From what I understand, increasing your DEF (or MDEF) is kind of pointless.The higher the value, the higher the % reduction in damage you take, however, the required DEF stat to get a significant improvement increases exponentially.>1% reduction at 13 DEF>20% at 250 DEF>30% at 1250>40% at 11250>50% at 30250So basically, once you reach 250 DEF, improving your protection further gets ridiculous. Shield Cannon is strong if you upgrade your shield, but it can only do that damage to bosses once every minute or so, or not at all if they're immune to stun. But you are nearly unkillable, so you can get a merc or another player to do the damage you need while you just annoy the boss with interrupts and shrug off all its attacks. You also get breaks and everyone loves having breaks.

Fishing is good too, but you need 10k to buy land and materials to make a fishing table and rod. Once per month you can fish up a sunken object that sells for around 2.5m. If you happen to get any dyed weapons, those tend to sell in the 500k-1m range too. If it's untradable, you can buy a relatively cheap tradable weapon on the market, synth the dye to it while keeping the tradable stats for 50k, and sell it for a tidy profit.

It sucks because halb is one of the only weapons that can't do it unless they spec out of the skill tree.Breaking boss parts gives you more exp and drops (some drops from bosses you can ONLY get if you break their parts). By using [flinch] [tumble] [stun] [stop] skills, you can interrupt the red/blue aoe ground effects that enemies and expose boss break points (pic rel: https://files.catbox.moe/7pfp25.png). Then you hold your cursor over the point until it turns red (breaks). Most bosses have 2-3 break points, and the position you're standing in will show you a different break point (i.e., left, right, front, back of boss).Here's an example of how getting breaks would give you more exp: https://files.catbox.moe/yz6esy.pngSome of the later bosses do have 'counter' effects for these skills, so be careful. Counters usually involve them using a very fast, almost unavoidable hard-hitting skill, or getting a major defense buff if you use certain CC skills on them.

Nothing says that you have to inflict the stun/tumble/flinch yourself.If you want to take magic javelin to inflict status ailments it's fine, you can use regislets to change its element around (regardless of your weapon) later. Not what I'd spend skill points on early myself, but people do take it in complete builds, so it's not a waste (and it's on the path to Magic Impact anyway, which is a very useful combo opener).

>>1996209A couple of things as someone who was struggling a lot with the msq as halberd.Definitely use a merc, just hire one of the high level ones from the guild for free. Tanking boss auto attack damage kills you fast.Getting to level 70 is a huge change in halberd. Strike stab is a fast, low mana skill with good range on it. You can pair it with spike dart from dagger skills to get bonus damage from having an ailment on the boss.Use the +HP food from houses, 5000 hp will prevent most random things from oneshotting you but you'll still need to dodge aoes.More ASPD will help you generate mana and not get locked into the animation. the Quick Aura skill in halberd tree helps with that. Even using a high level merc, some bosses would just insta delete the merc and then me. Usually because the boss had some mechanic that expected you to have actual people in your party, so don't feel bad about turning bosses down to easy.

here's the guide I used to level a synthetizer to be able to dye my own armor without paying 1m spina for each. Keep in mind that once you get synthesis proficency to level 200 you unlock the 5th lock, but the fifth one will never be guaranteed (caps at 80% success chance I think) so if you have armor that you really don't want to lose then just settle for the 4th lock at level 150 which does have 100% chance to succeed.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnRvdoHoI4Y
