I picked up wrath of the righteous and am gonna play through it but I have a few questions
I've played some tabletop PF before, but not super versed in it. Is Core gonna cuck me or should I do an easier difficulty?
I've also heard you need like a buff autocaster or you just spend a lot of time fucking around with setting up buffs every day in game. Is that true?
I was thinking of playing a bloodrager, they any decent or should I try another class?
>>
>>544058240
Unless you enjoy getting really deep into the system, planning things out, reloading frequently, lots of start and stop I think a lower difficulty works better.
I'd even argue that using Toybox to modify things so it becomes less tedious is also useful. The game is a pretty big chore if you're used to other CRPGs.
>>
>>544058240
>buff autocaster
Its fine at first, you're just casting delay poison because little dretches keep farting everywhere. Then you start casting protection from alignment because it helps against succubi enchantments and hey the added AC is nice. Then you start tossing in protection from elements, fire maybe because you want someone to drop a fireball without worrying about crisping half the party, and you have to do this to every party member unless you have the communal version, and then you start thinking maybe this ability drain I keep being fucked up by is kindof annoying so everyone should get a death ward spell too...and so on.

Kingmaker had less bullshit thrown at you, in WotR there's a lot of status effects and irritations the demon type enemies cause so you end up just prebuffing every time you load into a new zone and after a while it gets really boring without the autobuffer.
>>
>>544058240
Core will give you a good challenge as a new player who doesn't understand the strong interactions yes. Yes, you'll die, but you aren't playing Ironman, and you won't ever get stuck or anything. You can adjust the difficulty midgame.
Download the addon "Bubblebuffs". It is so integrated with the game that it feels like it should be a base part of the game. No reason not to use it.
Bloodrager has multiple strong archetypes.
>>
>>544057431
So I can play with my 40dollies in pubic
>>
>>544058240
>Is Core gonna cuck me or should I do an easier difficulty?
I always recommend entirely new players to play on Normal. You can change it at any point (even mid-combat) and there are a lot of custom settings so you can find what fits how you want to play perfectly.

>I've also heard you need like a buff autocaster or you just spend a lot of time fucking around with setting up buffs every day in game. Is that true?
imo that's more for difficulties above Core. Or it's from butthurt people who are trying to play on Core (or higher) but should be playing lower.

>bloodrager
Anything's viable on Normal or Core, so sure. I tend to recommend a straightforward class for entirely new players, something martial or pure caster. Whenever you combine two areas of strength each part will necessarily be a little weaker. So while a gish might sound cool at first (martial? spellcasting? how about both!) there are some pretty major trade-offs. Same thing holds for the temptation of multiclassing.
If I were to do bloodrager I would only take buff spells and not even worry about trying to hit DC with anything, and just be kind of a self-buffing martial.
Again on Normal any class is viable.

In theory I don't mind most of that stuff but I can see how it would be annoying in practice.
>>544058808
I'll think on Core vs an easier difficulty I guess.
I'll get that mod, it doesn't sound like using it should ruin a new player experience.
Primalist seems the way to go if i use bloodrager right?
>>544059348
Thanks. Maybe I'll just try normal. Part of me feels wounded not going with Core to start with but if it's more for game/system veterans that makes sense. I just don't know if I'll be playing the game again to experience Core.
What would you recommend for a melee oriented character to start with?
>>
>>544058240
>I've also heard you need like a buff autocaster or you just spend a lot of time fucking around with setting up buffs every day in game. Is that true?
My last playthrough I decided to have a dedicated buffer and almost exclusively cast buffs in combat. It worked really nicely. I did some longterm ones in the beginning of the map but it was all of 15 seconds. Like, not everyone needs Barkskin or Death Ward or something. You don't need Resist Fire and Protection from Fire both, and not everyone needs it, etc.

Nothing's stopping you. Again you can change the difficulty anytime, even during combat. You can set custom settings too, there's a whole page of them, in case you want something a bit between Normal and Core, for instance.

One recommendation is Hunter: Tandem Executioner. It's one of the newer classes, and it has a pet. You get to choose synergy feats with your pet but lose the hunter spells (big whoop, they kind of suck) so it can be you and your animal wrecking in melee together.

Whew, actually hit a TPK in the Shadowrun: Hong Kong bonus campaign. Tougher combat than in the base campaign so far. Granted I went the "fuck all y'all" route and was fighting way too many people.
I could have used Shadow better, since I'm fighting against two sides who are also fighting each other. And elementals' Pacify ability. It's when reinforcements came that I knew I was finished.
>>
>>544060441
I know nothing's stopping me, so maybe I'll give it a try and worst case is I get butthurt and tone down the challenge. I'll look into that class but I only have the base game ATM.

Expedition 33.

