The update on my insane family that no one asked for:
After I let my second son grow up feral out in the wild, I subsequently sent over two more kids, a third son and one daughter.
They had taken up refuge in the forest in an old mausoleum-type structure. But then a horde of zombies and a mutant skeleton showed up and killed the third son. I suspect foul play because I personally watched Hector open the door to the structure to let in the zombie that eventually killed his kid brother. Now its just Hector and his baby sister fending for themselves out in the forest, unless Hector kills her, too.

PLEASE do not play that. play E2E or E2Eu. They are MUCH MUCH MUCH better overall experiences in general as well as being significantly better for a player newer to expert and tech packs.
>>
>>552325504
Don't worry too much about it, It's really fun

Villagers can be a nice source of resources early game, specially the IE one that sells coils which you can smelt back into ingots
Also make an integrated terminals system as early as possible, it's not quite as good as AE but it's a LOT cheaper, careful with the lag tho, and it also has a nasty bug if you click the cables from more range than you're supposed to, if your inventory seems jumbled after touching one re enter the world

E2E if you don't mind ae2 channels, which you shouldn't eventually but if it's your first tech pack maybe you want to play it safe or whatever. Though e2eu also makes it a thousand times easier to make more creative fluid tanks so.

Ok ok ok ok ok, play e2eu, they have decently made quests for a lot of things and it isn't drawn out for no reason like e2ee, my main gripe with e2ee is just how needlessly long it is without adding much to the original goodness of e2e. you'll likely have a good time

Made an area for my nuclearcraft reactors, I think I'll need many more and I want it somewhat far away (I turned off radiation, but still it should be separate).
I'm a bit sad, since over here I previously had a sheeppuff permanently bouncing on a blue cloud - however, progress must be achieved.
This book is the next world upgrade - it makes mobs stronger, but it unlocks a few more recipes.(although the main thing it unlocks doesn't seem to be of use to me yet).

like

the cobble generator effectively requires all the parts of a regular cobble generator it just does it ludicrously fast even without the right power, i guess that's something that i can configure but i dunno condensing it down to exactly 1 block feels wrong

the sifters are nice but they also are by default able to just turn fucking gravel into diamonds at a 5% rate on the end tier item which just requires 5 brass and a brass based machine which like at that stage you can always just strip mine and i care more about the factory building but i don't know

that might be the problem mod now that i'm typing it out

Copying from the last thread.

What Modpacks do you recommend for the New Year anons?
No Enigmatica 9 Expert, already did that once. Or anything related.
No GTNH, I got bored after spending 200 hours getting to LV. I am not no-life enough to go through it.
No All the Mods, already beat 8 and 9.
No Liminal Industries, did that before the poolroom updates.

I am considering Stoneblock 4, since it's been years since I touched Stoneblock. Oh and Cave Horror Project because it could be something different.

I am open to all your suggestions and reviews of the aftermentioned Stoneblock and Cave Horror Projects.
>>
>>552379874
I played through most of stoneblock 4; I dropped it at the end since the last few quests seemed just too much compared to the rest of the pack.
The rest of it was pretty fun, and a few of the custom dungeons were very soulful. I would still recommend it, it was still a week's worth of fun.
This was my favorite automation that I made - it's the Just Dire Things materials being made passively. It was a cool challenge (reminded me of some of my DJ2 setups), although it turned out to be incredibly unnecessary

Society: Sunlit Valley and Raspberry Flavoured heard is good

Liminal Industries was interesting but does devolve into just create which is fine if you like it with a hint of horror but yeah

I enjoyed CABIN since it's a more balanced way to play create but haven't picked it back up since after making the automatic andesite factory i didn't have an off switch or decent collection system and couldn't be asked to work around for the primitive solution since my world was lagging already (create is better on 1.21.1 neoforge)

sorry we are running with online mode, but I will think of making it cracked client friendly in future updates but it would mean we have to add some sort of password protection /login authentication to the game which would potentially piss off my current users, but yes i will think about it for future updates when i next have the time/energy.

