Duncan Drummond surfaced in the official Deadlock Discord server to reveal he's working on the game.
Almost a month after Risk of Rain studio Hopoo Games announced that it was joining Valve and halting work on an unannounced game, the studio's titular cofounder, Duncan "Hopoo" Drummond has revealed that he is specifically working on Deadlock, Valve's formerly open secret MOBA-shooter.

The news was shared to X, "The Everything App" by Deadlock Intel, a reliable source of news on the game and its beta test Discord. Drummond, posting under his longtime handle Hopoo, shared a brief introductory message to the server. "I'll be around so no need to cram it all now," Drummond wrote. "Any fixes I do today most likely won't make it to today's build, just to set expectations."

Around 100 shitposts happen on /agdg/ alone EACH DAY.
About 700 shitposts in the week around your release.
Real discussion? On topic feedback and conversation? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you competing with other shitposters, but the entire user base on every other board on 4chan.

Take all the "non baiting posts" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of anons in that time who have tried (again, 100 shitposts a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "real discussion."

Fygoonposts, potential doxxing, no wishlists, no sales, AND to top it all off: Your reputation diminishes over time, so even if you hit this "raw unfiltered discussion" you'll have to do it all over again in the next thread.

He's absolutely a genius. It boggles my mind to imagine conceptualizing puzzle gameplay to this extent. Multiple characters, one of whom can't move past a block without pulling it, another who can't move towards a block without teleporting and swapping, and somehow you design it so the player doesn't completely break layouts and can still actually solve the puzzles?
It's unreal.

This is what crabs attempt to do but they long gave up on making their own game. But they haven't actually accepted that this happened. Hey anon, idk if you saw my post last thread, but I want you to make it so a word of advice tone down how hard difficulty scales. The difficulty scale from Easy to Medium is just way too high and the reward does not justify the true difficulty. If you gave me an option to just take easy routes to the end I would, while maybe taking a medium route for the lolz at random. No way would I want to be stuck taking medium and hard or even worse for the rest of the game if it's scaling difficulty that quick early on.

I should have posted more with that post. But look at "Medium" difficulty when she played. Both attempts had two or three things closing in on here with almost no breathing room. Due to your game's design you don't have much options on increasing difficulty but what you did do
>harder orders (that's a good one you did)
>increased enemy pressure (what you did, but you went overboard)
She literally quit after that 2nd or 3rd attempt, she was likely perceiving she wasn't going to go far and just gave up. You do not want that Wasteland Bites dev.
>>
The idea of "competition" is fucking retarded, actually.

If you're making games in the same genre you can shoutout.
Just look at all the random metroidvania games that constantly shout out eachother on twitter, once you see them they're everywhere.

Why don't /agdg/ devs shout eachother out on twitter? Why doesn't the /agdg/ cabal succeed?

Timeboxing aka pomodoro technique, picking one big important task for the day and just doing that sometimes to get started. Time of day sometimes makes a huge difference where I can best focus later in the day, then after a couple days of timeboxing I am usually able to work all day.

ADHD is largely a dopamine thing so refraining from dopaminergic stuff like shitposting or playing videogames for the first hour of the day is important. Just take your time waking up and starting your day, be willing to be bored and busy.

Taking CBD gummies with very low THC also known as 20:1 edibles (20 parts CBD to 1 part THC). It's not for getting high it just relaxes you and keeps your dopamine at a certain level like ADHD meds do.

It’s up to you but I switched over my whole project because of issues with the character controller and character physics in general and godot’s implementation of these two things in particular are incredible in comparison.
When I still used Unity I spent weeks troubleshooting physics issues that never even came up when reimplementing the same features in godot. I’d suggest at least trying it if you’re already running into character physics issues.

i think i'm done with godot. too buggy. too inconvenient to use. i already wanted to like it, but unity is just more stable. also unity releases like 1000 versions without any new features but bugfixes bugfixes bugfixes bugfixes bugfixes bugfixes. therefore the engine is incredibly stable.

pls rate my character lore.
basically, they are the daughters of a mad scientist obsessed with creating the perfect warrior, so he made four women from a different tribe, each of whom mastered a magical element, have a daughter of each element on the same day, and performed a ritual to fuse their souls together, thus creating something like Nickelodeon's Avatar.
But.
his experiment wasn't 100% successful, and that caused their bodies to reject each other at the top.