2023 had an amazing showing with both bg3 and rogue trader, and 2025 was solid with Exp 33, but 2024 was a quiet year. 2026 is looking to be a close competition year with several big releases, including Solasta 2, Dark Heresy, new Arc Line, Clockwork Revolution, and Afterlight. Out of those, my money is on Dark Heresy, but it'll be the first year with actual competition in a while.

I don't recall if that class is in the base game.
Bloodrager is fine, it's just that instead of pure martial who worries about, generally, Str (for hitting/damage unless you go finesse), Dex (for some AC bonus), Con (health/fort)... You also now have Cha for your spellcasting. So while some of these don't have to be super high (if you go finesse then you can de-emphasize str, but also be aware of encumbrance, and it will be awhile until you can apply Dex to damage) and Con also affects how many times per day you can rage (later there is a way to perma-rage)

It's not a bad choice and doesn't overlap with any companions, it's just a bit more to be aware of than something like Two-Handed Fighter, or a Sorcerer who's like "I just burn everything", or a Wizard focusing primarily on one school.
Also even with those classes that might feel a little singular, there's a lot of possibility for differentiating your character with feats and equipment.

The one full caster you get as a companion is pretty unsufferable, so straight-up Wizard isn't a bad recommendation either. But if you want to do melee also consider Barbarian, very similar to Bloodrager but without the casting stuff. Barbarian's really fun, actually. (just don't take extra rage feats, there's something better later)

How are JRPGs not CRPGs? They're RPGs that you're playing on a computer.
>>
>>544056776
I don't hate leliana but she is a fantasy french bislut bard so I can understand why some people wouldn't like her. I thought her doing a casual racism against my dalish elf after her talking about how all the races should get along more was funny.
>>
>>544065634
We can also extend the definition of Computer, and what it means to play a role, so that Zelda on a Gameboy is a CRPG.

But nobody really thinks it is. Just like nobody thinks JRPGs are CRPGs. It's just a matter of not being autistic.

JRPG's will usually have a linear story with no choices that is told to you. You watch a fully animated and voice acted cutscene of Titus, Lightning, Luna, Fang, etc all talking to each other for important story bits. You sit back and watch a movie.

For CRPG, the palyer clicking on options in dialogue that lead to at least a couple different possible question resolutions or game endings is a core identifier for the different genres.

They both have parties of characters, character progression, classes, xp, items, etc so there are tons of overlap between the two genres and they're sibling genres you might say, but they are distinct.

Exp 33 fits the JRPG tag in all aspects except that it was actually made by french people lol. But I still include it in discussions of RPG's in general, because it is strong in many of the things modern audiences desire in a computer role-playing game, even if it has a linear story with cutscenes you watch for important story bits, instead of the crpg style player choices. Being anal about these slight genre definitions has never been important to most people, or with people who appreciate a good RPG regardless of genre quibbling, so it is the role-playing game of the year, without very much competition.
>>
>>544066669
There's romance in Stardew Valley, right? That would give it CRPGs most important feature, at least going by the most discussed subjects in this general.
>>
>>544063418
It's more of a CRPG than DE
>>
>>544066925
That's a very flimsy definition, so you think a JRPG magically becomes a CRPG if there is choice & consequences and a CRPG is suddenly a JRPG if it doesn't have it?
>>
>>544066938

>>
>>544067117
That's a reductionist version of what I said, that also misses the entire last part of what I said which is that minor quibbles over sibling genre definitions is pointless, but yeah basically. If important story bits are told to you with no input from you and you're sitting back watching a movie, then I would say that game has jrpg story design philosophy. If the game pauses and checks flags for things you done or said and gives you choices to make which lead to a different ending than another player got, then I would say that is more in line with western CRPG design philosophy. Pretty much.

Obviously there are going to be japanese style games with choices, and there are a million western rpg's that have no variation in storyline, but this is one of those general rules of thumb that will guide you when you are quibbling over minor genre definitions on the internet.

Personally, as I said, this sort of conversation is somewhat pointless, as sub-genres under the umbrella of Role-playing game are all hugely overlapping, and it's not like I'm going to block a JRPG developer from attending the role-playing game of the year awards if he made a damn good role-playing game that year. Exp33 is game of the year, as well as role-playing game of the year, and that doesn't change no matter how much people quibble over the differences between a WRPG CRPG or JRPG. They're all siblings.
>>
What if the story bits are told to you through walls of useless prose? A novel crammed into a few hours, perhaps?

Watched that chink's video linked last thread and I must say I'm hopeful for Dark Heresy after hearing some of the details.
Investigations aren't a seperate mini-game they seem to be just collecting clues from NPCs and world with being able to miss/gain some depending on your choices as well. Then looking through the investigation clue journal and along with asking input from companions you can draw your conclusions which can be right or wrong. So it's more or less a side quest system that comes with detective work. Morale system sounds good too and the archetypes changes where each class can specialize into branching paths that give their own bonuses and skills. I guess that's ehat they meant when anons here saw from an article that the talents "might be bundled". This should reduce talent bloat and not just throwing in filler skills.
The only thing I'm skeptical of is the claim that Owlcat knows the game is trivial past act 2 and will try to make it tougher and slower so it's not just one round clears. They did a bad job in 1.5. They made the game easier. The guys that played the demo at gamescom said they had a challenging fight while trying to rescue hostages and got their teeth kicked in, but who knows maybe those are game journo shitters.

