Just my two cents. Genned defs and hand written defs both work. However part of the fun for me is reading the defs and greetings. You lose the intent factor with genned defs. They are both functional but one is written in the same monotone narration while the other is ideally anything but.

If you've spoken enough to AI, you can suss out the isms, writing patterns and defects that can confuse an LLM's comprehension of instructions and tonality. These are your contrastive comparisons, your negative connectives, and commonly predicted tokens. A character's definitions will have a constant position in the context, so what you write there can indeed bleed out into what the AI writes in the earlier messages, and these earlier messages will then define the rythmn and style of what follows.
What you need to keep in mind is that, at the end of the day, the human reading through those definitions can kind of go suck a dick, we're not a /lit/ general. It's fine to use AI so long as you have a good grasp of what is bad in an AI's ouput, and what is good. Edit those, use synonyms, replace negative connectives with declarations (Ex. 'he is ugly' instead of 'he is not pretty'), write in a way that can easily be interpreted by as many models as you can manage, and then TEST IT. Test it until you can get consistency. Quality is going to vary wildly between users due to preset and LLM, so go for consistency and adherence to the instructions you gave. That is all.
Remember! People will only complain about AI if they can find out you used AI to begin with.

You should try to avoid using AI in the greetings as much as possible. People are already fed up with all sorts of isms at this point, so it can put off some of them if they see them early on. Isms will appear down the lane, but your goal should be to get someone invested before they do. As for how you should write greetings...just imagine the scene and describe what you see, there is no token quota you should hit, simply write as much as you feel like you need to to get whatever you want across. Asking the AI if they feel like something's missing or something doesn't make sense is fine imo, but it can talk you into adding isms, or describing pointless things or writing an entire paragraph so you could show something instead of just telling it with one sentece, so be careful of that.
