FGO, or rather Fate as a whole, is lucky that with its concept you can write an infinite amount of stories. They could literally milk it for another 15+ years. But it's also a curse. The only major problem is that competent writers are needed to deliver a somewhat orginal story that is fun and well written overall. And if they decide to truly end it all i imagine it's very difficult to make a conclusion from such a big story that makes sense and feels good.

So now it's actually concretely done with Arc 2, but we also know more content is coming, here's the big question - Valentines/Foreigner chapter, will they be in some limbo time state set before the finale, or will they be set after?I think Valentines and any other events for a while will be set before the finale. Not that hard to just write them like a lot of other events that don't reference main story content. It's not too different from how a lot of events were written like we were still in Chaldea base even when we were well into the Lostbelt story.Foreigner plotline is weird because they are possibly the only actual entities that could actually escape the universe reset unaffected. I'm convinced that most people who are surprised by the ending are people who've never played F/GO because F/GO's writing has never been particularly good and we've known even since LB3 that Nasu and the overall plot of Marisbury was seemingly going nowhere and it had been way too long leaving open questions.LB5 practically saved the overarching plot no because it was well-written but because it actually mentioned it in the most direct way in years. Traum's a decent chapter and it felt somewhat impactful for the same reason, and LB7 isn't good and is a hilarious case of needing to do step-by-step isolated story telling with one or two lines to drop foreshadowing.I wouldn't even say the ending situation is that particularly bad. I've seen crazy comparisons to Evangelion's ending which makes no sense at all, they aren't even remotely similar in what the point of them are and as flimsy as I think Evangelion is written (especially the rebuilds), the ending has more meaning to it while F/GO just ends the story for guda and mash without any meaning to it other than giving them a happy ending.It is the exact ending I expected from F/GO. Anything you could take from the Grand Order plot was from Marisbury and Mash.