Why do most people on here think WotR is the greatest RPG ever made when a good number of the feats/classes are either bugged (or the descriptions are mistranslated), the writing can be very verbose in that way translated Russian usually is, and there's many absolutely useless skills/feats (stealth is completely useless)? Is it because of build autism?

It's build autism. /crpgg/ has shifted over time away from "choices and consequences" in questing to "character building is most important." It reflects the overall change in what the crpg community considers important, or maybe it's a backlash to BG3.

Some people get angry because they feel like they're getting lied too, but I like the bugs/exploits. The game is an unreliable narrator, and it's up to you to piece together where it's being truthful or where it's trying to deceive you. It is very on brand for an Slavik tabletop roleplay, where the players and DM are competing against one another. The DM is actively trying to kill the party and may even "fudge" the rules to do it, and it's up to the players to rule lawyer or understand the rules better to stop him.

If im playing as a chaotic demon why would i care if killing the queen for insulting me is irrational? You guys are too stupid to reason with. If I am roleplaying as a chaotic demon there is ZERO reason I would accept the queen spitting in my face like that. I played the demo, it was short but I liked what I played. It's based on 1st Edition DnD, I think, never played that but class names indicates that with elves, dwarves and halflings being classes, wizard being called 'magic-user'. The devs have also written that the game is "inspired by classic D&D of the 80's" , and if you open the map in game it looks exactly like one of those old dnd dungeon maps.
I think the game would look better if it were in color though.

Here's a quick example. You know how the game tells you how you can't take two draconic bloodlines as a sorceror. It's lying. If you take seeker, you can pick another if you dip seeker. Then there's the ur example where cranestance works with two-handers, despite the description saying it requires a free-hand. It's one of the reasons everyone and their mom monkdips.

Galfrey doesn't betray you. You had to go into the abyss either way.
Meanwhile you did not need to get captured by drukhari, that was completely Yrliet's fault for not telling you anything.

Galfrey has a happy ending marriage route where you live happily ever after.
Meanwhile Yrliet doesn't stay with you, and never wants to even touch you.

Galfrey shows real human emotion and temporary character flaw because she's having an internal crisis over doing this for 100 years and accomplishing nothing, while you make strides in like a week. It's a realistic and understandable character flaw which increases her characterization, and she quicklty gets over it and falls in love with you.
Meanwhile, Yrliet is just racist and calls you and your crew monkies even if you repeatedly save her life and save the lives of her people. She's not relatable because she's simply stubborn about this.

Galfrey is so much better and it's not even close. You people are insane.

>After you forgive her she promises to never betray you again, but her first instinct on Quetza is to turn her gun on you if you tell the Eldar you are Theodora's heir and want to make things right. If you talk her into siding with you this fucks the romance

>She has 0 trust and repsect, she doesn't talk to you about crudarach shard nor marz info nor achillies betrayal before it's too late depsite you helping her
>You are the only person that was trully nice to her, even more so than her oen people, she still won't even hug you, yet is willing to hook up eith Marz in corsair ending the Drukhari who slaughtered her people alongside his sister and antagonized her

As far as the wargame goes their armies can work together but they never make friends. Deldar are just too dangerous, and besides Leldar disapprove most strongly of the Deldar way of life
Yrliet's parents, had they not been blown up, would NOT be happy about her spending so much time with an evil deldar. They'd be more accepting of the mon-keigh because at least they could see that as a harmless short-term thing.

You have it backwards. She has simps BECAUSE she's a cunt, but she intersperses that with little crumbs of attention that hint at the possibility of affection, which never arrives. Her being an elf is completely besides the point.
It's all about the sunk cost fallacy. Her simps have expended so much emotional labor on her that they have to believe that it's worthwhile.

Marazhai being around has no effect at all on Yrliet's romance. He doesn't actually compete for her attention or anything.

He mentioned other things, but that's what you try to devolve the entire conversation to, ignoring any points and trying to force the notion that Yrliet's critics would forgive her is she had sex with the Rogue Trader. And I didn't say it isn't a problem said it is one of the many problems.
Why do you ignore everything said that isn't about Yrliet's denial of intimacy and fixate on that, trying to present the other people's positions as if that was the main contention? Could you answer any of the other objections put forth by anyone, not just him or me ITT but in general about why Yrliet fails as a character and Crafteorld Eldar?

Yrliet is a terrible character and since you're asking for examples, how about this?

