Damn I remember when this started.
Couldn't keep up with the pace after the first couple of games and bailed.
I see you got to tales of pirates eventually. Anyone enjoy it?

It was a bit of a mess. We ran into trouble finding a decent server and when we found one, struggled with the UI and resolution.
Eventually we were able to sort it all out and play the game; it had surprisingly good party play, so we often made groups to level up or do dungeons.
Ultimately though, it had little content, looked ugly and expected a lot grinding. I don't think it was a good game, yet I look back to it fondly, it was fun working together to do our best to enjoy the game.

It should be accessible, so long as you can remember your ancient login information.
Vindi's always been a strictly Nexon property, so if you've ever played it in the past, your characters are probably still collecting dust on their server somewhere.
Honestly, Vindictus is one of the only games on the masterlist I'd be torn over choosing between private vs official. Private servers would obviously be easier to get into and gear up in, but they have much less content compared to the live client, and Vindi's the type of game where character/boss variety plays a pretty big role in keeping things fresh.

As someone with a history in Vindictus, let me clarify a few things about some of the bullet points in this post.

>RISE
RISE was an overhaul to the combat model, gear progression systems, and difficulty curve to make all regions in-line with one another.
Windictus is built off the final EU "Extreme" client's pre-RISE patch from around early ~2017, placing it around very early Season 3 content-wise, and including EU's somewhat contentious regional changes. Retail is late Season 4 (about ~20-30 more major bosses/raids), for reference.
All major bosses on Windi's patch are still a challenge, whereas only late Season 3 and definitely Season 4 are where the bulk of challenge lies on Retail.

>Retail 1x rates reported to be very grindy
Reaching max level on retail can be a bit grindy, but level becomes pretty irrelevant past a certain point, so long as you're within the thresholds to wear the gear you're after.
Additionally, it's worth mentioning that current-day retail gives you the choice between how fast you want to progress through the main storyline to unlock content, and showers you with freebies along the way (gear, AP / VIP Capsules, etc). The game does turn into a Nexon title once you're nearing the lategame, but we shouldn't run into that too harshly within just two weeks if this option is chosen.

>26 classes (may be fewer on private servers)
As Windictus is almost 9 years behind the live version of the game at this point, and very much represents an older, more "classic"-esque experience, that added comment is definitely true.
Windi's character roster caps out at 9 (Lann through Delia), whereas the retail client has the full 26.

We'll have much more to see and do on Retail, but older content is still relevant on Windi, and the latter doesn't include the Fatigue system introduced in RISE. Both servers of the game are solid in their own ways for the amount of time we'll be spending on them (provided Windi comes back from the grave in time).

>How bad is the fatigue system shit?
Fatigue in post-RISE is primarily an issue when you're first speeding through the storyline for unlocks, which everyone will almost certainly run into at some point. By lategame, however, it's much less of a hindrance, and is mostly there to stop people from playing a single character all day.
Every mission takes some energy to run (even early ones) but as it's character-specific and not account-wide, having alts is a big help here.

Fatigue slowly recovers over time, so it's best to branch out and try other characters while one is getting their energy back up. Can be recovered faster through soaking in hotsprings with certain soaps active, sleeping at a Guild House (which we won't have time to build in just two weeks), or the clearly intended method of gaining VIP or VVIP status and using energy drinks/pills placed in your inventory every hour or so with said premium status active.
The MSQ on Retail does give you a few days worth of VIP / VVIP Capsules along the way, so it's not AS bad as it could be. But it is still something to consider.

>How expensive is it if I want to wear slutty cosmetics [on retail]?
Some characters already have pretty slutty armor by default, although the price goes up depending on just how much of an omegagooner you want to turn into.
Skimpy underwear and such is pretty cheap, but it's NX only, as expected from a Nexon title.
The "All Curves" full-body cosmetics, which turn your character into an extra from Queen's Blade with Z-cup booba, won't be anything you can remotely afford, as they came from gacha boxes and are stupid expensive on the aftermarket.

Comparatively,
>How expensive is it if I want to wear slutty cosmetics [on Windictus]?
Less expensive, but buying underwear is still a real-money-only sort of deal, just with kinder prices.
Notably fewer options to choose from given the server's age, however. "All Curves" outfits weren't a thing back then.

No problem. Cool to see this project make its way to Vindi, really do think it's a fantastic action game underneath all the usual Nexon BS.

Quick heads-up for anyone who hasn't played it recently, though: While encounter design can be brutally challenging later on, the early goings (basically all of Seasons 1 and 2 on retail) are VERY easy, to the point of coming off as outright boring.
Just like a lot of action KMMOs released in the 2010s, you have to steamroll through the early content for a few nights before getting to the legitimately good stuff.
If you're able to make it to late Season 3, or start chipping away at Season 4, you'll be in for a treat. That's when the attack patterns and overall health of bosses take a big step up, and you'll need to group up with others to have any real chance of surviving. Story-skipping can speed you there quick, although you'll miss out on the game's fairly decent storyline (by KMMO standards at least) and have zero clue what's happening.

Also, the game operates on a peer-to-peer hosting structure when making mission lobbies ("boats"), so be sure you have a decent computer/connection if you want to host groups for other Anon. Will host boats for early-to-mid Season 4 content on retail if enough of us make it there (and that server is chosen).
Already have like 15 characters at Level 100+ on the retail client, but I'll make a fresh one to not be That Guy with this group.