we are probably the most optimized gregtech server in existance and strive for 20tps all the time. I have gone as far as rewriting gregtechs cable code / EnergyNet to keep it at a solid 20tps even with hundreds of machines and thousands of cables loaded at once

I ended up doing zero progression today, but I did manage to get some nice gear. I got all of this armor super-enchanted, which lets you apply fixed powerful enchantments to specific types of gear. I also made an angel ring, so I can ditch my jetplate for the super-enchanted chestplate.
I probably need to update my weapon, but I also need to make some progress. I think I need to start slogging through more of the void miners, and the next ones will take a fluid I need to investigate.
In general, I just need to make space in my base for multiblocks. I think I'll need a lot, and I'm only planning on putting the void miners in compact machines (since they're fully set and forget).
Thanks for reading my blog.

One of the things I really love about Create is how generous it is with the crafting. You're given a million decorative block variations to use and you can craft and uncraft them as you wish to avoid mega inventory clutter. Slabs can be crafted back into a full block as well. Really good game design in my opinion, I don't give a shit about stairs technically costing less than a full block or whatever.
Sadly Create Deco missed the memo so all the extra brick blocks don't work like this. Better off using copycats with those, one misclick in the stonecutter could leave you with stacks of totally useless stairs or whatever.

opinions on survival mods that add thirst and climate?
>>
>>552450882
I like them in the cozy comfy packs and occasionally in the turn minecraft into terraria packs. They have their place.
If you put them in a tech pack though they're most likely just out of place.
Heat mods (i assume that's what you mean by climate) are really kinda hit or miss. In my personal experience they've either been ignored 99% of the time, solved trivially by a trinket or additions to your armor, or brutally painful in an unfun, nonsensical way. For that last one, see RLCraft and winters just giving you constant hypothermia no matter where you are, all the time.
I really like the concept, but I fear it just never really works out too well in practice.
>>
>>552450882
in general? climate can be cool if you add appropriate clothing and whatnot
thirst is debatable and depends on how scarce water is, i never turn on survival mode in fallout games because there's always an easy way to get water so it's just an annoyance instead of an actual challenge
>>
>>552450882

Good, especially when there's a purification process. Vanilla bottles aren't too bad to make and honestly it's a lot better to manage difficulty with 2 bars affecting regeneration since every food mod adds hyper saturation options

>climate
this is several things
>aesthetics of seasons changing
good, it's neat, i like when it snows more in winter and the snow piles up

>actual seasonal changes
seasons affecting gameplay like with crops slowing is bad, seasonal daylight shifts also don't work minecraft gets way to hostile at night

>biome weather
i have yet to see a mod that actually balances these correctly, usually the cold biomes are reasonable but last time i did one of these mods the fucking savannah was too hot to be out during the day time and i had to hide in a cave to avoid damage. Like yeah i guess in the dead of summer it might get bad but the seasonal mod always started worlds at the end of winter. There's also a disconnect of a biome being too hot for you while villagers fuck around all day. Likewise too often the dev thinks that oceans should lead to hypothermia. Also minecrafts world design just doesn't work with weather gradients, the world gen rules are too obtuse and you can get extreme cold next to extreme hot, an issue which is compounded if you have biome mods.

If you're going for a cold survival with some editing via biome replacer that could be fun based on my experience

There's a nether weather mod I kept including a few times on my lists but never progressed far enough to see if it was worth.

Bump. You have no idea how much I love environments like this. It actually inspired a sci-fi book I'm writing.
All of my personal attachments aside, Dynamic Surroundings has morning fog with adjustable thickness. Doom And Gloom (requires Oreganized) has fog that only appears when a certain mob spawns. Most shaders should have adjustable fog values, so you can make it real nice and thick when it rains or thunders if you'd like.

Learn to accept that you aren't going to be able to see 512 chunks away instantly anywhere you go in any world. Distant horizons is best when you are stationed at home and want to see everything around you for miles, and even if you're exploring you can take a short break in a hole to wait for it to generate if you really want to fill up all your storage.

