Antiyurikeks are incapable of enjoying PMMM in any way. As long as you keep in mind that Homura is gay, a bunch of them are probably gay, and basically every MagiReco character is probably gay, you'll be fine. You don't have to go all in on shipping or anything, you don't need the yuri parts to be focus. Just acknowledge that it exists as subtext and makes some parts of the story more interesting. For example, in Arc 2 of GameReco, there's a character known as The Bat of Monzenbashi who "abused" a bunch of other characters, namely to leads named Ao and Ranka. This dynamic is far more interesting if you read into the implies sexual abuse that is present. But beyond that specific example, just in general, there's a lot of yuri subtext that you can enjoy the series regardless of, but will probably enhance your experience.

I couldn't imagine feeling this way. There are a number of core themes are ideas that influence the story and characters and world of PMMM, but one that I think is often overlooked is it's commentary on the commodification of women and girls and female sexuality. Society often views women as property, as thing to be possessed and controlled by men. Their productive ability is meant to be directed towards one thing (home making and raising children). And their sexuality is something to be controlled and exists at the behest of men. PMMM mirrors this, showing how magical girls are literally used as batteries for "the greater good". Since we start with girls going through puberty, and witches are positioned as the adult form of magical girls, that the transition between these two states can be viewed as sexual awakening i indicative of how the magical girl system is meant to mirror how actual societies exploit the sexuality of young women.I got a little carried away there. But the point that I was going to make was that the "I want to protect them" feels like it's an intended response a male viewer (I'm not that so i cant speak to that) might have, but it's one you're supposed to be disabused of by the end of the show. The incuabtors themselves are the patriarchal figure (despite their in universe lack of sex or gender) and their "guidance" is deeply biased and reinforces harm. Mami replicates this with her role as a teacher always leading back into the system of oppression. One of the messages of the original show is that of independence and trying to escape coercive and oppressive systems. Rebellion expands a lot on this, but with the addition of asking the audience for their input. Was homura wrong is not an in universe question, but one about the readers values.

In the more lighthearted stories, this is just a cartoon plot conceit to make things exciting. But in heavier stories, the moemoe traits are what informs and affects how or why, or why NOT the capability for violence is used, rather than signalling the incapacity to do so.

I know that part of the narrative and imagery tells us that she's not so much becoming a martyr like Homura supposes, but a buddhavista to guide souls towards enlightment, which are very different. But answer that doesn't actually tell us why Madoka did what she did and how she truly feels about it. Was it selflessness? Was it overwriting the wishes of Homura and telling her to fuck off and that her suffering wasnt worth shit? Was it reaching enlightenment? I don't have a definite answer to these questions. But I think this question is part of what makes Rebellion good.Because Homura views Madoka not as a Kanon-like god who simply ascended without sacrificing, but as a Jesus like martyr who has died for other who don't even appreciate her sacrifice or that she even existed at all. This view enrages Homura. She views Madoka as the ultimate in selfless self-sacrifice, but is she really? I don't know. But that's what Homura thinks, and she hates that.
