Well,
>my 5+ year game
Ngmi unless my skills improved hugely. My copium was basically I'd somehow turn it around. Ended up abandoning it. Sucked but there was no other choice unless I wanted to dev for another 2-3 years and release to 5 reviews max, after a full month

I see it as a jobby. So there is no "relax"

As another anon put it I did a lot of things society said to do, yet I'm a 30+ year old wifeless neet wizard. I'm literally betting on this to work out.
>how do you know it will work out
I don't. Just some giga hopium that this game is the one. I felt hopium with the others but this one feels different and I hope it works out.

You mean the slop fest? Where 5,000 AI slop titles bury 300 actual games, making it impossible for games with less than 1,000 wishlists to be seen?

https://youtu.be/-0D1cWt3F_I?t=49

https://howtomarketagame.com/2026/07/13/did-ai-slop-ruin-steam-next-fest-june-2026/

>Small games going into SNF with <1000 wishlists were hurt and seemed to be drowned out in the SLOP pile.
>>
>>579027293
An incremental where you click something, or don't even have to click it auto clicks itself. And then these things come out little balls or coins and they go SHWOOOP and get sucked to your cursor.

Technically yes, but I'm thinking I need to withdraw from it and hit the February one instead

>>
>working on little UI elements and simple graphics in your editor of choice
This is the most comfy part of game dev. This little icon can look as simple as I want, maybe I put a little accent here or there. Just a pixel or two changes everything. And then you save it, toss it in your game. Done. It's the simplest most nourishing little activity in gamedev.
>>
I'm considering after finishing this game I just go on hiatus and back to playing video games and ... into the wagecage again *cries, slams fists on the ground, pukes*. The moment some big FOTM drops, I quit the job effective immediately, and work on a clone.
Requirements:
FOTM game must be a huge success, I'm talking 10,000 reviews week 1.
FOTM game must be easy to clone, not hard.

I really, really, reallyyyyyy regret not dropping that NGMI game of mine and making a Vampire Survivors clone when I had the chance. So many low quality clones did decent. And imagine my clone just happened to tick the right boxes and end up being a success? What a regrettable choice I made not dropping my game.
>>
>>579026695
Yes. I was supposed to be in the last one but I ended up running a playtest instead. And it was a good decision because my game is much better now.

Basically gnostic pessimism but you’re a fox inside a solarpunk stanford torus
It makes sense in my head
Gameplay irrelevant, probably a walking simulator or really just a 3D VN that pretends it isn’t a VN, but since you’re a small city animal you can go interfere with people’s lives without being noticed. So it’s basically all side content of branching paths of little domestic dramas that you walk in on and can change the outcomes of in various ways. 90% of the work is making a giant DAG of this and programming that.
Then eventually you try to leave the torus and die.
Oh and the other animals also talk and can join/leave you, and one of the bad ends is you take free food from a sweet old lady too many times and she gets you TNR’d
>>
What stats do you think a RPG should have

>>579027948
We kind of always knew this and Zukowski said it often that you really want to use Next Fest to multiply your wishlists, it's not something intended to kickstart your wishlist growth. But even that was determined years ago. The situation now is harsh.

>I just post progress with some tags. I haven't replied to a single post

Everyone would lie about it. Many already do, but that would guarantee that the tags and self disclosure no longer work. AI games would have to be "caught" by the community and labeled as AI which would create a toxic situation that is bad for business.

It will just be a fact of life we get used to. 80% of games coming out will be AI slop now. This changes some things but we can adapt. We're not going to ban it or filter it, people pay $100 to put their slop on steam and they have the right to not be throwing it away.

~Everyone would lie about it. ~Nobody would voluntarily disclose that. It would be like adding a toggle for “uses assets from an asset store”.

> working on boss AI and phase transitions
> tired of standard "boss hits 20% HP and enters enrage" tropes

How do you guys handle boss state machines that react dynamically to the player's state rather than their own health pool?
Specifically looking to build an encounter loop like this:
* Lethal damage threshold triggers a player revival/overdrive state instead of a game over.
* Boss behavior tree immediately shifts from aggressive/dominant to panic/demoralized.
* Boss state switches to surrender, evasion, or turning on sub-units/allies to save itself.
Has anyone coded player-driven morale breaks or forced-betrayal routines into an AI tree? How are you handling the transition logic so it feels earned in gameplay rather than a glorified cutscene?

