>>560637891Ok, sorry, got sick /ic/ keeps arguing between one another, kind of like here but worse. How do I render this sketch? Spent an hour trying to clean it and my brain already can't brainining.
>>560637847Proof it works? That's just moving the encryption point but you're still using the same system which can be easily decompiled.>>560637869It's not an online game it's a co-op game, you play with people you know, an online game is not a lobby co-op game, there are "singleplayer" games that require you to be online, they're not online games either.
>>560637946idk, AI managed to make it work for me in godot though
>>560637747>It matters if you're making an online game yes, are you daft? Why would it? Everything should be server authoritative, and custom clients are trivially rejected when they aren't signed by the actual developer.
>>560638040>Proof it works? That's just moving the encryption point but you're still using the same system which can be easily decompiled.lol dumb nigger

>>560638183no it has multiplayer sync nodes but they suck ass, i have been using RPC calls for everything, never used unity so idk how it compares
>>560638221Haven't thought of that. I'll give it a try, thanks friend. For some reason, I thought everything needs to be rendered. Plus, the original psd file is 15k by 17k so trying to paint it would kill my pc. Thanks.
And done
>>560638040So because you misuse terms, you can't solve problems. You should take a step back and start solving the terminology problem, before trying to describe a problem. Use the proper syntax for things, and solutions will fall out naturally. You're probably describing an MMO then, if "online" precludes games that are online as "not really being online."
>>560637747>It matters if you're making an online game yes, are you daft?It does not. If you trust the client data instead of the server being the source of truth then it's a skill issue. If on the other hand your concern is bots/macros then it does not matter either, you can hook into functions and call them either way, just takes more time to develop cheats.
>>560638081>Everything should be server authoritative, and custom clients are trivially rejected when they aren't signed by the actual developernigga we're indie devs we dont have the online infrastructure to do that most indie games are p2p

I don’t know guys, making a game while not making your game engine seems like a one way to slop city

>>560638081LOL, even games made by billions dollar companies like wow have speedhacks, good luck with your "everything is authoritative" godot game.>>560638364No you're the one who tried to say that sts2 is an online game when it's a co-op game. OBVIOUSLY you give less of a shit about cheaters in lobby/co-op games because they can just be kicked or you'll realistically never play with them unless you have cheater friends, it's different for an online game.
>>560638869>LOL, even games made by billions dollar companies like wow have speedhacks, good luck with your "everything is authoritative" godot game.>No you're the one who tried to say that sts2 is an online game when it's a co-op game. I like the fact that you guys are making multiplayer games. I really do. Because networking takes a real skill to do
>>560638869Dude, if you're this committed to being stupid, you're not going to solve problems effectively. If you insist that apples are oranges, then fuck off with your stupid ass "why are there oranges in my apple pie" questions. StS is an online game, StS is an online game with co-op. Whatever you game is that you think you're describing, is not different, if your game is using both "online," and "co-op."
>>560638427Whether a game is P2P or using dedicated servers is orthogonal to authentication. It's not difficult (or expensive) to stand up an auth server even if you're then using P2P for authenticated users. >>560638869Server authoritative doesn't mean every action runs on the server. It just means the server is the authority in the client-server model. In a P2P game one player is still operating as a server, and you can still require that server to be authenticated with simple client validation.
Goal: Just make a really fun combat system and build a game around it
>>560638221I actually really like this artstyle

>>560639082Networking is the final boss of infotech related spheres of work, it will literally take a healthy brain and pulverize it into grey goo, I do not recommend any indie devs get too hung up on networking.

>my first dev stream>I was muted the whole time
>>560639395>biological woman
>>560639414Writing the code is fine, but networking is black magic to those who don't know it. The AI is a homunculus that can give you the spells, but doesn't understand how they work. If you don't understand how they work, that's a problem. In a non-networked codebase, it's sometimes passable as long as things act right, but when you do this with networking, bad things can happen. Homework: do some research on entities that suffered big data breaches.
i just remembered what got me into gamingit's fun.not soul. not escapism. not ideals.just plain fun.i didnt play pokemon for any other reason.and when i had fun i didn't question the fun. i didn't say "oh it's not like the other game" or "it should be like this or that".i just accepted the game for what it is and had fun.
>>560639686I don't think anyone needed to hear the bong rips in the background while Claude did all the work in VSC
>>560639659yeah but that already exists with roguetown, i'm just remaking it in godot with a bunch of changes because i don't like the direction the codebase is going and ill be fucked if i'm going to put so much effort into a byond server
>>560638967>>560639123>>560639147Okay I give up godotards, your engine is perfect and you would have no issue at all if you were to release an online game.

>>560638002most shadows in 2D art are done using the same shapes, sphere, cube, cone, cilinder. My advice is to practice a bit drawing and rendering these, before attempting your picture.A trick you could make is to use an AI to generate a 3D model of the drawing, then import in blender and use blender to do the calculations of the shading, then use it as reference to draw it.

