I was curious about the popularity of /crpgg/ over time and thought I'd share some results. Thread count per year since 2020:

So the general didn't really come alive until 2023, and really took off in 2024.
2025 was the year of decline in quality, I don't think you can maintain nearly 300 threads a year without heavy shitposting.

>Dercius during his quest
That quest bugged out for me. The dude bolted for the camp during the attack, and the attackers never left, They are just hanging outside the good sister's camp now. So does the designated escape area, and i can't talk to the sister about it, or to the guy
>>
>>552260587
Absolutely not. Wotr act 5 at least had 2 good dungeons in it. rt literally has nothing
>>
>>552261347
Well how? I don't get a chance. It's a cutscene.
>>552261235
Way out on the edge of the Brown Marsh, there's a box you can peer at and stick your finger in (don't do it). Well, the Baron puts you in contact with a young escapee from the Cult who gives you a relic finger bone. You can stick this in the box and it activates. However it requires you to recite a poem about Saint Scintilla, and to have access to the correct lines you need to show the finger bone to Sister Septima, who gives you a psalm book containing the relevant poem. Then when you activate the box, it opens up the tomb.
>>
>>552261589
Oh yeah, I know where that hole is, I just need the bone, thanks
>>
>>552261750
Correction, to get the psalm book you just need to ask the sister about St Scintilla. Might need to try activating the box first. Showing her the finger bone doesn't get you anything from her, but showing it to the merchant in that camp gives you a clue that the bone unlocks the tomb

>>
Am I too retarded for Dark Heresy or if the game just clanky? I'm used to puzzle games but generally those present you with all the info and you have to figure out the links yourself. Now you get that silly investigation board, but you lack hints. For example you have those "images from the past reconstruction devices" but can't seem to see how many you have in your inventory, so I kept running around the map thinking 3 was enough and never found where to put the fourth. You go get Cog and you have a signal from his owner or shit and then it dies out??? Ok bitch what do you want me to do now? You get the message once
>teheee no more signal
and that's it. What am I supposed to do now, nigger?

>>
>>552261504
>>552262952
If you don't go for the secret ending, WOTR's last act has very little to do, even if you have all the companions. To me, going from WOTR's Act 4 to Act 5 feels worse than going from RT's Act 3 to Act 4.
In RT you do a lot of shit, and while the systems past the gate are pretty empty if you don't have Ulfar and Marzipan, it still feels better to me than WOTR's endgame.
Granted, I do prefer the overall act of going from place to place in RT, so perhaps I'm just biased.

Depends on your needs and situation, I suppose. Couldn't get back into DOS2 when I tried to replay it, so based on that, I'd recommend replaying Rogue Trader.
If you haven't experienced all the companion stories yet in DOS2 or are just in the mood for a more fantasy-oriented game, then replay that.

For shorter CRPG give Shadowrun Dragonfall and Shadowrun Hong Kong a shot (Shadowrun Returns is also real short, but that's more of a prototype). Great stories, but they have limited scope and exploration which makes them much shorter.

>>552298304
Aragorn is one of the Dunedain, who are called the "elf-friends" and because of that have longer lifespans. They're elf-fuckers who produce half-breeds and that's why they live longer and are more skilled than normal humans and can fuck elf princesses like Elrond's daughter.

Beren and Luthien have one daughter, Elwing, and she has Elrond and Elros. Elrond eventually has Arwen, Elros decided to stay hanging around humans and from him come the human kinds Aragorn is directly descended from. So its a bit removed but they are cousins.