How about part of her first quest, which is a great example of the problem with her writing in general. You come upon Eldar from Crudarach in a fleeing ship, and you can either leave them to die, blast them, or take them aboard your ship (assuming you pass the skill checks necessary to do so). Let's say you take the latter option, what happens after this is that the Eldar are bumrushed by lower deckers and killed anyway, which highlights the entire problem with how this is written.

The writer has decided that Yrliet needs to be traumatized and sad about both the fate of her people and the cruel, uncaring mon'keigh that victimize them, and they will get that result no matter what, but they don't do so organically, they don't reach this desired conclusion in a way that makes sense. Let's go over all the problems with this contrived scenario: The Eldar would almost certainly never take this deal to begin with, it is nonsensical and insane for them to go on a ship where best case scenario they will be eaten by Slaanesh on the journey through the warp. But let's say the RT is just THAT good at persuasion, or the Eldar are THAT desperate. Is the RT a fucking retard? Why does he not put security in place or simply make sure nobody knows they're on his ship to begin with? And third, how the FUCK are Craftworld Eldar getting bumrushed and killed by a bunch of lower decker scum when they would EASILY overpower thousands of them?

All of these problems are ignored and they just die anyway because the writer has decided that it is going to happen no matter what, and so it does. Very hamhanded, very inorganic, very BAD writing. And this is typical of Yrliets content in general.
>>
>>544088960
It means humans, but it's weird because she never refers to them that way elsewhere and it's not like she's immortal either. I think the ending slide guy got mixed up.
Ulfar refers to normal humans as mortals sometimes.

Deldar would be more interesting if they had a neutral attitude towards humans.
The whole "contemptible meat! you are scum" thing makes no sense. That's not how hunters are towards their prey, nor cattle ranchers towards livestock.
Have them be pleasant and even caring, but only so as to improve the quality of the pain essence when the human is slaughtered.
Deldar = kind but will torture you to death for sustenance
Leldar = rude and arrogant but won't actually eat you

Why did they move away from Drezen/Kenabres? What if your character was a city dude? What happened to all the accumulated riches?

As an aside, Paizo's vision of Kenabres and Drezen was a lot more impressive than Owlcat's. Owlcat's version looks much more like realistic medieval cities, while Paizo's were straight up fantasy cities with monumental architecture.

This is Froggy's old build for a demon illusionist. He has a breakdown for an effective DC 100 for Weird. Keep in mind this is before the Expanded Arsenal nerf, the whole stacking Spell Foci feats doesn't work anymore, but lots of the bonuses still work so you can reach similar DCs.

>>
>>544112616
It depends entirely on difficulty. On Core and below you can get away with pretty much anything. Hard does forgive a few "mistakes", but you need to compensate with strong builds. Even Unfair gets trivial after a certain point and you don't need to minmax to that degree, just look at Werglia's builds, he make tons of bad decisions and frankly his builds would struggle even on Core difficulty, but he still beats the game on Unfair thanks to things like juggling party members with Last Stand.

Froggy's autistic minmaxed builds exists just because of his extremely high standards for "beating the game", which means 1 rounding every boss on Unfair abusing things like Touch of Law to force enemies to roll an 11 and thus getting his spells to land.
>>
Froggy also couldn't handle the challenge of actual tactical games like playing me on OGS or BBO
There's really no actual intelligence involved in playing on Unfair, it's nothing to feel proud about, it's just autism.
>>
>>544112616
Froggy just had the autism and tunnels visions on one specific build being ‘viable’
He’d call a build with 4 rerolls and a minuscule chance of ever failing a dc roll shit because they don’t technically reach his high numbers autism
>>
>>544113209
I think the reason I find it unsatisfying is because a lot of these things feel hidden and buried. This isn't just a problem with Pathfinder's bloat, its worse in RT where there's no easy way to see what things are pre-reqs for later things or how they synergize.

And in WotR the mythic paths have stuff that aren't even in the books so you have to play the game over and over again to learn it all, but without actually enjoying the game organically.

>>544112868
I just feel like Core difficulty is the "real" one and anything less feels off somehow. Like if I reduce under Core I may as well just flip it right down to story mode or use toybox to autowin.

That's a reasonable first impression, but it just simply isn't how they did things.
You should think of Core as: "I already understand the PF mechanics and also I understand Owlcat's version of them"

It is what it is. New players should start on Normal. Or Core, it's fine, because you can switch at any time, or even introduce custom settings.