So the UV map basically states where textures go? You don't just manually apply the texture to the model itself? May have to look into this further tomorrow.
>>
>>579049182
yeah. U and V are the horizontal and the vertical. you basically* select parts of your model and hit unwrap(U in blender) and it will calculate and give them a position in that map, which you can then apply texture to.
*can be complex requiring careful seam placement, it's a bit like cutting apart a shirt back to it's pre-stiched state)

Kinda feels like the time for small games is over with this. How the hell are you going to stand out from the sea of slop unless you have a longer marketing stretch and you can't afford to have that with a small game. I suppose you could make and finish a small game, start marketing it and at the same time start making the next small game.

bad drawings are more soulful and separate you from AI slop. plus the more you do the better you get if you are not cris. so after 1 game, you would be ok, after 2 or 3, basically pro.

>>579048006
>>the modeling itself
start with "traditional" modeling, sometimes called box modeling
learn the tools to manipulate the geometry and how to add to it
sculpting is the other option but it's like an advanced thing you shouldn't worry about it at first
>>weight painting (idk what this is)
weight painting means giving the vertices of the model weights tied to bones of the rig/armature so that those vertices follow the moves of those bones depending on how much weight was painted in
automatic weights in blender goes a long way if the rig is well positioned within the model and the model has some topology to account for limb bends
the act of setting up a rig is often called rigging the model and it is done before you can weight paint it
>>uv map (not sure what this is)
uv map is like the 3d model unfolded onto a flat surface
it is what is used to determine which portion of the texture goes where on the model
making uvs is a hassle and doing it well is a skill to develop
>>light map (how light affects the 3D model?)
fancier forms of shading will use multiple textures to define different qualities
modern PBR shading uses a bunch but you don't have to worry about it at the start

begin with by getting used to the basic tools of blender so that you can manipulate the geometry of the model effectively and then build some basic static models before you try to make characters

Having been a swe for 6 years now, you are not able to be engaged in focused programming work for an entire work day.
If I am head down programming, I only have 3-4 hours of my best and can stretch for maybe another hour or two at a slower pace with lower quality.
The really super good ones tend to work faster instead of working more.

If you are doing more than just the coding for your game, it's good to spend some time relaxing and engaging with things that will fuel your creativity anyway.

Yeah, what would make it look like AI slop is the twin girls’ clothing. I’d recommend giving them different outfits while keeping the same facial features. Also, as extra info, teenagers in the Middle Ages didn’t usually wear boots, at least it wasn’t common, believe it or not. I’d put them in different dresses. And for the mother holding the two babies, I’d make a small distinction in her clothing too.
Other than that, everything else looks fine.

what makes this look like ai slop is the lack of character. i personally like ai generated art as long as the prompter is creative. actually ai can do a lot of art styles and it feels lazy when someone just prompts something that looks perfect/beautiful.

>unless you have a longer marketing stretch and you can't afford to have that with a small game
You can get the wishlists needed to have a strong showing on next fest by just posting your game often enough, it's not easy though. You have to decide for yourself whether your game is actually capable of doing that, if you show it to a million people and aren't getting wishlists, maybe avoid next fest and start a new game. This will always be true with or without the slop competition.

Overcoming the slop in nextfest is just a fun new meta.

You're trying to do everything perfectly on the first pass. This will exhaust anyone and slow your progress to a crawl. You need to sprint through your milestones not tiptoe around them. If something is horribly implemented, you can come back and refactor it later. Or don't even do that, and just ship some bad code. This is videogame development. As long as your game is performant, nobody is decompiling your game to scoff at your code.
>>
>>579071180
not necessarily true, this is only an outlier observation but nodebuster released with ~300 wishlists i think, the game blew up after a youtuber played it
you can find success with low wishlists if you can acquire exposure elsewhere, the only caveat is the exposure needs to convert to enough revenue and provide high enough review scores to develop traction with steams promotion algorithms (however they operate)
the best strat is to focus on every strategy you can, wishlists + influencers + your own posts + articles, etc, but low wishlists doesn't mean a game is dead, you just gotta put in extra work and somehow figure out how to not only acquire views on social media but to also convert these views to enough sales to begin developing momentum on the sales platform
>>
>>579070060
>You have to decide for yourself whether your game is actually capable of doing that
I keep second guessing myself about that. Some days it feels like it's good enough and others I wonder who would buy this.
>if you show it to a million people and aren't getting wishlists, maybe avoid next fest and start a new game
I guess we will see.