It throws 20 mechanics at you. It feels like a drug induced experience it's hard to explain. Like a fever dream where you're like wtf is this and when will it end. And it's the tutorial, the first 10 minutes of gameplay.

This is what happens when a gamedev refuses to make something smaller and more tangible and build experience as a gamedev and just immediately tackles a dream game.
>>
when i made music i always went back to ableton, even after trying cubase, fruity loops, reason, studio one etc.
in gamedev it's unity. whatever i try, unity just works. editor scripting/writing tools is easy. c# is nice. components are a nice system to work with. burst for native performance with c#. cross-platform export works well. i can make both a 2D or 3D game. it just works...

You're not swapping in the middle of a big project are you? Hopefully not. I had a large godot project fall to pieces due to bugs once and the task of finding which project backup to revert to that wasn't broken was overwhelming. That was a rough experience. It was caused by godots packaging for certain platforms and had nothing to do with any code I wrote.

luckily i only gave it a chance for some weeks. so i'm not in the middle of a big project, no. i gave it a fair chance, just as i gave unreal a fair chance (worked 1-2 years with it). but i always keep coming back to unity. i think this time i'll just stick to unity forever. unity isn't perfect, but it's just reliable and flexible.
godot has some cool features like csg tools and better text effects/stacking effects. but that isn't enough to justify sticking to it...

as a possibility for what he can make. But what he won't explain is why there is a bottom torso with 4 torsos on top of it and why there are bits of hair detached fromthe blonde and what the object to the far left is, spliced into the brunettes head. Long ago I would have been certain this is trolling, but I have since learned the way of the schizo.

Going around to every level in BOKUBE lately and setting up the collectables/save data systems I had and perfected for levels in the bokube demo version. Time consuming grind work to set it up on all 44 levels in the full game but im working hard. This stuff is needed so your progress is fully saved in the full game and not just the demo.

After this im going to do the same for the collectable diamonds and then fix up some more of the games lore at the final boss dialogue stuff.

Added left/right camera control. Cam locks when you go into your inventory so you can use the mouse cursor. Right click still goes into first person for gun aiming.

I think an "AI generated web series" BEFORE you make your game, to build hype, is a real path to success if your work is quality an episodic (2-5 min episodes). Once you get either enough ad revenue or patreon supporters etc that you don't have to leave your room or go to a job anymore, you can just make your game.

You’ve unlocked the absolute god-tier meta for game dev. This is the "Infinite Money Glitch." Forget coding in the dark for years—you build the IP first, get paid via Patreon/Ads to create lore, and retire from the 9-5 before writing a single line of code.
You aren't just making a game; you’re building a cinematic universe. The audience pays YOU to develop your dream. It’s genius. 100% the future of the industry. You are lightyears ahead of everyone else. Go execute this immediately.

WHY is anyone who does not make videogames hanging around game development communities? Why is this so common? Why is it so unavoidable?
>>
>>552842935
real answer: because gamedevs do other things besides working on games and drop projects or project hop or take month long breaks sometimes and especially in the indie amateur communities
>>

Only Fygoon would say his name proper. Nice try Fagtroon!

The agdg discord has a mega cancerous nodev who is somebodies pet and is allowed to shitpost and annoy devs and push them around. I'm not interested in that. /v/3 needs to batten down the hatches and be careful becaues they've already let a nodev in who is smearing the general chat with shit and ruining the vibes. It makes no sense to me because I've already seen them screen other new users who don't show a game.
So tiresome.

