I think my third eye is opening because I'm beginning to see what my friend was talking about when he said the writers in this book write Sonic like they're trying to break him but can't do it so they narratively fuck him over.I thought he was just talking some schizo shit but I reread the first half of the Diamond Cutters arc with that idea in my head and...yea that actually would explain why they made so many stupid decisions in that singular arc. Fans always want to write character fluff or angst or ship them, yet with Sonic you can none of those things, he's emotionally distant of anything that could make him appear too vulnerable like fandoms want things to go like. The only piece of fanfiction you can write with Sonic is a story about him cheering up your self-insert OC.