The real problem is every other game giving ass-pats to players for playing what should be "Normal" but calling it "AbYsSaL AnNhIlAtIoN" or something.
The fact that WotR offers a very high ceiling is a good thing imo. But you need to orient yourself to the perspective.
>>
>>544113723
Most of those mechanics were figured out later and by the whole community, and frankly, they're unneeded on Core as I said, the devs are most likely not even aware of 90% of the kind of shit you can pull off in their games. Froggy's builds also rely on a lot of exploits that got patched out later. I remember having discussions with him about how stacking Spell Foci is obviously unintended and he'd go on these huge tirades about the fact that it is in the game, therefore it's an intended mechanic or some nonsense like that, as if Owlcat games were perfectly balanced and completely bug free.
>>
>>544113125
while i'm inclined to agree, it's not like build means anything outside of combat and one throwaway reactivity line in the PF games

I think even on hard you'll have a pretty comfortable time without minmaxing for most of the game if you're willing to actually sit there reading through the feats. A lot of people really over complicate pathfinder builds.
I think the greater problem people run into is that they just want to make these minmaxed death ball combat builds instead of building a fully rounded out team. Literally just having one guy who can summon good can break a huge chunk of the encounters in the game and that's like three feats.

>>
>>544101167
Yeah. Your AC will be lower than a dex build, obviously, but you save a couple of feats and can take advantage of enlarge/legendary proportions so your dmg tends to be slightly higher. I had good fun with a str twf shield bash ranger when I played wrath.
>>
>>544115086
What do you think drove them to such terrible decisions?

One can read between the lines with InXile and Obisidian both owned by Microsoft and both shifting to first person, but that might be a naive perspective, I don't know anything about vtmb history though
>>
>>544115537
Adding on to this, the interview I posted with Brian Fargo has him clearly very happy with being at Microsoft. And they let the studio finish Wasteland 3, which is interesting. Still, I'm not entirely convinced there aren't some heavy hands involved in pushing "accessible trends".

But I also imagine the success of BG3 is a force of nature that's impossible to ignore for even the most myopic "never played a game in 20 years if ever" MBA types who do hold sway over creative decisions, unfortunately.
>>
>>544114920
They're just meat shields. Creeping doom is fucking ridiculous as always and you should get it and spam it if you can. The evil summons are the best regular summons but it doesn't really matter.
The game also gives you a bunch of items everywhere to buff up your summons. There's a belt in act 3 that'll summon a shadow demon every you cast a level 6 spell and it stays strong for a while.
Summons also get to take advantage of mark of justice if you have one.

I think the move with Ikon Tower, against both Fuchi and the other guys, is to get that shadowrunner on our side and head up towards the tower entrance. I keep moving down, and I do think utilizing Shadow works, and that spirit to summon is tempting, but moving up gives us more cover when the reinforcements come in on the left and right.
Still need to keep everyone close and use Shadow when possible to get them fighting each other, but moving down is just too open.

What the fuck do I do against the wolfweres in the ship in Tales of the Sword Coast?
I give everyone every buff we have, send in the tanks to the front, have the mages spam any wands we have, and we still get fucking obliterated with the wolves are still pretty much full health.

What's even the point of having all these special status effects and spells if none of them fucking work on anything other than the weakest enemies that you can just auto-attack to death anyway.

What year do these games stop pulling this shit? This reminds me a lot of the Morrowind DLCs where they didn't know how to make enemies hard for a max level character, so they just gave them all insane reflect, sanctuary, and armor so you did next to no damage.

>>
>>544123374
I did the upper tower and the island stuff, and they were great. I thought they were a pretty nice change of pace. It's seemed like almost every encounter since chapter 4 has been just trying to stop yourself from just getting insta-killed by the enemy mage using something to make your party non-functional while being resistant to most of your own methods of crowd control.

Does this get better as I go into BG2, Icewind Dale or other later games inspired by them?

>>544123783
hahahaha, no
>>
>>544123783
TotSC is an add-on, so keep that in mind. It's meant to be "harder than Sarevok".

No, BG2 does not continue with this kind of bullshit. And funny enough, Durlag's Tower is pretty great and a lot of people say it's one of the best CRPG dungeon crawls still to this day. But along side it you have this bullshit wolfwere dude who can't be hit by what, +4? I can't remember. Honestly just cheese it, cheat, do whatever, move on and never look back. It's just plain bad, and I say this as someone who loves BG1&2. The wolfwere shit is not worth it.

I'd say most people judge the characters based on a mixture of personality and combat efficiency. Most would probably like it the character is interesting and/or has a nice romance, but if they're very effective in combat, then the potential shortcomings in other areas usually won't stop people from using them and vice versa
Argenta for example is flat as fuck character wise, which is why you almost never see anyone talk about her as a character. Instead, people often talk about how much damage she can do, and therefore they don't mind that she has nothing interesting going on as a character

I'm still stuck on this quest. Backing out to an old save isn't an option because apparently my last permanent save was before doing other difficult side content (about 30 in-game days for what that's worth. I guess that boat ride took longer than I thought.)

How do I cheese the absolute fuck out of these guys? What works against them? How can I lure them out one at a time to zerg rush them individually, rest-spamming in between each?
The last few times I found a seemingly impossible encounter I abused potions of Stone Form and the best strength potion I could find, Gave them to the three tankiest party members, and had them go all ham while my wizard keeps summoning monsters from the background.
This time, I tried that and everyone got obliterated anyway. Even through the stone form, and the monsters I summoned didn't stand a chance. I also tried sending the main wizard in with every protection spell and potion I had, including a resist fire potion with the intent to just continuously cast Fireballs on everything. That didn't work either. I tried sending the thief in to stealthily take the spell book I'm looking for. Not only could I not find it, but she left stealth when trying to lockpick and got killed again.