>You get the message once
>teheee no more signal
Is that in the swamp following the radio beacon? It's glitchy. When the signal dies there's supposed to be a body right there but it takes a minute to spawn. Basically everything works but unreliably.
I've also found the detective journal could use work. I was hesitating on clicking "accept" on the hypotheses because I thought that would commit me. Eventually I clicked one and it created a logical link between two nodes which helped me progress. So you do need to "accept" findings once you're pretty sure. I think you can remove them at any time so no risk

i did that battle with all the sliders turned up by staying on the upper level/bridge near the cogitator and just killing anything that came up. this didn't work that well when it was just demons left, but it was a slow battle of attrition until the level collapses, and you win by default. i assume the demons keep appearing until the level collapses, and you can't win outright by battle.
>>
>>552289791
It's great, all the background lore is explained naturally via tooltips. I would at least get the Void Shadows DLC. It's fully integrated into the main game and adds a lot.
I would suggest turning up combat animation speed, it's a bit slow by default.

Romance is good. It's on the right track too by focusing on characters and how they perceive your actions and their place in the world.

>save village from gobbos
>save your waifu's village from gobbos
are not the same even though mechanically they are.

Of course developers can easily mess it up by removing the characters part and just dropping a few "player-sexual" dolls but hey that's the way it is with shit and diamonds.

>>552312670
CRPGs would be better if they had fully fleshed out romances, complete with explicit sex scenes tied to game mechanics. You can have well-written characters AND fantasy wish-fulfillment indulgent pandering, people just lack vision and the strength of will to get over their biases about pornography. It won't elevate as an art form until they do. Yes, my CRPG will show orcs raiding a human village and uh... "creating" half-orcs. No, this does not mean my CRPG is disgusting hentai pandering. Such an event is absolutely necessary for character development. Expand your mind.

Finally finished a Rogue Trader run after letting it sit for a bit to get bug fixes and DLC
Its a fun ride overall, I enjoy it far more than WotR, but even now its still a bit buggy.

I have that itch to do another run but a few thoughts I have.
1. The game seems to expect you to be executing/dismissing partymembers as you almost seem to get too many people to really focus on for multiple locations.
2. The game really wasn't built for Ulfar, he's just too big for most maps and a fair amount of Jank involves him.
3. The story turns into a mess because of chapter 3. Someone on the team very clearly has a hardon for the Eldar and wanted them to be very involved but Chapter 3 in particular just disrupts the flow of the story so much that Chapter 4 feels more like 'cleanup' than heading into the final fight.

I'm hoping they dial things back a bit for Dark Heresy
>>
>>552322649
Yeah but so is Regill and he's like my right hand man.
>>
>>552282420
Malachor V still feels like a fever dream, all fragmentary bits and pieces but it is kind of satisfying now.
Did you get the Droid Planet addon too? Where you're talking to droids trying to solve their little problem. Not the HK-47 factory, that's different.
>>
>>552318649
to start pathfinder games
I got filtered a few years ago by them being turn-based
>>
>>552323119
>Chapter 4 feels more like 'cleanup'
That's true. I felt like I was sweeping up all the leftovers, mainly companion quests.
>>
>>552323119
I wish the entire Comorragh chapter and everything after were actually just a separate game or two. The storylines even start to feel a little disjointed compared to the first acts with full blown necrons in the finale that deserved their own installment too.

Rogue Trader could've been a chaos storyline, RT2 could've been a deldar story nd RT3 a necron story.
>>
>>552323119
that's more of a problem with act 4 than act 3. i enjoyed the rape dimension trip but the necron stuff and the resolution to main quest felt rushed.
>>
>>552321152
What game?
>>
>>552323802
RT should have been a necron storyline. The expanse is the realm of ancient alien horrors, we don't need Uralon the Fool making a nuisance of himself. DH is better suited to a chaos storyline.
>>
>>552323828
>that's more of a problem with act 4 than act 3
No it's not. Chapter 3 is terrble, out of place, destroys pacing
>>
>>552324098
i disagree.
>>
>>552324174
You WHAT
>>
>>552323775
It did, its basically companion quests and seeing what Chorda and Winterscale are up to before going to just finish the cultists.