>>560640516I fundamentally disagree with this perspective. The absence of an existing frame of reference is itself what provides the novelty of an experience. Viewing everything through the lens of juxtaposition with something else directly diminishes one's enjoyment ("comparison is the thief of joy" is more than an overused platitude). In your example the novelty of an adaptation in a new medium is what makes it fun. Recreating the same story in the same medium doesn't provide audiences fun because it was not created with the purpose of providing novelty - i.e. it feels soulless

Does anyone develop games entirely in an engine? It feels like refactoring would be a suicide inducing endeavor if refactoring meant touching everything in a Unity project, but the opposite is making a game engine that serves states which might not be something everyone wants to do. Small scope means you have N pieces to build, and N pieces working together needs to equal the solution you planned for. In practice, large scope feels like shit to work on because every day is a fucking episode of The Office, same day different shit, expand and solve last week's debt crisis. Small scope feels better because you have finite things to work on because you aren't treating the codebase like a "problem factory."

That means there are roughly 1,716,240 150+ IQ millennials + zoomers. If we take an extreme low-ball estimate of say 1% of them have some kind of creative apparitions like gamedev (personally, I'd estimate much higher, probably 10%+), that still leaves 17,240 150+IQs out there in the wild trying to make it as a gamedev.

Updated how turning and movement works. There was always a turn speed in Moku but it was pretty unnoticable. Made it more pronounced, and even slowed it down when sprinting. Walking backwards now slows you down to 70% speed. >>560647810>There's a lot more to getting a job than being able to do the job.If you know this, then you know that the person who couldn't qualify for the code monkey job wouldn't qualify for the game dev job, because "there's a lot more to getting a job than being able to do the job." I'm guessing you'll talk about networking or something, or there being a non skill related gap, despite networking being a skill, but the fact remains that it's insane that you think you're qualified to be: lead engineer, lead set designer, lead art designer, program manager, and ask the junior hats, despite not inspiring enough confidence in an employer for them to trust you to even answer phones at a help desk. I know you'll cope with something that evokes your "hidden potential," but that is indeed just cope. I'm guessing that the money you made from games isn't enough to sustain you. I personally made about 6k last year just from tips on reddit, where I trawl the frame subs and just draw people. This doesn't mean "portrait artist" is my job, or that I'm qualified to run a studio. Just weird that you would treat the vastly harder job as the "no other option" fallback.

hypothetically, what would you guys do if, in the near future, ai completely trivialized gamedev to the point that no human involvement was necessary and could make any conceivable game in an instant? would you still torture yourself with long hours of game dev if you knew the market value of indie games had been reduced to zero? these feel like questions we may have to answer soon.
>>560649197>your ability to make money is equal to your ability to do things you don't want to do.Your ability to make money is equal to your ability to be a central bank with enough power to convince people to use your money. Money is a fungible item that we use to extract away the value of a task because nobody wants to go to the store and barter corn for eggs, they just trade the goods and services for a currency and use the currency to trade for goods and services. Collecting money then becomes a game of doing something that's worth a lot of eggs. Someone, somewhere, can have offer a good or service that someone, somewhere, will trade N currencies for. This, is a job. You're not making money, you're being graded on how smart you are. Low money? No smart.

The millionaire goes to his studio and says "I want a game like this." For all intents and purposes, this is what you're describing, though locked behind insane amounts of money. In theory, they would just be a hit factory, right? Well no because games as a concept exist outside of code bases and art. If the guy with the game factory never thinks of a good game, then it doesn't matter how quickly he can make them or what the fidelity of the experience is, it's just a bunch of high tech shovelware. If we get AI powered game dev all it means is the barrier to entry is low and we just see the ugly insides of even more NPC brains. Steam is already full of this shit.

Very pleased with my vertex buffer manager and index buffer managerI've explained the vertex buffer manager before and how it partitions the vertex buffer by vertex attributes.Index buffer manager is simple by comparision. Its just bump allocation with device memory basically. Similiar to the vertex manager but without vertex attribute partiioning logic. In pic2 partitions in vertex buffer. 3 total vertex buffer offsets, one offset into index buffer. The way I have it set up is that you should only bind the index buffer once, even if the topologies are different (my example doesn't do this, I'll show it off later I guess). The vertex buffer gets bound for each partition.Maybe I should implement indirect buffers next.