>i personally like ai generated art as long as the prompter is creative
This kind of hugboxing between sloppers is destroying people. Deluding eachother that prompting skills will keep them from making slop. Then they take their game to the public and get ignored or called slop anyway.

The key to "fixing" AI art is not to make better prompts. You need actual graphic design, animation, modeling skills etc to customize the work yourself and make it totally unrecognizable as slop. And this requires skill which you guys refuse to learn.
>>
>>579071463
this is true, i would benefit from embracing lower standards
but i will not do this, i will simply embrace being slow, and modify the scope of my projects to ensure this slower rate of progress will still produce an enjoyable game

>>
>>579071491
You shouldn't rely on being the exception to a rule.
>the best strat is to focus on every strategy you can, wishlists + influencers + your own posts + articles, etc,
Agreed. Try to do everything you can.
>but low wishlists doesn't mean a game is dead
A game's ability to gather wishlists speaks of its appeal on some level. If you can't get wishlists no matter how much you try then maybe it is an issue with the game.
>>
>>579071180
Plenty of games have been successful with no wishlists. Plenty of games with tons of wishlists have flopped. Just depends on if your game is great or not.

Making a "great game" is hard, I'm just pointing out that it's possible.
>>
>>579071668

>>579071841
>If you can't get wishlists no matter how much you try then maybe it is an issue with the game.
undeniably true, i agree with your post, all i'll say in contention is that some developers will simply take the gamble of ignoring wishlist farming completely and rely on going viral, i've seen it happen enough times to consider it a genuine strategy
>make some slop
>design it to have viral potential
>spam it on tiktok + beg youtubes to play it
does it work? rarely, but it still does

>>579069046
You sound like someone living in a cave making a flop and brooding about it. You have no optimism about your game at all and the only answer for that can be that you're not showing it to anyone who is giving you positive feedback. So you are deliberately failing.

If you are making a worthwhile game, you will show it to people and they will be excited about it. Then you can dev happily ever after and know you're making something cool. Even if it does flop, you will feel 1000x better about it than whatever tf you are currently doing. Even if you never even release a game, just showing it to people and them liking it is rewarding. You don't appear to be doing any of this. You are failing deliberately. It's annoying to watch.

You could become competent in Blender in like ~one year. You can use a lot of post processing to fix how bad your texturing is too, like that A Short Hike guy.
>>
>>579041858
Not exactly sure what you're asking and the answer is It Depends(TM) based on your architecture.

In my game any character state object, including players and NPCs has a state_changed signal it emits when mutated. I also have a general battle state object that holds references to all of these character states. If you do something similar you could pass the player states to the boss's state object at battle initialization and connect something in the boss's AI to the player's state_changed signal. If you don't have a signal like that you could instead expose a function for getting character stats in each state object so they can reference each other.

As for making it not feel like a "glorified cutscene" that's all about how you present it. I have a boss fight against your former mentor where part of the way through the player cuts off his hand, which is kind of scripted, but I frame it as getting a normal critical hit. After that, the enemy continues battle and does like 1 damage per attack a few times until the player kills him or he just surrenders. I'm trying to work on making that feel less contrived myself but for scripted events there really isn't a way to do that sometimes.

So what do I do if I can't code for shit? Do I use visual scripting or just vibe code it? What are the best engines for visual scripting? People say UE is good, but I kind of don't want to use it. Orchestrator addon for Godot seems interesting, but there's so few information online.
>>
>>579072527
There is nothing wrong with seeking attention. You need to do it in a positive way though. Helping people, making art, and even sometimes game dev is more or less attention seeking behavior but it's much better than constantly playing the victim or straight up hurting people to get attention.

