But I doubt it's much different from chicken where it turns white once it start cooking. Stir until you see it start to get softer in the pot with oil, salt and maybe some juicy vegetable that would help cook better with water. Once it's softer and starts to cook add the other ingredients (my mom used to say it's better to add onions first because they cook differently or something idk but I always put onions at the bottom) and stir constantly. When you're not stirring, the lid must half-cover the pot. I'm also entirely assuming you're making it in a pot but anything else would work. At the end of the day you can always do a taste test to see if it's done yet and fit it to your liking.