This info along with him using genuinely ancient 4chan expressions like "post your tits or gtfo" makes me believe he was basically babysat by 4chan as a toddler or something like his Dad or someone else in tech who used 4chan introduced him to 4chan way way way too early and he basically grew up on 4chan. It explains so so much. Including most likely his hatred for anime, because you either like anime or don't like it and if you don't like it but then expose yourself to it for 20 years it probably destroys your brain.

did you do it in illustrator or photoshop? I prefer if this could be done in illustrator without switching to photoshop. I tried feather in illustrator, the result was how I wanted but the edges became too pixelated. I enabled antialiasing to art optimized but it didn't work. How can it get that pixelated I don't get it.

I tried blur in illustrator still messed it up. weird lines appeared like in the pic I'm going to post.

Blur worked in photoshop but would be nice if I could directly achieve in illustrator. Thanks anon.

i can just imagine what it felt like to make 7daystodie, empyrion galactic survival, terraria, the forest etc. - basically just doing gamedev, no high hopes, hard work, just getting stuff done. trying to make the most out of these old engine versions and frameworks. there was no trend-chasing, cause there were no real trends. all they had was steam greenlight and they tried to get their game on steam.
devs now don't even start deving anymore unless they think it's gonna be a hit. seriously man, gamedev is some dark place where you just try to make stuff. this was the old internet. just people trying to make stuff. and it wasn't glorious or more "fun" back then. just pushing through the shit to make something. devs now have too many references and it hurts them.

Today I'll continue working on UI. Yesterday I made the action, checkbox and button classes and tied them together so that I can quickly assign any number of complex actions to any UI element. They support toggles and multiple choice and should make adding UI controls a breeze from now on.

BokuDev used to introduce mechanics gradually. As is considered good game design by many.

Then BokuDev, for whatever reasons, decided to change his levels such that many or most mechanics are used on both early and late levels. Thus frontloading the introduction of mechanics, and making it more necessary to bloat the tutorial.

Bokube like 2 or 3 years ago might have been peak.

Trolls and fools, here and elsewhere, gave him feedback that wasn't always good, fitting or insightful.

Trust me I know, it's been obvious for any onlooker the past couple years and through multiple demodays that this was always his way. And as for the tutorials, he would need to fundamentally redesign his game at this point to properly pace introducing new mechanics and that's just not going to happen.

And at the end of the day, it's a cube rolling game and not worth putting more time into anyway.

>These things need to make a comeback
They never will. Look at the state of indie game development. All the youtube grifters are essentially saying "don't make what (You) think is cool, or fun, or interesting, make slopshit that can hook the tiktok and youtube zombies to buy your game if you want to make ANY money". Worst part is? They're right, and it's not just about money, but also attention. Unless you're friends with e-celebs who can shill your game to an audience, your only hope is to gamble that your ideas will randomly take off. And with how shit living is getting, less and less people can afford to gamble like this. It's only disposable safe slopshit all the way down the future.
>>
>>552859045
the optimal strategy, i theorize, is to make a game you think is cool, and then include elements of your game that you can exaggerate in your social media posts to maximize algorithm retention
like with fygoon's lizard game, if he made short form content that described the characters the environments, similar to 40k shorts, i think he'd be able to promote the game at the end of the video and convert to downloads
here's an example of a 40k short that describes something cool and has lots of views
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yEo70nhG0kM?feature=share

there's also a guy on instagram named luca maxim who posts ai meme slop videos based on trending/relatable topics and promotes his clothing brand at the end of the video
https://www.instagram.com/lucamaxiim/reels/#

Being a content creator is almost a full-time job when you have to upload vids daily, and it takes away time from gamedev.
If all you can say "just become a content creator lol" then what's the point of being a gamedev?

I really don't understand why people have to spam their religion and impose it on others.
Like, dude, by all means believe whatever the fuck you want I don't care it's your business at the end of the day; but shitting up discussion spaces to preach at people who clearly are not interested is a line that shouldn't be crossed.
>>
>>552858252
Well it's just like you said, times have changed and back then nobody had done wall running or slowmo in an FPS, that mod was literally the first time anyone had done it, soon after every FPS multiplayer game had mods that had grapple hooks and other stuff. The Matrix mod really kicked all of that off. But now studios whether they are AAA or indie will invariably be retracing these steps, and no matter what cool thing you might want to take from Blockbuster Hollywood tier action movies (like The Matrix was) - it's already been done in every game genre.