Fygoon is a genuine hobbyist who doesn't care about commercial success at all and gets all of his dopamine from posting about his game and that seems to be enough to keep him going. Food blogger sounds to me like a european who doesn't really need money because he is already set for life (like those who live in sweden or denmark). And he has a genetic disposition to craving tragedy and poetic hardship in his life, because his ancestors spent their life in amsterdam writing poetry about the war and drinking absinthe.

Code is the easiest thing to learn in game dev, much easier than art or marketing. The real secret to learning programming is to just learn the basics of functions, loops, and data structures. That will realistically take you like a month or two at most if you really put effort in. The more advanced stuff you can figure out on the fly through docs, forum posts, or AI. That's what any programmer does in a professional setting.
I would warn against vibe coding fully, at least at first, because AI will make mistakes that will be imperceptible to you at first but once you have a bit of knowledge you'll catch them easily.
I don't know much about visual scripting since I already knew how to code before starting game dev but Godot is very beginner friendly for coding, especially since most general coding tutorials are in Python and GDScript is very similar.
You don't need to be doing LeetCode interview prep level questions and a little goes a long way with coding since so much is reusable.

i also enjoy screaming into the void in r9k
my main hangup is a lack of confidence in the efficacy of my procedures due to my unwillingness to adhere to market insights as mentioned in >>579072696
sometimes i go rant about dumb shit to feel more relaxed and then i stop worrying and begin enjoying the insights peace provides

i am coming to the conclusion that your game doesn't even need to be good to succeed, you just need to be good at communicating anything at all about your game that people would enjoy experiencing
for example i don't like drinking, but i was listening to a song that mentioned drinking whiskey and for some unknown reason felt the urge to drive to the store and buy some drinks for myself, so i could get drunk and shitpost and play video games and then work on my game after i sober up, keep in mind i don't enjoy drinking and don't feel the urge to do it normally
extrapolating this theory you could assume even if your game has flaws if you do a good job of setting up a "scenario" that includes your game you could entice people into buying and playing it anyways, you just gotta be good at setting up a mental image, or conjuring a fantasy in the minds of others, idk yet i'm going to experiment with social media posts after my game has a build i can show off

but again, suboptimal games can be successful if the marketer can somehow create an appealing scenario for the game to be played, it reminded me of that fly game that went viral on tiktok because it made people feel quirky for playing it, picrel + links

I know about CS50 but I don't think I can complete it because I just don't find coding by itself interesting. To me the coding in game dev is just a means to an end and making art and other elements is what's interesting.
>>
>>579073007
Even if you use AI you still need to learn to code. It's not as hard as you imagine and you should only learn the very basics for game devving. Literally just watch some tutorials on youtube and replicate that in whatever engine, do that enough times that you get confident you put some small project together, should take about 2 to 4 months max. Once you get the basics you can move to AI but don't just straight up vibe code, ask the AI to help you engineer the whole thing first, make sure you understand what the AI is doing because if you don't you'll get stuck with untangleable spaghetti code that doesn't work together.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-nW4jvzRr8

If you have zero coding experience, learn with Scratch. It's the best way to teach children, many make their first game in Scratch and it will bring an adult up to speed rapidly so they can at least comprehend logic and how methods and functions and variables work.

Vibe coders who dive right into AI slopping code without having these fundamentals are basically mentally disabled compared to a child who went to code camp for a week and learned Scratch.
>>
>>579073684
What you are describing with both the whiskey song and the fly game is just good marketing. That's all. Some whiskey company paid the record label to include it in a song. The fly game found a good niche on social media.
Marketing is probably the hardest part of game dev for most people since it's so nebulous. There were a bunch of posts in yesterday's thread complaining about how it's basically luck and nobody was really disagreeing with it. Just keep throwing shit at the wall and see what sticks.
>>
>>579073684
>i am coming to the conclusion that your game doesn't even need to be good to succeed, you just need to be good at communicating anything at all about your game that people would enjoy experiencing
>even if your game has flaws if you do a good job of setting up a "scenario" that includes your game you could entice people into buying and playing it anyways

This is a dangerous trap. You can sell people on the fantasy but when they consider whether to actually buy and play your game, you're going to need it to have some good gameplay.

