So if you think about it, there's a sort of pipeline for species to become distinct. A normal species would experience some external change like hyper/apex/frenzy and adapt internally to survive eventually becoming something akin to a deviant. If the conditions continue, enough of those changed monsters would exist for that deviant to inevitably become considered a rare species and once they're common enough simply considered a subspecies. Variants are obviously not part of this pipeline because the differences are internal. So like this: Process 1 - normal > hyper/apex/frenzy > deviant > rare species > subspecies Process 2 - normal > variant
