So the Halo 2 Anniversary OG Main Menu (the version that existed independently of MCC) has leaked and in case there was still any doubt, it's literally all lifted straight from Halo 4 and then tweaked from there. The UI is essentially the same but with Halo 2 style accents on the the options and references to H2A content as opposed to H4.

I finally played halo 1 through 3. I was surprised how little dialogue the series actually had aside from cortana, spark, and the arbiter. The flood levels and the bosses were kinda lame but the vehicle sections and map design were rather fun. My favorite was fighting the scarabs and using melee weapons. Still, i wish human weapons were better after CE

Maybe the formula is already perfected and now it's impossible to make a good fps like Halo. Where as Halo's base gameplay and sandbox is just naturally fun where you don't need to dangle a carrot in front of the player to keep them hooked, you can just play it and have a good time. It would explain why people still play the old games. If it weren't for Titanfall's Titans (arguably Halo), it would just be Call of Duty with some parkour gimmicks. There is not a single game yet that has made vehicle and infantry combat as fun as Halo, the driving and physics in a lot of games that do have vehicles are really bad. The closest any game has come Halo's vehicles is Fortnite, but the environment/clutter collision boxes everywhere are horrible, so your vehicle is always running into stuff even when it doesn't appear to be, and the devs know this because they make it really hard to flip vehicles over by accident.

The forerunner aesthetic (and covenant to a lesser extent) is the unsung hero of Halo multiplayer. It allows the developers to create completely abstract play spaces that could be designed purely to play well without the need to be grounded. Hang em High, Blood Gulch, Sidewinder, Lockout, Beaver Creek all were made with this freedom. In fact if you look through the consensus best maps, the vast majority are either covenant or forerunner, most human maps are middle of the pack to bad, especially 4v4 ones which benefit more from abstract arena designs than big team maps. There is also heavy use of teleporters which fell off over the course of the series, as they don't fit the more grounded approach.I really think this is a big reason why map quality decreased, with Reach being the low point of the series. The alien aesthetic goes hand in hand with great arena maps, with a few exceptions, and allows the devs to be much more creative with how they design them.

Also something that's not mentioned is that in 2 there are so many missions that give you a sniper/beam rifle compared to the rest of the series, which lets you two shot elites from distance

Halo 2's sword only has so many swings, while H1's shotgun holds 72 shells max.