Wishlist conversion rates are extremely low for games that people like the concept of, but aren't fun to play or even worth playing. People will wishlist those games and that's as far as their good will goes.
>>
>>579073979
AI can actually be a very good teacher - if you use it correctly and let it tutor you.
>>
>>579072071
>some developers will simply take the gamble of ignoring wishlist farming completely and rely on going viral
Tons. Maybe everyone actually, everyone wants a viral game and nobody wants to market. That is our default state when making a game. This is why discussing marketing invariably causes some anons to snap. They hate being reminded that there are all these metas to gamedev.

For coding in general I have a CS degree and learned in college so I don't have a tutorial to share, sorry.
But don't rely on solutions. Try to struggle and figure things out on your own. Look up Python documentation if you need to but not the explicit answers to your problems or you won't learn. Make a shitty, unoptimized version that gives you the correct answer, then look at the solution and try to figure out what they do differently or better.
Something to try maybe is having AI give you some practice coding assignments, and anything you can't figure out you can have it explain in more detail. It could probably make you a whole lesson plan for 2-4 weeks that will get you where you need to be to start with games.
For game dev specifically I learned Godot through GodotGameLab's Slay the Spire clone tutorial on YouTube. But that tutorial assumes you know the basics and just teaches you some Godot specific stuff.
Also anyone who enjoys the "art" or "craft" of coding is a coping larper who wants to feel smart. It can be relaxing, and it's very satisfying to solve a hard problem, but the end result has always been the goal.

>>
>>579075361

>>
>>579075002
No. Do not learn to code from AI. It was not designed to teach you the way standardized lessons for beginners across so many languages do. It can mimic those lessons and you will learn many things, but you will be missing 20% of what you need to know because you're forcing an LLM to regurgitate the lessons to you instead of just going and learning to code from the source.

AI for instance cannot walk you through a lesson like this.

https://learn.unity.com/course/create-with-code/unit/unit-1-driving-simulation/tutorial/challenge-1-plane-programming-1?version=6.0

And if you just do a lesson like this before working with AI, you will be 1,000x more capable and won't end up crashing out as yet another slopper who refused to learn things.
>>
>>579075534
I only suggested AI because I learned coding in classes in school. I don't find tutorials to be super helpful because there isn't a great way to ask the instructor questions. Assuming anon doesn't want to shell out for a private tutor AI is probably the best approximation of that, even though it's not perfect.

yes, more spend = more views = more sales, the hard part is reducing the cost per purchase to a sustainable level
the motivating part is indie dev was never easy, even though it's easier to make games now, it's harder to market them
this is another skill to develop
will every post you make go viral? unlikely
can you eventually identify and exploit the patterns related to acquiring enough views to produce a profitable game? i believe this is possible
just gotta keep trying, optimize your schedule for this operation and train your brain to be better at recognizing patterns and it becomes possible

I see what you mean now. I agree as long as you understand some fundamentals you can then look at some generated code and maybe learn from it, as you can recognize when methods are being called and how properties are set, how values are returned in functions etc.

I'm just trying to always discourage new vibe coders being born. The AI spammer who killed this general is a crashed out vibe coder. They are volatile unironic victims of AI psychosis because nobody convinced them to take 1 week and learn to code.

I think they were touched up because the faces in particular just look too 'drawn' if that makes sense. Like the eyes are really crisp and I don't think capturing a texture on a model in a render would give that really sharp anime/cartoon look to them, especially if the model didn't have a completely flat face. And if it did have a flat face you wouldn't see the eyes in the side profile and you do. Seems like they touched up the faces to make them reflect the 90s anime designs in the sprites.

>>579082026
It is the string part that's wrong. It ultimately will make your code harder to maintain, typos a bigger deal and make bugs harder to find. It really shouldn't decrease flexibility much to maintain a data structure of some kind of valid items and have a function like use_item(string) that checks your dictionary or whatever and returns an an error like "item [string] not found" if the item it tries to use isn't in your dictionary. Your only additional work is maintaining that dictionary and if it helps you catch even one typo quickly it will have saved you time vs whatever flexibility you think you have.

They seem harmless enough for now. The thing that happened with YTC dev was that they spent so long pretending that generating images was gamedev and nobody could snap them out of it. Then they started to act like they were a big deal in the game dev scene. And this got actual schizos to attack them. It could have all been avoided.

This is something AI sloppers should be warned away from. Do not become another YTC "dev". Nobody wants to see your AI slop characters and it's not game development. Every slopper inevitably crashes out and goes insane.