Currently working on a c++ Vulkan Minecraft clone and I require some help with ideas on how I can improve on and differentiate my project from Minecraft. First and foremost I love that early mining phase in terraria where you’re digging all the way down to the hell so likewise I want this to go all in on mining with world depth being in the thousands of blocks. It will be using a 3D chunk system. Should I go for the purist old eerie early Minecraft look or something more stylized and shader-esque? Should the horizontal world be infinite like Minecraft or finite like Terraria? Give me your best ideas

wtf does vanilla+ mean i just got recommended a ton of youtube videos seething about how modern modpacks are all just vanilla+ instead of epic like old modpacks. How is 330+ mods vanilla+ though? does it just mean no tech mods?
>>

Vanilla+ is one of those meaningless words like Ramala ding-dong or Give Peace a Chance.
>>
>>552517697
>does it just mean no tech mods?
more or less, but I would say it's more so no overhauls or large-scale content added period
something like towns and towers? vanilla+
worldgen mods and biomes and full fledged structure reworks? different story

no? that's a different conversation entirely though

it's vanilla + 330 mods what don't you understand
>>
>>552509707
tech mods were supposed to be a more rp-focused and efficient resource acquisition method to the low tech vanilla. Instead of smelting sand you dig up into glass in a furnace with coal, now you use an oil refinery to produce usable fuel which you then burn in generators to power industrial blast furnaces, and also you get the sand from macerating gravel which you get from macerating cobble which you make and automatically obtain from a cobblegen and then you have pipes that move all the blocks around between machines automatically, so basically you just put the fuel in the generator and glass comes out.
But I think a lot of people (especially here) play tech mods just for the sake of playing tech mods.
>>
>>552501306
Distant horizons (I'm running distantly optimized), is a non-content vanilla+ mod pack.

I was just wondering if it was worth the effort trying to run it on my GPU as I've seen some people report 600-1000 chunks per second (vs my ~300cps). Having looked into it a bit further, I'll probably stick to CPU chunk generation to avoid potential stability issues in my hardcore survival world.
>>
>>552496369
>if you're exploring you can take a short break in a hole to wait for it to generate if you really want to fill up all your storage.
This is the second time someone has said that DH takes a while to generate chunks but in my experience this is not the case and my machine is pretty old too.
>>
>>552525509
It takes awhile on the first load.

After that it should be fine.

For a lot of people, if they're doing 512 chunk LOD render distance it can take several hours to generate the initial chunk file.

Once it's generated, then it's going to be pretty simple to keep it updated on the fly as you're playing.

I also took a big break when I needed to set up nuclear, but I eventually just sat down and made room for many reactors (although I've still only set up one, way too many rabbit holes to jump down).

The groundwork has been laid for the town of Lazlo, which is going to consist of a highway truck stop, a diner, a motel, a decrepit government office building (already completed) and a trailer park on the river. The town will have its street lights powered by a nearby windmill farm. I don't feel like running cables from the main city all the way down the highway, and it probably wouldn't work anyway due to chunk loading and unloading.

Are there any monster mods that actually make a solid base necessary? Maybe even something like the angels but less extreme?
>>
Cleanest atomic reconstructor I've ever made - it's a lot less sovlful looking than the one I made in DJ2, but it's super efficient. The reconstructors are controlled with redstone conduits - there's a sensor filter on the input (the reconstruction chamber), and a not filter on each reconstructor - that way, they only fire their laser when they have an item in their input.
The chambers even auto-output to the bottom. It was almost too easy with how it came together.
>>
>>552629579
Update: when the drawers fill up, the reconstructors still fill up their input, and then the laser happily fires away. Debating the best way to solve this - I may go with the boring option (sound muffler for the laser noise).

ok, this solution went from elegant to very ugly - however, it works. I used inventory sensors, reading from the first slot of the drawer (so blocks) and then turning it off if there's over 500 stacks in there. In retrospect I should have just used ID so there would be a smaller footprint, but this works so I won't change it.
It still looks fine from the front though, so it works even if it's super cramped in the wiring kiosk.