>>552323802
I can see the Necron throughline if you weave it in a bit more by having them pop up by I do agree that this story needed to be Chaos focused.
DE should've been just enemies you see for side quests, in space, or as random encounters instead of what is a major antagonistic party for about two-ish chapters.
I very much feel that someone on the team REALLY wanted to involve the eldar far more than they should have for this narrative.

>>552323828
So I like Act 3 in a vaccum, its a need idea.
The problem is that Act 3 is a departure from the rest of what you are doing so you can't build UP to the Necrons or focus on the cultists.
Act 3 robs the ability to build into Act 4 OR spread out the story a bit so Act 4 can breathe.
>>
>>552324271
i say you are wrong! well, not entirely, act 3 is meant to be an interruption and mess up some of the stuff set up in act 2 but the act itself is fine. sometimes shit gets interrupted. yes, it's annoying in games when you go to the obligated "your shit just stolen and you are in prison" level but there is a lot of nice character development in commerragh. they could have easily not had a bunch of time pass when you get out and still let you resolve stuff like the rogue trader disputes and get more time with calcazar.
>>552324567
owlcat just need more time to cook, so the placement of act 3 makes more sense.
>>
>>552324908
>"your shit just stolen and you are in prison" level
I really enjoy these levels, all the way back to Deus Ex.
I liked Cumrag, and finding out where I am and what everyone else has gotten themselves into,
>>
>>552324908
More time is always the answer but in this instance where time remains a factor, I would almost say cut Chapter 3 and use it to instead show more of the Brewing Rogue Trader war and deal with the cult on some other planets.
In a perfect world they'd have more time to build into Act 3 and then into a smoother act 4 transition but as is? Its just this massive derailment I don't feel the plot recovers from.

That being said, for the next run I'm torn between trying Melee Argenta or doing a Flamer build.
>>

I don't mind having moments where the player is bamboozled or put on the backfoot, but RT did it in one of the most contrived and idiotic way that made theses otherwise sensible characters look like utter retards for walking into an obvious trap. its kinda a bigger issue with the game as a whole that the rogue trader doesn't walk around with an extra 2 dozen bodies as a hired death squad funded by the filthy deep pockets that a rogue trader ought to have.

>>
>>552333805
The difference is that BG2 is relatively grounded. You have some comic relief that does become grating with characters like Minsc and Jan, you have talking swords, and you have some pop culture references, but all these things are moments of levity that you can mostly ignore. I didn't bother with Minsc or the "funny" gnome on subsequent playthroughs. Whereas DOS2 had this irreverent and equally grating Whedonesque style of humor that is unfunny, immersion-breaking, and pervasive thus impossible to ignore. A fantasy game shouldn't be grimdark super serious, but aim for a balance. Serious moments shouldn't be undermined because you expect every other NPC to make a stupid joke or quip. Also, Minsc is just a moron. He's not a talking skeleton or the "red prince" of scalies.
>>
Who killed the agent nigga in the kroot camp in DH. My current prime suspects are the warshaper(hid the kroot corpses was being spied on by agent) or his brother (hiding a fresh injury)
>>
>>552335381
I figure it's the non-warshaper, flesh shaper I think he's called. For a few reasons
1) agent was surprised in his last moments, which he would not be with the war shaper who hated him
2) flesh shaper is injured and trying to hide it
3) agent to get the Kroot hooked on sea-goo, which the flesh shaper would have found out about and would not tolerate
>>
>>552335354
Red Prince and Fane are played completely straight in their actual story content
>>
>>552336760
That's the problem. You can't take the game seriously because of that.
>>
>>552336883
So they’re not joke characters and you can’t take the game seriously because they’re joke characters but actually they’re not and that’s bad

From an in-universe perspective, they're not joke characters. From an out-of-universe perspective, they feel like joke characters because Swen just wanted a wacky talking skeleton and an aristocratic scalie with a posh accent. Do you understand the nuance there? Minsc is just your average dumb not-barbarian. No one thinks Minsc is just there because a writer wanted him there. If instead of Haer'Dalis, there were a kobold bard companion that was played straight, how would that make you feel? Could you take the companion seriously?