I am jargondev.
I took a long break but I'm working on something new now so I came back and mostly just lurk here.
Ironically Lexica actually made me a profit and Jargon didn't. I really wasn't proud of Lexica and thought I didn't do the idea justice since it was the first game I'd ever made, so I remade it.
In hindsight obviously that was a terrible idea, I'm just stubborn and ignored all the signs that it would flop again because I really wanted it to work and was falling victim to the sunk cost fallacy.
I did the whole cliche postmortem thing on it and I could share that if anyone cares. But yeah plenty of games tried this idea and none of them were successful, I just thought it would be different for me because I'm special and smart or whatever.
I might have something together for next demo day, but I've really only just started development on it so we'll see. I promise it has nothing to do with Scrabble this time kek.
Not even sure why I'm responding, I agree that Jargon was a mistake so it's not like I'm defending myself. I guess since you're talking about me I wanted to say something.
And yeah Beyond Words spooked me and I wish them success but given that no games with this idea succeeded, not even the one by a popular YouTuber, it will probably be difficult for them.
Enough blogposting, time to get back in the mines.

Sloppers can't comprehend this. They really can't. They don't even notice that 3 years has gone by and the world hates AI more than ever.

They are brainwashed completely. I struggle sometimes to accept that they are even sentient human beings. The theory about hylics becomes increasingly relevant. They are operating some kind of mental operating system that is intended to simply try to wear down humanity into accepting them. It's satanic.

If they somehow matched GTAVs lifetime sales in one day strictly selling deluxe ($100) copies of GTA6 on the amount of available new gen consoles out there - they would only make 4 billion (once you include tax and console's take.)

GTAV has been for sale for over a decade. It's obviously unrealistic to say they could match GTAV's lifetime sales in one day.

It's going to take them like 2-5 years to just break even on what they spent on GTA6 (on top of continually paying thousands of employees) unless they have those micro-transactions implemented right away.

>>579092831
True, but obviously sales drop off like crazy after launch. It goes to a trickle afterwards, a huge portion of their money was from micro transactions on GTA Online.

Although, I heard they are doing micro transactions for single player now so maybe they got some new way to milk it.

The console market is different too, at GTAV's release there was around 160 consoles sold capable of playing it. Console sales are lower today and right now there's only like 130 million sold. Many people have both consoles and will only buy one copy of GTA, on top of that people are way more broke today than they were at GTAV's release. Just dictates that sales may be lower.

NTA, but you do understand that when you go to any restaurant, most of the items are going to be some reheated premade Sysco-slop. That's the only way to survive in this economy. The restaurants that tried to ethically source homegrown local produce all went under.

Slop is inevitable in any competitive capitalist system. Your options are to either race to the bottom, or be left behind.
>>
>>579100319
You drag into the folder directory from the actual file browser and overwrite the existing fbx, you don't drag it into the actual engine. If you drag it into the folder and overwrite then unity will update references of it automatically and shit
>>
>>579100575
You have to do it like the restaurants though. Put enough lipstick on the pig that they don't notice it's still a pig. Never post about using AI. Never disclose it to anyone. The moment someone peeks behind the curtain it's over. Deny but keep using it and don't make it obvious.

This is one of the AI spammers pictures. he has posted it hundreds of times here but you can't find it with reverse image because he is changing the file everytime.
So the result is you only find this image in one result, when you have already seen him spam it dozens of times.
https://arch.b4k.dev/vg/search/image/WmumjKKVjeAh71nk97YaPw/

As we all know, he does this with all the images he used to spam the general to death. He does it to avoid filters and because someone showed him once all the images he spams in the archive and it scared him realizing he could be easily tracked by being a spamming retard.

Compare to an image like this,
>>579055932

where you can actually look up the image hash on search because the people who post this don't change the file obsessively like the AI spammer trying to hide from filters and the archive.

You're not required to actually disclose if you use AI as long as it's not facing the customer. What will they do if I use AI for something that nobody notices and I don't disclose it? I don't have to do shit as long as it's not obviously AI. AI detection tools are pretty faulty anyway. Even if all AI starts doing the signature stuff Anthropic is talking about it's not like they'll decomp the game and check.
>>
>>579101080
You're not actually required to disclose anything. Steam policy isn't the law or something, they probably won't even call you out unless it's blatant. Valve uses AI art assets in their new hero shooter game and no one cares or discloses it.