If not all that, then is there a way off the island other than the one we actually do the quest to find? I get that it's the whole goal here, but I'm just ready to plunder the bottom half of Durlag's tower, beat the fuck out of Sarevok, and move on to the proper DLC.

Calcazar gets to make trade deals with Drukhari, uses a forge world to build a Ctan enslavement device, takes on a tomb world and then gets to capture a shard of the void dragon whilst also getting to backstab and do politcal bullshit at the same time. Did Owlcat not think that would make for a more compelling narrative for the MC then a shitty chaos cult plot that goes nowhere and being a janny for an Inquisitor? Meanwhile you get the privilege of dealing with Janus, Dargonus and Kiava Gamma because apparently despite being a great RT, Theodora is incapable of keeping her own affairs in order. She has a closet full of bdsm sex toys in her mansion, she says she "prefers the feel of a man inside her" when the player character is a woman, and she will often use sex as a way to get men alone to kill them, you even catch her doing this, and of course we are told that she is a regular customer at the brothel. If she were murdering the prostitutes every time, the person we learn that fact from probably wouldn't have said it in such a friendly way. The game very much establishes that she is sexually active.

bg3. There's a whole system for it, with appropriate naming. "9 blades" becomes "sixteen strikes" when you critically strike in the game, which is music notation reference for what you just did.
And of course songs for a party member going down or when you kill an important enemy and the like.

I'm considering getting OW2. I thought the first one was actually pretty boring. Not terrible but not good either. I didn't particularly like Avowed either, with a similar pattern. They don't make "bad" games, they're just middling with forgettable characters. So I had originally decided to not get their next game, but I'm hearing mostly good things about the upcoming one. I wouldn't mind a new game since I've already beaten rogue trader and bg3 and other recent crpg a bunch of times. But if it's just more of the same of OW1 then I would skip it.
>>
>>544148710
>very articulate
Not really a problem. The spell merely converts animal speech and thoughts into a language familiar to the caster, but that's more interpretation than literal translation. A dog or cat might say, "I am starving, master," which is more useful than "me hungry" or baby speak. The spell doesn't grant them intelligence comparable to humans. They remain blissfully unaware of the future and how bad things really are.

Is there anything more cucked than getting a stand-in dolly to smooch and fuck your waifu?
Think about it. You spend all this time getting your stuntman-dolly just perfect and hoping that your desired romantic partner will be into him. You're basically asking to watch while your "MC" does what you can't.
The worst part is that it's even lower than actual cucking, it's cucking yourself with virtual dolls. If you can't see how bad this is then you're already too far gone.

Do you think if it were up to him, that your MC would let you watch or no?
Do you think "your" waifu would even be interested in you even?
I bet if he knew how much you wanted to watch, your MC would completely lose all respect for you.

>A hands-off demo at Gamescom picked up at the isometric role-playing game’s 15-hour mark, with the Inquisitor leading a five-person party investigating a series of disappearances on Scintilla, a planet in the Calixis Sector where the corrupting power of Chaos has already taken hold. You’re also seeking to unlock the larger mystery of the Tyrant Star, a mysterious planet-killing force from ancient times. Hope is lost for the people of Scintilla, but at least you can get some answers for the Imperium.

Everything is like your bog standard western narrative game, right down to the generic designs, style of writing, trying to be arty farty, bland music, etc. The combat is bad for multiple reasons and is actively worse than games that came before it like Shadow Hearts that also went for more active timing based combat. The writing is bad throughout, but gets progressively worse along with the story shitting itself more and more. Then at the end it pulls the 'it was all fake/a dream' shit but tries to tell you that the fake shit was totally not fake in the worst ways possible.
It's the most normiecore game I've ever played.

>>
>>544171929
>A highly trained bodyguard
lol that isn't what he was. He's a young inexperienced warrior that is on a rite of passage to become a man by proving he can protect a mage, which starts with him fucking up and wanting your help to save her from gnolls. He has no actual achievements and isn't anyone special.
Then in BG2 it starts with him failing again to protect Dynaheir with her dying.
His stupidity is never painted in a positive light and is a weakness played for comedy.
He is a very flawed and unremarkable character. It's through his journey with the Bhaalspawn he eventually becomes someone.
The backstory of the origin characters in BG3 is the equivalent of Minsc at the end of BG2:Throne of Bhaal.

>would be all as popular as the BG3 cast is
BG3's cast is fucking terrible though, so I don't see what you're driving at. Only Shadowheart, Laezel and Minthara are ok.

