You can look at any page in IDW and see what she was thinking when she drew it. Here is Evan's way of portraying that "Sonic isn't a hero, he does what he wants" by having him mindlessly attempt to kill Belle because she is an Eggman robot. Nevermind that Sonic X and Sonic Battle show that he doesn't attack harmless Eggman robots. Evan really does portray based on her own interpretation of the games she remembers playing. Ian bases the characterizations off of what he THINKS they SHOULD be which is why he will exaggerate how much of an asshole Shadow is out of frustration with Sega not making him a friendly but gruff GUN agent like he wants.