I'm largely playing it up as a joke but even in that passage it shows 40k morality in general.
At best, the eldar would consider a human akin to an overly intelligent ape, stupid, sometimes useful but not quite 'at their level'.
At worst the eldar see humans as just dangerous beats.
But its 40k, where "They are different, go kill them" is state enforced by and large for a reason.

Add lying to the list I guess. You're the worst one here, Idira.

Ok, I did bounty hunter last run and it felt 'fine' but I almost wonder if another class would work for variety's sake.
I did bounty hunter Argenta and she works decently well if you put that Single Shot necklace on her to just dump out auto-hits.
Idira....I don't feel overseer on her.

It's honestly quite hard to tell which one of them might have done it, since the Fleshshaper hides what kind of injury he has (we know that the laspistol must have given them a pretty bad burn), and the Warshaper is riddled with so many scars + he just fought with us against his deranged kin, so it's hard to say if any of his burns are from our colleague.
I ended up accusing the Warshaper, as he never liked the agent unlike the Fleshshaper.

in the alpha not really, but in the full game i imagine accusing or not accusing certain people will have rewards or consequences in-game beyond the ending slides for chapters. the ending slides differ slightly as well. i think you will be able to accuse the 'wrong' people intentionally to change stuff in the full game.

Idira had a perils that killed her from full and spawned three blue horrors that killed us. Okay so im back and will finally be able to sit down and play for the rest of the week and next week
I'm the guy that was deciding between mage (girl) and warrior (man), I did the intro all the way the tower when the battle starts, mage, seems fun and broken but in a good way, warrior seem clunky as fuck and everyone keeps dying and don't know how to heal the concussions and stuff, but dunno if it gets better later with more party members and levels,

Also how important are choices in the long run for other games? I know you don't play the same character so there's that, but Im playing this game so I can feel good about playing the 3rd one, dunno if Ill skip the second one

If you've never played any, then I'd recommend starting with something considered relatively easy to get to grips with.
My first was DOS2, but many other modern ones like Rogue Trader, PoE or the Expedition games are relatively easy to get into as well. Nothing wrong with starting with more complex or older stuff like Pathfinder or BG1, but Pathfinder has a lot to learn at first, and BG1 uses an older edition of DnD not familiar to most these days

Based on what some people on Fextralife are saying, it seems to be pretty iffy on parries, but usually works on crits

Even with two chances on the same turn he just sits there not doing it.

>>552374183
A pistol in the offhand works some portion of the time, like maybe 1/4th of the time. He's pretty consistently not doing it though. But doing it at all over 0% of the time means that a pistol is supposed to work.
He has a chainsword and a stub revolver, and his second weapon set is just the power pick from the freight line by itself.

I'm going to go ahead and mention it in a bug report. I was waiting to see if it was something on my end like he was getting stunned or was out of ammo or some variable but I've tested it over the entirety of Rykad Minoris fights and bonus fights and that's enough to see the pattern. It's not working on parries, but works most of the time on crits.

>>552374967

>>
>>552374654
I don't mind. It's still a crpg, recently started getting into them, they are peak comfy
>>
>>552374967
You certainly can, which is what I did many years ago. I enjoyed it just fine. The introductory cinematic summarises the events of BG1 quite adequately.
It might be a little jarring to be introduced to the characters without knowing them already.
But the characters are hardly fleshed out at all in BG1 compared to 2 so you aren't actually missing much.
Imagine watching Mad Max 2 without watching 1. It works perfectly fine since the tone is quite different, but if you have time you might prefer to start with 1.
>>
>>552375029
nvm I think it's just in the warp event
>>
>>552375486
>the story continues basically straight from where BG1 left off,
It must be one guy repeating this because it's very misleading. The story of 1 is over, it's finished. I mean come on, be honest with people. There's a new antagonist, a new situation, and a new location. The only thing in common is your personal backstory and your companions.