I think the issue is most people generating art are not correcting mistakes because they aren't an artist to begin with. It's very easy to see when something is generated still. I'm sure AI will get there someday but it's not quite "there" yet.

Valve has an apple tier cult at this point and I don't even understand why. Its been like 15 years since they made a great game, steam sales used to have deep flash sales which is what gave their sales such a great reputation but they haven't had those in over a decade - now every digital store has sales on par with steam, their current games are laughably neglected and overrun with bots, their hardware is overpriced as fuck, and their store is flooded with garbage.
They fired all their artists and replaced them with Russians that use AI but people stick lift gaben's balls and pretend like he's a crusader against AI because steam has an optional AI disclosure that valve themselves does not use.

I haven't spent a lot of time trying to gen 2d for game purposes but from the genning I have done I would say you want to start by figuring out a consistent style you can prompt for with different characters and objects then that's what you build upon to get the design you're looking for. Not specifying a style tends to lead to those overly sloppy results.

It's hard to get results that don't have a bit of sloppiness to them but you can get good enough that it fools normies. As long as you don't need them animated..

Reminder betz is not a gamedev and doesn't even make v3. He just pays people to make it for him. The only thing he does is run a discord and pay for some 4chan advertisements.

How someone like that decides they are running the 4chan gamedev scene? It's a classic sociopath.

why are people proud of not understanding AI, it's a new tech, you are in a tech field.
No one sentient would be proud of refusing to have learned any other relevant tech to your job

AI is old news unc. You can stop feeling special for prompting slop now.

if you are still using the word prompting you are miles behind, you need to be training your own models, the prompting part is trivial you let the llm do

everything good in my life came from letting go and randomly being at the right location at the right time. i think i should also apply this to trying to find a good game idea, just letting go completely and if it's meant to be it'll happen randomly, if not, i'll just take life as it is.

Wow that's amazing unc you're so hip to the new cutting edge lingo. Educate us how to be a real tech god like you.

Reminder gaslighting is the activity of calling people insane or trying to make them feel insane for observing reality. Psychopaths gaslight. Betz is a gaslighting fiend.

all I want is minimum wage per hour I worked on my game, but that's reserved for the top 5% of games on Steam
>>
>>579124312
I think we just ignore those posts these days because everything is a nothingburger compared to all the shit he already pulled and he is the kind of person to try to make up stories about himself just to muddy the water. This is called poisoning the well and is a known gaslighting and information warfare tactic. Few people would go through that kind of effort to try and control the narrative of a message board, but Betz is insane.

Why. With gamedev you can sit in an air conditioned room, in your house, playing videogames on the side and make money. Choose your own hours.

That's better than any minimum wage job.
>>
>>579125840
but for that you need to be in the top 5% of those who have released a game. not top 5% of games you see on agdg but top 5% of those which got released
meanwhile a 16 year old who cuts pizzas (unevenly) is earning 10x more than most of us do from gamedev
>>
>>579125646
It doesn't sound real. I don't believe he has "team members". And the rumor about him asking one of the voice actresses for nudes lmao. Why would that be some kind of secret gossip. It sounds fake, but not difficult to imagine being true, but most importantly who cares. It's much less important than him doxing gamedevs who were in his expo (what he did to fygoon) and putting ads for gambling websites on our game trailers and all that. That's serious bullshit.

Nerds in 80s/90s had girlfriends and wives, the dating landscape was WAY different than nowadays with dating apps and no pressure for women to not be whores
Guys like Gary Guygax, Jon Romero, you name it, all had families even though they were huge nerds.
Zoomers live in a dating hellscape, they can only get that experience through dating sims like Persona 5 now.
Japan had a crushing dating scene since the 90s, that's where these games come from.

I notice in online gamedev communities they always get into drama, and i think they derive a lot of enjoyment when someone fails. I notice a lot of happy reactions towards that one trio gamedev failing in these normie discords.

It's not really an environment i like to be in, i like more honest critical looks at people that are mature and know how to communicate with each other. I enjoy that. I dont know if thats something ill find online.