Which mod has the best gun autism?
I'm looking to make a pack primarily for just building stuff that has some basic tech + guns and vehicles.
Haven't even settled on the version yet, I don't care if it's 1.7.10 or older.
>>
Yes amazing copycats+, thank you for allowing me to turn my copycat vertical stairs into copycat vertical stairs whenever I wish, very helpful AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

techguns is probably my favorite gun mod. The mod ties weapon progression into general technological progression with other mods, though it is technically standalone. You start with basic shit like thompsons, remington 700s, then you move into assault rifles, then you get basic futuristic stuff like laser rifles, and the endgame of the mod has crazy shit like nuclear death rays.
There's a community edition fork that appears to be trying to fix the mod up a bit for 1.12.

I honestly feel like this wouldn't be THAT difficult. We already have biomes kinda how CDDA has forests, cities, towns, etc, and you could implement a skill system, crafting, zombie types and evolution, the underground science labs...

I played with flans, techguns and expansive weaponry
Don’t like techguns, too arcadey, but comes prepackaged with tech and enemies, and later is the best part, as difficult enemies are hard to find. It integrates guns into progression, depends on you if you like it or not. Config file is lacking.
Flans has lots of content packs, especially for 1.7.10. Vehicles suck through. Planes take off and land on a dime, hitboxes are weird, they can clip through stuff. 1.12 has an addon that allows customnpcs to interact with them. Config file exists but that’s about it. Plays poorly with crafttweaked.
EW has less content packs then flans but feels more polished. Armor is basically useless but looks cool and allows for “male barbie”. Vehicles exist, but aren’t useful outside maybe of decorations. You can convert flans packs to it.
Special mention to monorisu content packs aka tyrants and plebians. Largest weapon variety, from bronze age to modern, decent vehicles with damage models and other cool features, but it was built for a pvp faction server.
For vehicles it’s immersive vehicles. Large variety, decent performance, fairly polished. Military vehicles are more limited, but if you want *that one car* chances are some pack has it. Customisation is also present. Puting chrome rims, supercar engine, bus seat and racing wheel on a volga is fun.
Already talked about flans vehicles.
There is also create interactive, but it’s a bit different. If you wanna build vehicles, mess around with various engines and gears, it’s good. If you want specific vehicles that behave somewhat realisticly, IV or Monorisu.
Immersive Intelligence is an addon with some guns, artillery and wip npcs/vehicles.
If you have more questions ask away. Also post your pack progress, I might use some of it for mine

I built my city on top of a npc village that spawned here naturally. Towards the start of my save, I had built a nether portal near the village. I didn't realize that some of the villagers must have been accidentally going through until I found Flossie here wandering around the nether for what must have been actual irl months.

If you want gun autism Timeless & Classics is your mod. It has all the attachment glorp, different bullet calibers and casings and all that shite. Pretty sure there's all kinds from pistols to grenade launchers. Turn minecraft into full on Call of Duty or whatever.

If you really want to go crazy the modern war mod stack is Create Big Cannons, Create Radars, VS, Trackwork, and Warium with all the bridge mods. Fly a plane and get shot down by heatseaking missiles from killer robot outposts when your flares run out. Build a tank to huddle in and shoot down the drone carriers with AA guns with full 360 degree turret movement, autoloaded with mechanical arms. Bring the fight to them your own flying fortress bomber kitted out with an atomic bomb - just press a button on your flight controller to open the bomb bay doors and down it goes. Smooth landing back on your aircraft carrier, bring the plane below deck with the onboard elevator, and sail away. Or the bomb glitches into the side of the plane and explodes in the cockpit of course, aside from all the other jank.

in general just bartering. items have different value to different people based on how much that person wants a certain item, how much of that item is available, what farms are currently built, etc. Trying to centralize with something like diamonds or nether stars can sometimes work I guess but it makes more sense to trade a shulker box of dirt for a shulker of sand or something than deal in diamonds in some cases.