I just got to Draconis in Throne of Bhaal.
Just curious what strategy any of you used to beat his dragon form.
I tried putting one tank as live bait with the rest of the party killing the human form from a distance, but he just ends up buffeting him back, and then insta-killing most of the party before I can even cast a lower resistance or time stop.

I'm trying to go for the good old Lower Resistance X3, then feeblemind combo. But unfortunately, my guy with Time stop can't use Lower Resistance, so I've got to tag team with Imoen.

At one point, I thought I could beat the system by putting feeblemind on the human form so he would still be tard-ified in dragon form, but I don't think it works like that.

I haven't put an insane amount of tries into it yet, but I'm just curious of what some of you tried.
>>
>>552374967
BG2 is a direct continuation of 1. But the important continuing plot points of 1 can be easily summarized in a paragraph. The main moment to moment plot of 1, the Iron Crisis and the Iron Throne, gets resolved and has no impact going forward. Much of what you're doing in BG1 aside from that is generic adventuring and monster slaying. The importance of You, Sarevok, and Bhaal are the only elements you need to understand going forward. And BG2 makes sure to introduce that with the tutorial area. You'll wonder who the people you find nearby are, since a few companions carry over between games, but the game has a kind of semi-amnesia option built in and lets you ask "Who the fuck are you?" right at the start. Aside from that, all you're missing out on is extra context from the occasional cameo of other BG1 companions turned into quest NPCs.

That said, BG1 is fun game in it's own right. It's just exploration focused with simpler combat rather than narrative focused with more complex combat. I enjoy replaying the whole thing except for Durlag's Tower basement level 2.

If you mean the one where he refers to the other person as "my starlight" then yes, I encountered him after Ra'akhti
Though I don't think it's supposed to be his younger self, more likely a placeholder for now. It also answered something to Laarthyr afterwards, but it was just [redacted], which I actually saw a few times during the Alpha, so I reckon much of it is still placeholder and/or missing

You can find her in a pile of Kroot corpses by the water on the bottome left corner of the Mechanical Tree part of the map, pretty close to the tomb. If you're lost, you should be able to find it by hugging the left-hand side of the map from the place from which you enter the area
You can follow some footprints there, or just go there yourself. You probably need to pass a perception check though, as the pile of corpses is highlighted.

Thankfully you can get the same/similar results by telling the hunter where you found his wife, since he wants to collect her strands, meaning he eats her corpse
>>
>>552390779
In my version she was quite willing to eat it, because I "went to the spires first" and in the meantime she had gotten pretty sick of being banned from eating the flesh of her kin because she has cooties or whatever.
I still haven't finished recruiting her
>>
>>552390981
I see, I went with the stable aquatic situation (i. e. didn't go to the Spires first), and she was very adamantly against eating her kin
I do wonder how they'll make going to the Spires first a tempting choice, since based on the Alpha, the Spires seem to give you two levels and two companions, but that doesn't seem worth the worsened state of the Alpha's area, especially since you get three companions down there

Try reading ahead to subsequent levels and seeing what comes next. You'll find that it starts to make sense and you notice the way abilities feed back on each other and amplify.
For example the bladedancer can use Medicae for as a combat stat, greatly boosting damage. You can see this by inspecting the choices at higher levels
If all else fails read a guide to see what they do
>>
>>552391278
If you're willing to spend a bit longer at the beginning while levelling up, it's a good idea to read through all the feats and try to find the ones that seem to synergise with your build and/or give you the ability to do what you want

>>552391336
The stable version is pretty chill, the Baron and Kubi (or whatever the name of that diver lass was) are basically the only (local) NPCs who are actively worried about the next sea quake. The place just feels pretty Lovecraftian and you get a feeling that everyone knows that another quake is coming, but they're just trying to live without thinking about it.

