668552
The problem with PW's hardpoint-based system is that you can just make a perfect multirole mix of anti-air and anti-surface weapons, bring it to every mission, and never have to change it. Given AC's penchant for throwing fighters at you in the middle of explicitly A2G missions, it'd be a no-brainer to always bring something like it.
>you can just force yourself not to bring those loadouts
The realisation takes away some of the novelty.
>>
>>521670864
Look neat, I'll check it out once I'm out of test hell.

>>

>>
>>521675890
Very true, but PLSL or MGP also lets you ignore tradeoffs between A2A and A2G, albeit you need to put time and effort into aiming those versus slinging MLAA and MLAG whenever they reload.

Do we know amything new about the Chinese tri engine jet?
>>
>>521749685
Apparently they've seen all three of them burning at low altitude, which rules out the whole ramjet theory. I think they actually need three engines to get that fat fuck off the ground.
>>
>>521751818
That's what's strange though. Usually triple engine setups don't produce much more net thrust-to-weight, due to the added mass of the third engine and the extra fuel. The best solution is typically to use two bigger engines. I'm assuming the Chinese can't build an engine in the F135 class just yet.
I'm betting the J-36 is just a tech demonstrator, and whatever serial production fighter derives from it will be twin engine once their engine tech has caught up.

Some experts were saying all the nee tech eats too much electricity and they need the extra engine simply for power generating needs. A big fuckoff radar plus EWAR stuff and sensors eats a lot of juice. I'm inclined to believe it's this combined with the "China can't into good engines" theory
>>
>>521751818
>>521753494
The design work seems too far ahead for it to be a simple demonstrator, and it really is a huge aircraft that is still meant to be supersonic. Fully loaded, putting two ends on a spectrum, it'll probably be closer to a Lancer's weight than to a J-20's.