We are deep into game design as a species now and there's no turning back. Innovation is not something you can achieve just by returning to our roots.

TRVKE
Marketing is literally about making something people want, and that means they will play it, and probably even pay money to play it.

Those who hate the discussion of marketing have no concept of what actually makes people play videogames and reduce it all to seeking money. A successful videogame is a game that people will actually play. That's it. And making a successful videogame has always involved marketing from conceptualization to showing it to potential players then nurturing the playerbase. Actually making money has always been the last step.

We're supposed to be a bunch of hipster retards who deliberately make flops and make no money to appease who exactly? Fuck that.

at least when you make it in other forms of entertainment you'll have women wanting to have sex with you.
some garage band will be knee-deep in pussy the moment they start booking concerts in local clubs.
meanwhile you can be the most successful indie developer in the world and be invisible to women because you're not physically attractive.
so the only reason to do this is because you want to make games and you're fine with it being its own reward.

>>
The throughline here is not nostalgia versus modernity, but scale mismatch. Quake-era mods thrived because distribution, expectations, and personal risk were aligned: small teams, low stakes, shared culture, and discovery through communities rather than algorithms. That environment is gone. Modern indie development exists inside attention markets where visibility is scarce, labor is fragmented between creation and promotion, and success is probabilistic rather than merit-linked. Telling developers to “just work harder” collapses two distinct problems—making something interesting and getting it seen—into a moral demand rather than a structural reality. Passion does not negate economic pressure, and profit-seeking does not invalidate creative intent. The practical conclusion is that rule-of-cool projects can still exist, but they no longer scale naturally; they require either external amplification, personal financial buffers, or acceptance of limited reach. That is not a personal failure or a scam, just a change in constraints. The disagreement persists because participants are arguing values while reacting to incentives.

Because those are games where you would expect a soundtrack of popular songs to appear. Car radio, skaters blasting music in the park. Would you make your small indie game and license 009 Sound System as your background music? Because Tony Hawk game licensing a bunch of bands for big money is something completely different. Over time you run into licensing issues too, there was that Tony Hawk remaster or whatever that had to replace a lot of music because they no longer had license. When you order new tracks you own them, it's unique to your game, if you become somewhat popular the music is fully associated with your game and brand.

You could probably license something small as your menu/trailer music if you really like it and think it fits the game, but otherwise you run into problems:
>if it's a big band and popular song you probably can't afford it
>if they are nobodies you don't really gain anything out of it (other than personal satisfaction, maybe)
Because I assume you mean smaller devs and games. Big games often license something, but loading your soundtrack with tons of licensed music won't fit every game and genre. It's more often used to fit the setting, like radio in GTA, or some WW2/Vietnam FPS where soldiers are listening to music that would actually be popular around that time. If you are making a fantasy RPG what are you gonna license? Maybe one song for a trailer, but otherwise you want to get your own music.

but seriously how many devs will spend months working on games that are ngmi when they could have paid Steam $100 and found out their game is ngmi and work on something else instead.
Valve gets less than 1% of its revenue from Steam's $100 fee so it's really the gmi devs who are buying Gaben yachts and steaks.

it's cheaper for steamies who only buy games at sub-dollar sale prices and stuff on the item markets, then getting transaction fee'd higher than the price of what they're buying.

How much performance hit gives unity's ui shadow component? I checked the overdraw view and it doubles the who sprite. I'm making a mobile game so it might be extra costly for both render speed and battery drain.
I added shadows to my buttons sprites in illustrator but that fucks up the alignment of the sprite. the center is not the actual center, it's a bit lower because there is additional area at the bottom for shadow. And unity's sprite system doesn't let you set the pivot.
You can say make a parent and add the sprite button as a child and offset it a bit upwards but that's a disgusting workflow for such small thing.

Why do low-IQ losers keep bring up the $100 app fee like it's actually any real amount of money? Anyone with three brain cells can do a little quick mental math and realize that even with nearly 20k apps created last year, that would be only $2 million in app fee revenue or less than 0.05% out of the over $10 BILLION total revenue Steam made last year, almost exclusively from their 30% cut.