>whatever that's a reasonable thing to figure out for today lets learn how to get to collecting oil
>thankfully 1 video tutorial with current up to date mechanics on how to get steel

anyways here's my notes the in game stuff doesn't mention blast stoves anywhere as a necessity really fucking annoying
also personally i'd probably change out the crushing recipes to allow grinding or at least give some bonus for crushing since by the time you have coal (and you need a shit ton of coal to make coal coke specifically at the least creosote can be made with charcoal) setting up crushing wheels is a pain and they're too fucking big for an aesthetic factory that's just processing small chunks of coal

Find Fireclay underground
Compact cast iron from iron and coal to make cast iron
Make coke from 3x3 coke oven (even though it looks like a full block like the vault each line is it's own oven)
Make exhausts (any pipe works)
Collect creosote from the side, exhaust from top
Make a blast furnace and a couple blast stoves
Make an air intake (2x2) 1 does not work
Air has to go in the side, fuel(creosote) in bottom, exhaust on side and hot air from top
get lime sand from crushing limestone
Use smart pipes and a list filter to pump out slag into separate tanks so it doesn't back up
Make a casting basin
Extracts steel after cooling with a create inventory transfer thing like a chute or funnel
Get steel to make Industrial Pipes along with pump jack parts (there's a bunch of multi crafting processes including the 6x2 steps to get the steel mechanism but nothing is that isn't from base create or crafting
Including above need 2 steel trusses and machine input
Pump oil from pumpjackbase

i love bountiful but i never really play around with it too much. in magiculture i did a few bounties, in that pack it was neat because it had you cooking and making a bunch of different complex foods for bounties and getting villager currency for it. but overall it just wasn't that good of a way of getting the currency compared to easier things, which is kinda sad. still fun though.
>>
>>552711265
I like the way the Arisaurs look from Lycanites, but you have to disable all the jumpscare bullshit in the config for it to actually be playable.
>>
>>552691537
barter is the usual foundation
although sometimes universally valuable resources float to the top as currencies (diamonds, steel, etc.)
servers may have varying degrees or combinations of gift economy, market economy, or communism
sometimes a sector (crop or mob farming) is fully automated and free for everyone to take as much as they want
or the infrastructure is provided freely, with anyone able to harvest for themselves (but must replant)
other sectors (ores, microcrafted items) may be traded for, or doled out by the producer according to communicated needs
>>

Brew and Chew (farmers delight compatible) kind of covers the cheese part but otherwise it's vinery for wine and I don't think we have a good passive fishing mod

Think farmer's delight, especially with it's overuse, is only good from its addons for the more out there ingredients like nether or end or other stuff, i have no desire to install an addon for more IRL crops and foods so I would be fine with a different mod for realistic farming

Growthcraft community edition has simple beekeeping that lets you make honey that you can ferment into mead. It also has a cute little mechanic where of you plant flowers near a hive box, the bees will pollinate and grow more of those same flowers around it. Nice fire and forget way to beautify a field

What's your favourite hunger alternative? I like farming/cooking mods just for their own sake, but an extrinsic reason for using different food would be nice.

I think getting buffs from food is a stupid mechanic honestly. I much prefer big standard SoL where eating the same shit just gives you diminishing returns. I use SoL alongside Heat and Climate, and Al basically all it does is just force me to make more of the cool recipes the mod adds.
Buffs should be doled out as rewards for crafting magical baubles and mecha-powersuits and shit.

It can be, but IMO potions are basically that exact thing but worse. Spice of Carrot and shit like that has the problem of giving up permanent stats for dirt easy farming setup 90% of the time. If they were temporal buffs and the dishes were fairly elaborate, the idea would work better.

mod idea
market/restaurant/cafe/bar multiblock system
marker blocks for the entrance, exit, and corners
blocks which hold 1 item each
customers will enter, buy stuff (optional sitting, eating particles+sound), and leave
add categories, and add items to categories, with kubejs or json or whatever
a configurable variety multiplier for each category
so a restaurant sells food faster if you supply different items to different blocks
automating lots of every food in the pack, could mean unlimited monies

Fine in theory but the modders making them can't help themselves but make nighttime in plains biomes too cold to survive and thirst meters drain so fast that you die before your glass for a bottle is done smelting. It's always people who come from a mindset that Minecraft is "not hard enough" and the idea that "difficulty" is when you're required to have good luck in spawn location and just grind tedium for hours before you're allowed to play the game, rather than just people who think it might be a cool twist on the gameplay.

