Cream isn't a "Girl Sonic" at all. Cream the Rabbit is a "Girl Tails", through and through. She's a little sister figure who wants to follow along on these adventures and help out, but in this specific cover story we see Sonic being apprehensive about letting her come along because it's too dangerous. That's like a blend of Tails being the "Kid", the Little Brother, and Amy being a "Girl" who has to be "protected" because it's "too dangerous". Cream is Girl Tails and Kid Amy, with a blend of both Tails & Amy's arcs. Tails is the Kid-Sonic, and as a "Kid", he's a little brother figure who follows Sonic around because he wants to be like him. Amy is the Girl-Sonic, and as a "Girl", she was treated as a damsel in distress that has to be protected from danger. Both Tails & Amy had to prove themselves in spite of their initial perception. That in spite of being a "kid", Tails can do what Sonic does and maybe even surpass him. That in spite of being a "girl", Amy has strength that can put any man to shame. Cream combines both of those narratives into one. As a kid sibling, she wants to join in on the fun adventure. But as a young GIRL, she's treated as a delicate flower that has to be coddled and sheltered (compare that to Charmy who got to fight in a war, no problem). So Cream not only has to prove her worth in spite of her young age like Tails, but also prove that she doesn't need to be protected like Amy.

All of Cream's pacifism is rooted in that aspect of her character role/concept. She's a little -girl-, so she shouldn't fight. But just like Tails and Amy, she breaks that mold.

"Evil" is the extra layer added right on top of that makes it "spicier" than standard Sonamy, but that core of "well they're basically the same" is still there. 2) Male/Female rivals often end up being boiled down to a tsundere ship thing. Key example being Rouge who is designed to be a rival to Knuckles, which as a femme fatale translates into a love interest you have to fight. Because it is nigh-impossible to portray a male and a female as having very strong emotions towards each other without it being romantic. Even if the characters are biologically related, if they're relationship is a constant bitter rivalry where they're always at each other's throats, you're just asking for them to get shipped.

But, those other characters have links to other characters across-teams. As an example, I have a "Jet" character in the "Tails" group, "Storm" in the "Knuckles" group and "Wave" in the "Blaze" group. So instead of working on everyone by "here's the Sonic team, here's the Tails team, here's the Amy team, etc", I had to realign all my characters to -also- line up across those teams a well. So, I can have a "Team Rose" consisting of Amy, Cream, Cheese, Big and Rouge, but "Rouge" is also aligned with "Omega" on a different axis, and "Cream" is aligned with "Vector, Espio and Charmy"... and "Chip".