It all started when I was a young boy watching cartoons on a Saturday night. Toonami had just come on, and after a day of watching various contemporary slapstick cartoons the cool 3d robot man had refreshed by mind and got my attention.
Then they played Spirited Away, and the weight of a properly animated movie with exotic fantasy aspects crushed my tiny fragile mind. Ever since then my imagination has found reality to be abhorrently lacking, driving me further into reading, watching, and playing fantastical fiction. This of course made me an awkward and easily bullied target throughout school, despite having already being 5'10" in the 6th grade. This had a significantly negative impact on my social development which initially led to semi-edgy loner tendencies, then to an embarassing phase in an subject related to an unmentionable board here, and finally just becoming a video game nerd.
Then I went to college for a really stupid degree, changed degrees, graduated early, and now live with my parents while working a boring office job and hobbying with an abhorrent number of Warhammer miniatures.
Also one of my earliest remembered games is KOTOR, which is probably in some strange way what led to me being here.
Anyways I hate Yrliet and consider her to be a direct insult to Eldar as a faction.

Fun in what way? immersion, combat, story?
The "best" in terms of feeling like it's the "intended" route and has the whole package is Angel and it's not particularly close.
Aeon also works fairly well but it's better as a second playthrough path imo.
Haven't tried Azata so can't comment.
Demon is the evil counterpart to Angel and is probably the most fleshed out Evil route.
Lich is extremely fun in combat but feels a bit lacking in the immersion side.
Trickster can't comment on.
Late game paths are all memes so don't do them on first playthrough unless you're really into the concept.
Also highly recommend NOT doing secret path on your first playthrough.
>>
>>552400669
Depends on your definition of fun
Trickster is memey and has a lot of zany stuff going on, as does Azata I don't like either of them due to that
Angel was fun to play, and there's joy to be had with Demon if you lean into the angry, raging brute thing
>>

>>
>>552401227

also, owlcat's programmers are ...not the best
>>
>>552401227
Rogue Trader is already breaking apart at the seams in a flat 2d game.
If you ever played WotR, any map that's bigger than a small square like Drezen, Kenabres Market, Lost Chapel etc runs like complete ass. Unity isn't a particularly great engine for CRPGs. Just compare to Larian's games. DOS2's Act 1 or BG3 Act 1 basically has almost seamless maps whose size Owlcat never would be able to achieve on Unity.
>>
I wish that another CRPG like Dragon Age: Origins would come along. That game was so damn solid.
If only Bioware didn't seppuku itself.
>>
>>552402172
Yeah I really miss those 3 classes with no tactical depth and that uninspired worldbuilding and the Joss Whedon dialogue and that Fade section and the endless Deep Road trash mobs and those shitty DLCs and that crappy expansion pack and who could forget those dreadful sequels

Can we be honest and admit the game isn't that good?
>>
>>552400669
Demon imo, great mix of fun and serious plot
Angel also great just more on the serious side
I heard Aeon is also interesting just also very serious about it
Azata and Trickster seemed like the very silly side of "fun" which was a bit too much for me so I didn't finish a playthrough with them

I really don't understand so many people recommending to skip BG1. They're not THAT drastically different, BG2 came out 2 years later, same engine, same mechanics, all that.

If you like BG2 you will almost certainly like BG1 and vice versa. It seems so bizarre to me that so many people suggest to skip 1. In some ways I think it's the more enjoyable of the two in fact: better feeling of open exploration, more interesting narrative arc imo. I've heard others share this opinion too so it's not like completely universal that BG2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BG1 or something.
It just always seems strange to me.
>>

It's enjoyable if it's the first CRPG you ever play. Compared to the CRPGs that came after it, it's lacking in a tonne of things that people like. Hell its sequel blows it out in practically every single department.
BG1 is only really worth playing as a history piece. BG2 is worth playing because it's still a good fucking game.
>>
>>552406946
>>552407637
low level-only adventures are not enjoyable