On the official Vindictus servers we're given a choice between Amercian and European servers. As I understand it, you can swap between servers at will, however, the characters you make on a server will not transfer.
The game is mostly peer to peer, so server choice shouldn't be as big of an issue as where your party members are located.

I made a poll in case we play on official servers:
https://strawpoll.com/e6Z2AR3q8gN

Also, my Tutamail didn't work for the registration. I had to use a Hotmail account.

Character deletion takes two days, so if you're gonna test out characters make sure you don't mind having that character's name be unusable for two days.

>What is it?
An hub-based action MMO by Nexon with a dark fantasy aesthetic. You choose from a roster of 26 characters rather than making your own, but you can customize them a bit. There's a fatigue system so trying out multiple characters is encouraged.
>Server
Retail, North American server
>Account
Sign up for a Nexon account if you don't have one, or log in through Steam. You can link your accounts later if you'd like.
>Guild
Can be made for 300k gold after finishing the guild story at level 20.
There's guild missions that earn guild points (GP) and can be spent on various things for the guild.

It seems like it's gonna be difficult to get the 300k to make the guild in a short amount of time. Did anyone with pre-existing gold want to make the guild or donate some?

The spirit of /vindig/ returns! No way I'm missing-out on this trip down memory lane, at least for a bit. (My usual name is stuck on a mule in this title, whoops. Should've had more foresight back then).
Heartening to see you lads are still going strong after all this time. Might not be able to attend every night, but I'll certainly carve-out some time to catch-up with the local Anon here when I can.
Feel free to ask any class/character-related questions if you're curious about who to sample. Took most of 'em up to Level 105-115 about a year or two ago, so I've a decent grasp on their strengths and weaknesses.

Big Nibba™ with Cestus is real fun (unsure about how well Pillar fares these days). Landing Smash Attacks in-time with enemy strikes completely nullifies damage taken when done properly, allowing him to become an unstoppable freight train on the battlefield, somewhat similar to Greatsword!Hurk.
Only real downsides to Cestus!Karok are relatively lowish damage compared to other characters, and how much of an nightmare he can be to optimize later on, due to needing to juggle several short buffs which are all crucial for his performance. Still had more fun leveling him than I anticipated, even if it was only for Vanguard bonuses.

Should have a few million (or maybe billion?) lying around on my old main, would be fine sending the Guild's creation fee over to whoever wants to lead it. Just toss me a line in-game on "Allegreta" (or just reply to this post, obviously).
Makes far more sense for me to just level another character from scratch just for this group, rather than potentially spoil the fun ("fun") of the earlygame for others on a high-level character, 'ya know.

By the way, if you weren't already aware, clicking the little "Ch." icon in the upper left when you're in town allows you to switch to different town instances, numbered 1-200.
It's a long-held custom in this game for any Guild to claim their respective channel number as their own, for convenience's sake.
What's our number gonna be, bros? Would be a lot easier to keep together if we knew which channel to land in after every mission.

Which character is the most "arcadey"? I remember looking for a character the last time I tried to play and I settled on Delia or the shuriken guy because I really just want to load up a big attack and use it, I don't want to do a bunch of long combos. Think MH Greatsword. The old kind, not like Hurk.

>MH Greatsword
If you're after the "slow-but-strong" archetype (even if it does have some issues keeping up later on), here's a list of 'em to try out:

- Hammer!Fiona
- Bow!Kai (Longbow Mode only) (Please do not actually play Kai)
- Delia
- Belle
- Kael
- Letty
- Latiya

Of the above, I'd say Belle and Kael are the closest to what you're after, besides Delia. Honorable mention to Hammer!Fiona for having the closest thing to the "charge-and-release" gameplay of old MH Greatsword, but the bulk of her effectiveness comes from being the game's premiere block-and-counter specialist.
Latiya is very powerful, and has rather slow attacks in general, but is more reliant on landing counters later on, somewhat similar to Fiona.
Letty is a solid "mid-range" character (NOT long-range - this is very important), yet as she isn't melee, her playstyle might not be to your tastes.

It's fairly quick to zip through the early storyline if you're just wanting to sample a character, so feel free to try out what looks interesting.

what drives a man to this point?
>>
>>2062517
Thanks anon, I'll definitely look into it. Some of them look pretty promising.

I guess what I'm actually looking for is, looking into the game a bit deeper, it seems like every character has to do like 2-4 normal attacks before using their strongest "smash" attacks. I kind of just want to play a character where you don't have to do that. I'd rather just hit the smash attack button and it does good damage. Maybe I have two or three different ones of those. Or maybe one hit and then smash, sort of thing. Is that kind of character just not in the game?
>>
>>2062853
Karok is the only one I'm aware of that can really spam smash attacks. Alternately you can look into characters like Miri who can do strong things after a smash attack, like her fiery chainswing.

No problem!
The cadence of hurrying through your Normal Attacks to get to your stronger Smash Attacks holds true for most of the cast, although it's not a total constant. Sometimes you won't have enough of a window to get a stronger Smash in and need to settle for a weaker one, or eek another hit in before going on the defensive.

It should be said that, while the pacing of combat tends to be kinda stiff early on, its speed picks up considerably by the time you've beaten Season 2. Even slower characters such as Delia start to feel like lightning (relatively speaking) upon receiving their freebie Level 90 armorset at the start of Season 3.
Additionally, once you've made it to Season 4, you often won't have much time to perform lengthy Normal-into-Smash strings, as bosses attack like crazy. Having a strong counterattack - or at least a good out-of-dodge option, is a very, VERY nice bonus if your character has it, as it often becomes the bulk of their damage later on in particularly intense fights.