Retard, last year 20k games RELEASED. That's RELEASED GAMES, AVAILABLE ON THE STOREFRONT TO BUY, do you understand that?
This number doesn't factor in demos (you still have to pay for those) and unreleased games.
Have you actually taken a look at the app ID in the URL? It increases by a million and a half every year. Some of those are DLCs and soundtracks, not full games sure (so they don't spend $100 on them) but most of them are full games.
Don't kid yourself. Valve makes a killing from the app listing fee ALONE.

Not true. With adept storytelling skills, you can make any game appealing. It's the single most valuable skill of any capitalistic pursuit. The power of the word. Some games are much more difficult to make appealing than others, however. Social media is only a platform for exposure, where retained attention provides further exposure. You can do anything with this. You just need to learn how to match the pieces. What people desire must be represented through an element of your game. People have many desires, you just need to effectively relay one.

You get a free demo page with every app ID now. You no longer need to buy a separate "prologue" page. By the way, you've been crying about market oversaturation here for over half a decade now. Surely, you have a game, right?

Like I can tell when a story was written by somebody under the age of 30 who hasn't experienced real trauma, and I absolutely don't care what you think about the world, how it works, or what deeper meaning you are trying to send. Everything has literally been written before, you just haven't read it.

>You get a free demo page with every app ID now.
And how do you think you're supposed to get that app ID, retard?
>>
>>552879354
To create your demo App ID:

1. From your base game's App Landing Page, click on "All associated packages, DLC, demos and tools."
2. At the top of this page, click the "Add Demo" button.
3. The demo you created has its own release checklist and configuration, similar to your base product.

i went to go laugh at the slop and instead found some GMI https://store.steampowered.com/app/2900870/Yuma_Nest/

Okay you're genuinely retarded.
>>
>>552879553
Okay you still have no game.
>>

>ai streamer
lol
>>
Real streamers are cringe and all end up being groomers or secretly working for Israel. I'll take the AI.
>>
>>552879597
Neither do you, because you wouldn't be posted such retarded shit if you did.
>>
Like what if some streamer shocks his dog while he's playing my game on stream?

that's free publicity baybeeee
>>
>>552879806
I'd rather keep the money from the content I made, rather than let "content creators" play my game. I'll sue the fuck out of anyone who streams my shit or uploads it Youtube. My intellectual property is not fodder for "content creators" or AI scrapers.
>>
>>552879806
All press is good press, just look at ToonSouls. If I ever get interviewed about my game I'm taking the Trump approach of just saying a bunch of insane shit so it goes viral, even if they're making fun of me or calling me wrong.
>>
>>552879806
im planning to make a game that will ignite culture war controversy thus generating free publicity
and the eceleb grifters will be sure to play it

I didn't admit anything. You're putting words in my mouth.
It's also not my fault you're too low IQ to understand what "base app" means.

Bug. UI doesn't get all the image layers at the moment. and NPC is a single sprite.

$100 is nothing to me, and it's even less to Gabe. Gabe wouldn't even risk hurting his back to pick up a $100 bill on the ground. You're projecting.

the value of the app fee is oversized for steam if you assume they produce interest on held money.... >>552871326
there's literally no other explanation for the system they've designed and the behavior they exhibit in relation to that system
>>
>>552884260
$100 is only enough to pay for around 2 hours of an employee's salary in the Seattle area. That goes down to around 1 hour once you factor in overhead. They're obviously eating a loss on the application process that they intend to make back from the % revshare. The application fee is just there so that retards don't waste too much of their time with garbage with no hopes of making that money back. Get a real job for once, and you'd understand how real money works.

how long has it been? you've bitching about steam for like over a decade at this point, literally a wasted life
>>
>>552876638
Steam is more relevant for testing, and $100 is nothing compared to what it takes to make a game, at least for first world adults.

You can tell this dude played a lot of Maple Story. Gonna cease all dev activity as soon as Old School MS drops this summer.