Except it doesn't. Since pretty much every single other RPG doesn't do what BG3 did since they don't use Origin characters and don't massively overbloat their backgrounds to be super special and powerful. You come across as someone that barely plays RPGs.

Take the Mass Effect series for example. Wrex, Garrus and Tali are all nothing special when you meet them. They don't have some insane backstories or go on about how super special they are. Yet they were all very popular companions and still are to this day.
You have no point, idiot.

Wrex was a nobody that became a big deal, which is different. He also wasn't painted up as anything special initially.
And the guy is trying to say that companions aren't popular, relevant or memorable unless they have some insanely bloated special snowflake background about how awesome and powerful they are.
That is by far the least important part of a companion being interesting and well-written or not. In fact, it was an outright detriment in BG3.
Karlach is infinitely less interesting Laezel, despite you not knowing much about her initially while Karlach starts by telling you how special she is right when you meet her.

>>
>>544177194
TWF is viable on any setting, especially if you get the feats for free. Demonslayer is one of the best martial classes for just mindlessly killing everything.

you feel that, like wrex, she should keep her glamorous past unspoken until you farm more simp points?

basically it sounds like you just don't like her personality. you are trying to convince yourself this is a problem with the game, when it's a problem with your head.
>>
>>544177482
Cool, I just want to do something slightly different from big ass sword or something. Guess I'll try to work out a build.
>>
>>544177268
amazing, a super special background that was effectively for its own sake instead of actually coming into play within the game
stellar example
>>
>>544177536
That's what happens when you flaunt the fact that you dislike your players by denying the romances to their faces in the trailer
>>
>>544177536
That clearly has less to do with the game being good or not or sales (since it isn't even officially out yet) but the fact that Microsoft is shutting down studios, canceling projects and laying people off across the board. They just waited to fire them so it wouldn't impact the game so close to release.
Internal rumors at Microsoft hint at even more mass layoffs coming next year.
>>
>>544177695
>so what's your issue? that karlach opens up too fast?
Reading is hard for you I see. I don't like repeating myself or engaging with illiterate people, since it means I'm wasting my time for no benefit. If that was my kink I'd go to the zoo and talk to monkeys.
>>
>>544176893
>>544177101
>n-nnnoooo you can't just have characters that don't have some fantastic backstory!!
>doesn't count ... because it doesn't ok!!
>>
>>544178064
>angry incoherent rambling
i got it right then. you do have a problem with your head.
>>
>>544177864
What are you talking about? We don't see Karlack fighting in the war, how good she is at killing demons, when she got the demon engine or anything like that. We're told all this. Then in the game she's a nothingburger character that farts around while you fetch some metal pieces to upgrade her heart.
>>
>>544177536
this is fine, they got to make the games they wanted to, which is more important
>>
>>544178242
Carefully explain to me why someone should engage with a person that can't read and understand what they're saying. Give me one good reason.
>>
>>544175453
>Holden Caulfield, with his secret wizard powers.
>Raskolnikov, the rich emperor with his endless trove of magical items.
>Bartleby the mutant scrivener with laser blasters for arms.
I would read these
>>
>>544178448
that's what i shoudl be saying. i wrote out a deliberate and accurate statement precisely outlining the observed reality. and your response was "y-you can't read!"

anon, i am both better at articulating and at reading than you are. i correctly identified your issue. if i'm wrong, say so, otherwise remain gratifyingly mute. i was already happy thatyou melted down, since this was basically an admission that you realized it. so if you want to add more, at least add something of substance, and not this embarrassing spurious nonsense about bad faith engagement
>>
>>544177536
With the body blow to rtwp combat(that they brought about when deadfire lost to dos 2) they entered a fork in the road. switch to turn based or take notes from SKYRIM for some reason.
>>
>>544178257
we see her being hunted down by people set upon her due to her backstory
we see her being the kill target of another origin character who has ties to her own boss
we see her resonate with the other tieflings who got the raw end of an unfair deal
we see her feud with gortash who sold her out in the past
we see her die in an ending because of the nature of her problem
i think you're being intentionally obtuse because of some tribalistic disdain for larian
>>
>>544177536
Oh yeah I forgot about this. Has anyone played this
>>
Will DH be action? This tb shit is so slowpaced.
>>
>>544178801
Answer the question.
I said things you clearly didn't understand or read. I am then forced to repeat myself. Why should anyone waste time on someone that either can't read or doesn't bother to read what they say? You can't answer that because there is no reason to engage with a person like that, because it's like talking to a wall.
You're even so delusional you think your reading comprehension is exceptional despite the fact that that the question you're asking has been answered multipe times already.

Whatever, you proved you're not qualified for basic discussion and is far too biased. You've emotionally attached yourself to BG3 and emotionally treat it like a personal insult when it's criticized.

