I have this catgirl character named Kasha who I want to use in a number of game projects. I've been building a universe with her since I was in junior high - I think I've had this character for about 24 or 25 years by now. She is a small catgirl with a magic shapeshifting tail who likes playing ball games and lives with a giant tiger woman named Milchi.

I have a bunch of Kasha projects being made.. Don't know which to focus on. Wish I could just focus on my fighting game. But I know that if I don't focus on making and releasing a game as complete as I can make it then my fighting game has no hope of being good.

I have three projects with my catgirl in various states of development.

Kasha vs Kritters - arcade style game about defeating enemies, actively in development, several levels and enemies are made already.

Hole-in-Nyan - 3D PS1-style minigolf game, prototype made godot. Trying to figure out how to proceed, want to learn 3D gamedev pipeline.

Untitled Kasha "Big Platformer" - this one's a larger game. It is an action platformer in the style of Super Mario World where Kasha treks around the country in search of her mama and meets several adoptive mamas. It's a big classic adventure where she turns her tail into stuff.

I've bought one of these blender addons before, the problem with them is the same as with godot addons; blender updates so fucking often that it's out of date immediately.

Coincidentally it was a script that ripped out the DEF bones and put them in their own skeleton to make exporting to godot easier and I can't even remember what version of blender it was for anymore.

I'm trying to think of ways to make it easier to tell which character is speaking, besides just the name at the top of the textbox. I'm thinking either (1) a small picture of the speaking character's head near the textbox or (2), a small triangle at the top of the namebox that points to the speaking character, almost like a speech bubble. Any suggestions?
I guess another option would be to brighten the speaking character and darken all the others, but I'm worried it might get jarring, switching all the time.

I've looked at a few different games. Tales of Symphonia does something kind of similar to picrel (which is basically (2) in my other post). The only problem is, in Tales of Symphonia, the speech bubble is always above the character, so they can move the triangle around freely. In my game, the textbox is always going to be in the same spot. I could maybe combine the two: put the triangle on top of the namebox, and then slide the namebox around the top of the textbox so it always points to whoever is speaking. But I'm sure there are other options.

Good point. I'm currently at a phase in development where my work is highly technical, and less creative. It's easy for me to get distracted with other activities, or to simply be lazy, and let a day go by. If I'm not careful, I can let multiple days go by, and when I return to working on my game, the process doesn't feel as good.
To remedy this, I try to ensure I do at least one small task per day. Even if it's as simple as making a minor tweak to a UI element, or an asset, or modifying an audio file, or even just reviewing and making changes to my notes relating to the game, it adds up in the long run. Sometimes I'll have weeks where each day, I only do minor tweaks. After this period, my energy is built up, and I have enough time to devote myself to a couple large work sessions. Without the daily minor tasks, the large sessions wouldn't have been as productive.
I think your point is valid, but me prioritizing at least one task per day definitely helps me stay on track when I get distracted or have low periods.

We will see, my demo only has 6 minutes of content yet has an average playtime of nearly an hour among nearly 2000 unique players. Are you good at writing?
A text-only game like Corruption of Champions can definitely work and even become popular, but it seems most people who go that path vastly underestimate the amount of writing required to keep the player engaged long enough.
DoL uses a dirty trick to avoid that. instead of writing all the sex scenes, the sex scenes are dynamically generated. This makes every sex scene technically unique with very little writing required, but they all start to feel the same.

All the strings are part of the program. If the scope balloons (who knows?) I'd consider files.

As you see in this image there are only 3 rooms and nothing interesting yet. I'm trying to pin down how I should structure the interactivity between game objects and commands. I think every interactable thing like people, items, etc. should have a list of possible commands and how they can be used. I'll need to think on it.

I was looking at those old games source code like Zork and they do the same thing. Its not a lot of data so it makes sense.

If interactables could just list what actions can be done on them, that would be some great quality of life. A simple "Talk Look Grab Combine" command list would be fine too, I guess, it makes the dev's work easier.

I'm a pretty solid writer and I'm good with engineering in terms of code, my main plan is to mash both of those together and make something like DoL's algorithmically generated sex scenes but more dynamic. It'll be way more writing than DoL and a lot of infrastructure work but should lend well to the simulator sort of thing I want to make and give a lot of replayability

I can definitely see where you're coming from but I don't think my premise really works without some degree of dynamic generation, my plan to get around the repetition of it would be 1: making the writing a bit less dry than DoL's "you do x with y" and trying to minimize sections where it's just you and the npc doing the same thing 10 times in a row; 2: giving npcs traits that control what actions they lean towards, how they're described, etc.; 3: ideally having some system to concatenate actions together where appropriate to make things flow more dynamically and not just be presented as a list of statements; 4: maybe writing some randomly chosen alt lines for more variety if/where it seems necessary. That's all digging myself into an entirely different hole of having to write absolutely insane amounts of content for every possible interaction but I've done similar experiments in the past so I think it's possible if nothing else. It'll mostly be a matter of whether I can pace myself and fill things out as I go rather than try to make a ton of systems at once and get swamped in the amount of content I need to make at once. Anyways this is rambly as fuck but posting about it is helping me sort out how I'm going to organize this a bit
