The basic idea is that non-lethal (or delayed lethal like fire) will let you reach more enemies or cover an area for longer vs shooting them directly. Think of frag grenades vs gas grenades or OPS vs orbital gas. One will kill some enemies outright while the other will cause an aoe that lingers, kills the weakest chaff and disables the stronger units. The speargun however struggles to make that worth it. Same with most guns with stun functions like the pacifier right now.

They found the best defence is large metal plates that can hold the plasma long enough that the marine can unlatch the armour piece and let it drop. Anything more tacticool takes too long to pull off and is a waste of resources. Going lightly armoured elsewhere also helped mobility iirc, which was a big part of the doctrine against the covenant. I remember quite a few times where a vehicle get hit by only a small amount of plasma fire, it quickly melts through vital components, and the marines are up and out and moving in to cover to flank.

Desickle isn't quite in a place where its worth taking fire armour for it alone anymore.Eruptor is still king shit. Crossbow is good. Coyote works. Censor does what its intended to do. So does Sweeper, Double Freedom, and Breaker SP if built right (mostly as dedicated jumpy bastard killer). I've not used a lot of weapons for a couple of months so I can't rightly say how they stand up in current balance, I know DCS doesn't feel as good anymore.

The place to throw your sentries is out of line of sight of where your team is doing an objective, or if on the move you throw them somewhere opposite of where you're going. The ideal sentry placement is one where the sentry has no sight line of the players. The enemies will find them on their own. Do not stand next to sentries, do not look at sentries, do not trust sentries. If a sentry is on the path to where you need to go kill it IMMEDIATELY.