>>560683346depends, you need to ask yourself more if there's a market for your game. You could make the best puzzle platformer hardcore game ever made and it still will flop.Genre still matters.A mediocre or even shitty JRPG can be a huge sucess if it has stuff like oppai lolis with generic anime templates, and will print more money than a high quality masterpiece of a 2D SNK fighting arcade game.My advice if you want quick money is to make a hentai game, or a friendslop idle incremental streamerbait with an anime isekai theme bout being a parody like isekai cashier at the hot anime cosplayer club simulator.
>>560690009I personally think story and characters matter more than people think.NOBODY would remember games like Undertale, Off, LISA, Omori, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, blah blah blah if they didn't have memorable characters or stories. Some of those are subjective, but hey
>>560690613yes, but story doesn't mean a long story.I've found that I enjoy more short stories like esopo fables or grim tales or fairy tales, much more than shit like mangas or animes that just stretch a concept with filler shit for 1k episodes.Castlevania SOTN has an amazing story because the story in that game serves to give context to the gameplay and theme, not to give cutscenes and long pages of VN material.I think we suffer from stories that are made intentionally long to fit a movie or a TV or anime. And agdg should look at beloved stories from folk tales or the bible or legends, which are usually quick.Greek myths are amazing even thought they're like a page long.
>>560685196r/upliftingnews
>>560683194This sentiment is cope. "Good" games that have a shit takeoff (bad at hooking players and good at annoying them at the start) are badly structured. Games with good initial pacing and that are at least decent otherwise will almost always succeed. You can deploy them across 100 parallel dimensions and 99 of the times they will get the spotlight.Don't justify bad immersion design on top of good gameplay corpus cucking you, just because you want your game a certain way. Just because you want it to be acquired taste or have the player work for it etc etc
>>560689727

I miss being a successful gamedev. it used to be so easy, I'd just make a game I think would be neat to exist and people would play it. now they like playing games whose appeal I don't understand like clickers and incrementals and action rpgs where you just move and choose upgrades and there is no npcs or quests or plots.
>>560715745>>560715936make sure you've applied scale to the mesh. make sure you don't have flipped normals where you don't want them to be.
>>560716125I did actually. All transforms, in fact. I even checked the normals. I'm utterly baffled by why it did this
>>560716260applied scale to the bones too? is that even a thing?
>>560716013Nu-gamers are retarded animals. They actually ruined gaming and I mean that. They are retarded and they ruined gaming because they are impulsive low IQ animals. You know in Idiocracy there's "ASS" the movie? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE5aKNAcU2IThat is gaming now. I make games for myself.
>>560716405Yes and yes. IDK why the fuck it does this
>>560716013>>560716423Why do y'all always want indies to make AAA movieslop for you? Go read a book, nigger.
>>560716484well I'm out of ideas. just chalk it up to some agdg schizo hexing you and do the weight paint instead
>>560716562Imagine saying this unironically when the most successful modern indie games have less gameplay than the average movie game. You sit on your ass and watch a number go up.
>>560716642Wait, shit, I checked the normals wrong.I feel like a dumbass
I just wasted several hours! Yayyyyy
>>560706654my game is immediately satisfying to play even with no graphics
>>560637429Saves me the trouble of listing a sound track when I can just go rip it nigga

>>560702515wait i was thinking of using shartgpt to write a legal notice that says i have telemetry in my roguelike deckbuilder for balance reasons to see which cards are overpowered/weakis this a bad idea?
>>560715846KEK is that a cris gaussian splat? it looks usable in a game

>>560716423It's crazy that a few years ago people complained that quests in MMOs are too boring and just go kill 15 goblins or whatever and now people buy games that are literally even more linear than that. I wonder if it's a generational thing or what, there is no way PC gamers from the 90s/00s would play incremental slop and such.
Huh?
another day of opening blender and feeling dread because i will waste hours for the smallest progress, i fucking hate blender so much bros
>>560726376it is he.
>>560726846it's not a Blender problem, it's a (You) problem. you need to practice goodenoughism.
>>560646535Do you play yugioh mongol?
>>560720197wow kill yourself good job
>>560726846for me, it's making the reference sketches to use in blender. i'm always scared i will spontaneously get worse at drawing. drawing is such rng shit unless you are good.
i am terrified by the scope of my game even though when it's all finished it's going to be a two-hour game.
>>5607356072 good hours can take years...
https://youtu.be/tZQd0SIvZmE?t=196One year of updating his game and he made $15, what can we learn from this?
>>560740762I can make $15 with a mobile game! holy shit, where do I sign up??
>>560741196You need to pay $200 in fees thoughtever
>>560740762that kid is 16, he can afford a few flops. I'm 61 and this is probably my last game

>>560726846>>560741865Just switch to Unreal, it has all of that built in but it's actually designed for humans and gamedev specifically
>>560744504cris tier ai post
>>560637257Any unc who were around 2009 when the recession hit can tell me how good indie games were doing? Games with tons of replayability should do well right?
I get better day by day. Art, music, programming, design. Gamedev is the only way of life sisters
>>560733942Yes, fren.
huh, i just realized that people can see my real name if they look at the publisher info section, wtf...
