Their relationship in practice is more closed off than estelle and renne.Lastly estelle forma de bardock does a lot of things early on that prevents Joshua from falling in love with her. Mainly using her knowledge of her crush as a smoke screen for all of her suspicious behavior in a really annoying way, as well as defacing her books to intentionally obscure how knowledgeable she had become. this is actually also foreshadowing. They still have a sibling like relationship but Joshua in canon even remarks that estelle is so bright for him that it's painful. Estelle is still somewhat close to him and learns the harmonica because "obviously the protagonist of a jrpg would play an instrument" and feeling left out, at that point having no idea she's the mc. Joshua also doesn't take a shine to klose right away. After Ruan though I doubt estelle would ever be someone Joshua could romantically love considering how that ends. Whether klose and Joshua would work out is another can of worms. I believe it's possible but I also like klose and a lot of people just consider her a boring one note character
