And yes, the companion is integral to the plot so cannot just be skipped since she is a dragonslayer. Swen's style is completely optional and will only be seen by people who pass several "Do you want lizard cock?" confirmations, while Corinne Busche's style is soap boxing about real word politics and is not part of an optional questline, it IS the companion's questline.It's the same with the bear in bg3. You have to confirm multiple times you want to have sex with the guy, and even when you do, when you go to have sex with him, he's in his human form and you have to ask if he can change into a bear. So it's locked behind several confirmations, and you have to instigate it. So Swen's wacky sex stuff is exactly what it should be: player option.

Elric books are about Elric and a setting built for Elric, Corum books are about Corum and a different setting built for Corum. The world is often sketchy and mythic. There's the overarching connective elements with law and chaos but it's all very loose. And stuff with a bit more of a concrete setting like Hawkmoon are pretty deep cuts. Moorcock stuff would be much better suited to a Witcher-style fixed protag adventure game RPG than a CRPG. Only thing Pathfinder, 40k and the Expanse have is common is that the stuff that really stands out about the IP is the setting itself rather than any particular characters.

Curious as to the opinions here about how new and future CRPGs will pursue cinematic vs. text-based storytelling. Baldur's Gate 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, however I am interested to see how its impact will affect development of future CRPGs.I know interest in CRPGs has grown significantly with the popularity of the game and personally believe that is largely due to the increase in cinematic cut scenes and full voice acting. While this certainly makes the game more accessible, I do hope that it doesn't lead to less text-based CRPGs coming out (and being recognized) in the future.I feel that spending time and money on aspects other than voice acting and motion capture allow for a more intricate world if one is willing to put in the effort. I had so much fun in divinity 2 in act 1 classic and now I'm in act 2 and getting my shit pushed in. My characters are relatively geared, I hit level 11, and practically every fight I just get assblasted. The level map didn't help. Watching streams of people playing honor mode and it looks like there's a ton of weird cheese mechanics that make everything easy that I don't care to do or figure out.
