I cant help but draw parallels to old overwatch since they are both 6v6, in that game you would have a sort of main frontliner whose primarily there to soak as much damage as possible, then an off-tank where its weaker at the primary role but brings extra damage or utility. In deadlock they just all feel like off tanks, the closest to main being a mo or vic, but mo is played as pick and vic is really just an off tank who scales

Deadlock also has powerful items, but because every character has a gun, main stats and stat growth are too uniform, and there are no character kits that significantly change how a character is played defensively (tank that reflects a % of damage or counterattacks etc.) it ends up with samey feeling characters. Sure, this encourages build variety and it's less rigid than Dota, but it just melts into grey soup.

if you want tanks to exist in this game they actually need like 10,000 HP and even that much HP will melt in seconds with a few people focusing it.the closest thing to a tank is playing a high sustain character that can get in and out of combat, like the popular yamato build right now with radiant regen + healing booster or the stupid green bebop build.also bruisers getting ahead a little bit early game gain so much momentum compared to everyone else it's kind of crazy how hard an abrams/yamato/silver/bebop/etc can control a game if they just get like 3 kills in their lane.i think we have a fairly decent balance of characters that can absorb lots of damage but you still have to have good positioning and agility instead of just standing out in the open and forcing people to shoot at you.

Is there any reason to build up beyond basic vitality/counter items on a non tanky/support hero when you can use those slots to maximize potential damage output? Seems like a no brainer to mostly go all damage
