In my opinion, voice acting and heavy dialogue added a lot of noise to Sonic discourse. Ever since the games became more story focused, the fandom has spent years arguing over who said what, which translation is more accurate, whether the Japanese version is “better”, and if a certain line changes a character completely.The older games had way less of this because most of the experience came through gameplay, animation and visual storytelling.