It looks ugly underneath, but I finally got all of my vis crystal production up and running. I used so many ender chests since I've had some problems with big conduit networks and this really minimized it.
I'm also running slightly positive on raw ironwood, so it should just run. This will help make everything so much easier, since both the arcane workbench and the infuser have a multiblock proxy that accepts vis crystals.
I also put purple nitor on all of the cauldrons, and now it looks a lot better.

Everything needs to be pumped and also the pump block only goes out like 16 blocks or something so you need additional pumps (positive analysis of mechanics)

I have managed to fit both the arcane autoworkbench and the arcane autoinfuser in my main base, so it doesn't have to live in the void (which is basically where anything that's too unwieldly or laggy goes).
I had to do some tricky things to get some stuff requestable (I only have 9 slots in a pattern, so I have some crystals auto-imported to make them fit), but this was a big impediment to my progress that is now solved.
Next I have to get Blood Magic will going, but that shouldn't be too hard. The DML integration has made getting LP incredibly easy, so in general everything is easier (also I have four tier 6 altars).

Shame that trash mod never got any Fabric version.

Otherwise it's kinda useless, string up some nice wires along the roads like our city building fren has done with IE, but that's purely visual.

I'm probably a brainlet not the first time, and for sure not the last, but I can't figure out the fluid flow here...
Why it's possible to pump oil into AdAstra refinery with Create stuff, but the processed fuel (red) can't be pumped out? Or actually it can, but only when input/crude oil tank is empty? What am I doing wrong?
I've tried to fiddle wth Side Config of the refinery, for various slots, but it's not making any difference.
In current setup cude oil input is from back (east) and (not working) output is right (south).
Pumps for moving fluid around are Create mechanical pumps operating at 64 RPM

Probably the best shoot showing the current layout
Fluid tank in the background is a crude oil tank, processed fuei tank in on the right.
Tried to attach output pipe (processed fuel) at the bottom of the refinery, but no cigar either.
Two blocks to the left of the refinery are irrelevant, they have nothing to do with oil provessing (it's AA blast furnace and compressor)
Fuel stored in right tank is an effect of my experimentations with that damn refinery, when I manualy emptied crude oil slot (and then damn thing started pumping shit out)
>>
>>553361935
Is there an output side?

It's part of the multiblock, there's one per essence to cook the crystals.
I'll need 53 of a different one to also have it in essentia form, which I might just place above all of these. Honestly, even though this is "cleaner", I preferred the thaum setup I had in DJ2 because it wasn't so contrived (even though it generated a lot of flux)

Not 100% happy with the way the roof turned out on this place but it's turning into a nice little building. Once you reach the schematic cannon copy/paste phase of a build progress just mega spikes, well subject to time and energy constraints as always.

And yeah we're pathserbing at the moment, come hang out!
>>
>>553478221
>runs like butter
this is a common misconception. it does not run good, it runs better than minecraft, which is on the immediate mode opengl from 2005. actually it runs much shittier than minecraft with sodium installed. multiplayer servers start lagging at 20 people and every part of the rendering code is implemented in the most naive way possible. this is why I always laugh when I see someone making a voxel game and they become over obsessed with optimizations.

>>
>>553478221
>i doubt hytale is going to support proper chiseling
will be modded in day 1 because chiseled blocks are just a block entity that caches the chisel mesh whenever nearby blocks get modified. if their engine is retarded and doesn't allow easy custom tessellation of blocks it's DOA and tyrone won.

Do you have any concrete examples of gaping gigantic flaws or is this just the usual burnout /vm/ imported 4chan autism?
I remember playing it with /jp/ on my GTX 970 and I comfortably ran it at 60 FPS without a hike even with all the pretty settings smacked up to near-highest and render distance to as high as the server allowed.
