Would you play a fantasy harvest moon like farming sim that takes place in feudal japan / korea / china where foreign traders introduce new crops to the lands?

I am using Raylib 5.5 (an older version, and I can't really update because I have modified it a fair bit)
I am using SDL2_Net for the networking stuff, I am using cJson for saving/loading from file for my data/levels/entities(prefabs) and I am using ODE for the physics stuff that is too complicated for me to figure out myself (but my characters move around using a quake 1 style setup that I have created from scratch (with lots of programming help from chatGPT)

didn't have time to redo the attack animations today, but now combat happens on the overworld instead of loading the player into a separate map, and the player switches in/out of combat mode.
I can still load a different map for boss fights and such if I want. I haven't reimplemented targeting yet either.

raylib is incredible give it a go and you can use any language with it, I just prefer C.
ChatGPT knows how to use raylib too so you can ask it to make functions for you, I am all self taught so I am probably not doing things the best way but copy-pasting functions into ChatGPT and asking for help is really good, its like having a tutor with unlimited patience.

Only one banana today. Two bananas would be an extravagance. Tomorrow I'll hopefully eat lasagna, and donuts/croissants and I'll be happy for a couple of hours.
103 days left. Second day of adding sounds to my game. The sound system was already implemented, now I just need to go through all the sound packs I have or elsewhere, find candidates, clean them up, test them, mark complete or repeat. I've always been treating audio as a third class feature of my games, which is probably a mistake. After all even though I don't play almost any games from 20+ years ago, I still listen to their soundtracks and, unlike graphics, sounds age much better.

Yeah anon, use kinematic rigidbodies if you want to manually control enemies/player movement while still getting collision detection, but don’t expect them to behave like “real” physics bodies unless you handle the response yourself. For a player or enemy controller, this is usually fine: move them with your own code, use colliders/overlap checks/casts to detect hits, and resolve pushing/blocking manually. Use dynamic rigidbodies only when you actually want physics forces, knockback, gravity, bouncing, stacking, etc. Also don’t think of rigidbodies as “rendering collisions”; colliders detect collisions, rigidbodies just tell the physics engine how the object participates. For most action games, a kinematic controller for players/enemies plus separate hitboxes/hurtboxes is the sane route.

Nah anon, don’t panic and don’t rewrite your whole controller. If your game already runs on CharacterController collision + manual movement, keep it that way; that’s a totally normal setup. A CC is basically already a “manual movement collision solver” for characters, so swapping to RBs only makes sense if you want Unity physics to drive movement with velocity/forces. For enemies/players, you can keep using CharacterController.Move() and handle blocking, slopes, grounding, knockback, etc. in your own code. Only add a Rigidbody when you need physics-engine events/trigger behavior on some collider setup, and usually that can be a kinematic RB on a child/related hitbox object, not your main movement body. Also don’t slap a dynamic RB onto the same object and then keep moving it like a CC unless you want weird cursed physics jank. For attacks/enemy contact, just use overlap checks, casts, trigger hitboxes/hurtboxes, or CC collision callbacks depending on what you need. So no, you don’t “have to change to RBs”; RBs are a different movement architecture, not a mandatory upgrade path.

Spent Monday and Tuesday adding the "Reach" mechanic. When you are at least one dice away from completing a scoring row, you can lock in your score target and wager either HP or MP. The more I work on my own game, the more I realize game development isn't really that difficult. It is a long process and it's got a high barrier for entry but in the end, it's not too bad. It's hard work but it's not THAT difficult.

In the light of this, I cannot help but to look at AAA and wonder what the actual fuck is going on. They have all the talent and recourses and time and money and yet... they struggle so much. Fucking how? HOW? I am more convinced than ever I could do better which means it cannot possibly be just a talent issue but than again, it has to be. Evil producers obviously fuck up games but that's not enough to explain the entire industry. How is Assassin's Creed so shit? Am I supposed to believe the french pedo personally came down and told everyone "NO, make sure the cutscenes have no life to them." Did Spencer really tell 343 "spend the next year making Infinite into a hero shooter. AND DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THAT GODDAMN ENGINE or you're fired." It makes no sense. Is it really the producers fault Ninja Theory spent 4 fucking years making Hellblade 2 with no improvements and a story that ruins the entire point of the original? Even if the producers commissioned Hellblade, they should've been able to put together something better but they didn't.

On the flipside there's Santa Monica who are able to produce quality games at a reasonable pace. Even if you don't like it, you recognize God of War's success. South of Midnight took longer to develop than all 3 nu-GoW games. I think what will happen is that the Chinese will destroy all Western AA+ competition in the next 10 years.
In the past two years, I played some absolute Chinese gems that the devs didn't even bother to translate into English - also perhaps for fear of IP issues.
There is no reason that they shouldn't dominate that segment of the industry too.
What they lacked up to now is creativity but there are enough resources and examples available to dev improved clones of existing games for which there is a very high demand.

That's what the AI is for. I already understand the logic behind what I'm doing and I already have all the UI elements and stuff built to handle everything. I just need proper scripting between the server and client and database. I had a rough start with an issue but hopefully making progress now. I have the item populated in the world, it's grabbable and I can drop it to a new spot and the database is tracking it's location, still a few quirks but once it's clean and no issues on the open ground I'll throw it into the inventory json and backpack gui panel. Then on to the final beast...

Took me way longer than I expected, but I the basics of the system is working now. I can add actions and tokens on the editor, and various damage increment/decrement effects as well as buff/debuff token granting and removal are also working. It does not work with more sophisticated scenarios, but I added an option to provide an asset that will execute at the end of an action, so I can do custom effects that are hard to manage in the generic system,
It is hard to tell because the UI is not yet done, and the AI is not doing much at the moment. But it feels good.

I did this once for my other game on itch.io and it was much more difficult I found, I had to get a friend to help me who is much better at programming than me.