Wrex is pretty shit in that regard. The only time a last second reveal like that is decent is if it repaints the previous interactions with them in a new light, ie Solas

30% profit margin? but poe2 reached this? josh said so?
>>
>it's another episode of baldurs gate 3 fanboys saying it's the best game ever with the best characters and writing ever

why settle for 30% when you can hit 30.5% by firing everyone on top of that
line must go up

no you see (hear) voiced dialogue

compare that to if you showed up to her fighting devils with no elaboration besides 'don't worry about it, old feud'

fails the show dont tell rule

what if---? no, it's everyone else who is wrong

Microsoft is the new EA, now that EA switched to the live services model and doesn't do this anymore. Buying every studio it can get its hands on, forcing them to release games no one wants for the nebulous mainstream audience, and then shutting them down and IP squatting.
>>
>>544179668
that's profit margin TARGET

obsidian hasnt hit that on anything but fallout new vegas
>>
>>544179501
>30% profit margin?
Xbox as a whole has to reach this, which is why they are cutting so many people and projects across the entirety of Xbox Blizzard Activision King.
>>
>>544179668
based.
i'd fire you for 50 basis points

>>
>>544179761
you're conflating two different things
where, in mass effect one, did wrex's special clan background impact events that played out?
if he was just some no name krogan, would anything have changed?
>>
>>544180103
yeah? what if it is?
what if films in general are a crap medium and it's mostly just old guys who had nothing better nostalgiafagging? and that minecraft movie actually is the best?

and, following that, what if bg3 is actually good?

being a contrarion is fun and all, but what if good things are, actually, good things?
>>
i think any retard who plays video games enough to post about them could tell you microsoft's misguided and overfunded acquisition of game developers was going to end like this.

these retards purchased xbox 360 exclusive anime games to 'break into japan'
>>
>>544180395
he was a no name merc. he got retconned to clan head then king of krogan in 3
>>
>>544180526
The attempt to appeal to Japan paid off for gamers who didn't have Playstations, even if it didn't pay of for Microsoft. In fact, we got Mushihimesama Futari and Playstation didn't. Different situation than the current one of trying to literally buy every studio they could get their hands on for reasons.
>>
>>544180526
microsoft hire this man
>>
>>544180395
it had effects later on in the trilogy.
the game was never intended to be self-contained in the first place, so it's find if something that happened in 1 was meant to have consequences in 2 or 3.

and isn't there a fourth one? i never played that since i was a bit disappointed in 3

>>

I like the world and the general writing is good, though the companions are a bit of a mixed bag
I've never liked RTWP combat, and Pillars didn't make me like it any more
>>
>>544181343

>>
>B-BROS OUR PROFIT MARGINS
remember when every discussion about video games wasn’t just autists larping as billionaire ceos
>>
>>544181230
It seems to be polarizing here, but the anons who don't like it come across to me as exaggerating or just angry about Obsidian/Sawyer for some reason. There are legit complaints but they act like Pillars ran over their dog.

I think it holds up, yeah. The major things to know are:
Don't dump stats, every stat helps every character. So yes emphasize some obviously but dumping something you don't think you'll need will likely hurt you bad as a new player.
Ignore the gold-plated NPCs, they are backer content, completely unrelated, and universally despised.
The combat itself is fun and feels good, but the encounter design is like someone decided there was an encounter quota per map so it can feel a bit "Ahh, another group of enemies 10 meters away". Deadfire got better at this.
I guess the final thing, at the beginning you're weak so if you're struggling it might make sense to head to a town to maybe meet a couple companions.
>>
>>544181897
what's a solid class?
>>
Bake the thread, threadbaker
>>
next thread topic better not be pillarshill or bg3slop or wrex
>>
>>544182213
Depends how you like to play. Every class is represented if you count the DLC (and you should, many have the opinion it's even better than the base game), but the latest ones (DLC) are Rogue, Monk, and Barbarian. Paladin and Cipher are also a bit later.

You can also double up on classes though, one fighter can play very differently from another fighter, or rogue, or whatever.
Cipher makes sense for the story and is a pretty fun class. You can be ranged or melee cipher too per your preference.

>>544182213
It’s cipher. It’s always cipher.
>>
>>544182547
so. only cipher stands out?
>>
>>544182895
I don't know what you're asking. It depends how you like to play, and I don't know anything about you. Cipher's fun, thematic to the story, and the cipher companion you do come across isn't until a bit into the game, so it's a general recommendation.
>>
>>544182213
Muscle wizard
Summon big magical stick, beat the shit out of people with it
>>
>>544182895
It’s more that cipher is strong, thematic, and a class you don’t usually get in other crpgs. Chanter is also pretty neat but it’s more of a support class.
>>
>>544183090
i see. so think about what loot drops, which abilities the pc player gets, at what time do these unlock, which encounters are deadly, what parts are fun or satisfying but locked behind abilities, which abilities work well with the game interface...

just quickly weigh it in your head for all the classes and which are solid across all factors?

no need to make guesses about my preferences, you have no way of knowing them anyway. answer from your experience