>>
>>552408475
That's your opinion. I still prefer BG1 over BG2 and in fact stopped my recent replay only a bit after starting BG2. The plot is thin and immediately thrown in your face, Irenicus is way overvalued as a villain, besides the initial jumble of quests thrown at you the game is a linear railroad, there's no sense of exploration just "go to this place".
It's a great game for sure, but people hold it on too high a pedastal especially when minimizing BG1. I sometimes wonder if people don't even realize that they're the same engine and art and everything, and play basically exactly the same.

Isn't this more of a "disposition" thing where if you pick certain lines you get different animations? I think this is the CE animation.
>>
>>552419740
No because casting time significantly cuts into the duration of buffs. You generally have maybe 1-2 very long lasting ones like mage armor or stoneskin or something, and if you're in a place you know is dangerous maybe throw an extra thing on. But buffing is generally during combat (this is a very common use for Sanctuary for instance) or directly before.

Honestly a case where I prefer using AI filtered portraits to make BG1 and BG2 portraits more cohesive while still maintaining the overall design of each. It also makes it much easier to find a player character portrait that stylistically fits with everyone else on the UI. I always hated when people would use photos or anime art with the BG2 companion portraits.

It's an abstraction. When your dynasty hits a certain wealth threshold, your dynasty as an entity trades various assets with the entity the vendor represents, and you personally can just take all of the stuff at that profit factor threshold as part of that relationship.

I do like that they tried something different, but at the end of the day, you're still rifling through the garbage for trade goods, which is effectively the same as rifling through the garbage for Gold Coins like every other game. It was a nice idea, and is a nod to the item acquisition system in the tabletop rulebook, but it ended up not being meaningfully different, so for DH they do cut out the middleman and go back to just rifling through the garbage for Gold Coins directly again.

She's not a generic evil bad guy, she actually has a lot of beliefs that are contrary to the culture she grew up in while still being evil, which is interesting, and makes a good romantic partner and a reasonable LE monarch, which is also unique among her culture. She has to deal with pride and how it made her fall, and she retains being evil but in a way that still opposes various figures in the city and the cult. She offers evil endings to the game that are still opposed to the cult, and it's incredibly rare for a game to have a happy ending with an evil character. She's actually a pretty cool character, even with waifuism aside.

They both had a shitty overbearing evil goddess telling them what to do for most of their lives, and they both understand each other for getting out of that situation. Minthara says Shart is better off without Shar, and underneath belittling her a little bit as part of her persona of belittling people, you can tell Minth understands and approves. I don't think their relationship would be very romantic, but I could see Minth mentoring Shart regarding how to make a new life for herself after ditching the structure they used to live by, since Minth had to do the same thing. One of the things I like about Minth is that she would absolutely deny it, but she actually does take a small liking to most of the party and is willing to give them advice. Even Gale, who she makes a show of antagonizing, but in a scene at the end of the game she shows she's doing it for his benefit. Or Lae'zel and Karlach, who she doesn't even deny liking and is openly complimentary towards them.

So shipping them romantically doesn't fit very well, but I do see them being friends and connecting through their shared, quite similar, experience.

Think of it this way. You can probably go buy 100 tacos and it doesn't significantly impact your finances either way, but buying just one car is a big deal that you have to plan for and would limit your ability to make other purchases. A billionaire can buy 100 of those cars on a whim without it mattering, and for them a "significant purchase" is more like a megayacht, an island, or a company. It's a way to abstract massive weath by just saying "once you hit particular thresholds much smaller purchases become effectively unlimited." For the player there's no point in tracking each bit of money in and out. Your "money in" is in interstellar trade deals, buying 50 Drukhari sex toys doesn't rate. The "discount" is making the it so that you hit that "this doesn't impact my finances" threshold at a lower profit factor.
