How true is the statement that XI's visual effects are all wrong on PC, that in the PS2 version all the effects looked different/better/correct, and its because of DirectX and all of this was somehow never fixed in all the years XI has been active, even after they dropped PS2 support. It just depends on your job. If you want to full time a Corsair, bard, or Geomancer you'll probably get invited to everything and geared up pretty fast. If all you have is a Sam or a dragoon and refuse to play a support class for better geared people, good luck. Free relic is ok for some classes. Don't get a ghorn. Oboro harp and basic instruments are just as good. Waste your mythos token on something good like a yagrush. Or a D-ring. Oclub is ass. Useless in 99% of content. Venture bosses drop parts to make salvage armor which is situationally bis, relic and AF+1 takes some effort and some of the augments are bis in some situations. On catseye yagrush is top tier, whms dual wield kclub, and spam mystic boon for mana/damage. Melee whm is useful.

The FFXI private server community is made up of guys who want to run the latest and greatest server in their garage for funsies with a bunch of other unemployed guys who decide willingly to babysit hundreds or thousands of petulant man children at a time. What makes someone decide to pump thousands of dollars a year into server hosting, DDOS protection, web hosting, and advertising? Then you get some queefs who end up playing there with real mental health issues who do things like send you fake DMCA takedown requests certified mail from some fake law firm or DDOSing your server for days at a time because you ban them for exploiting or hacking. Then you have to come up with teams of volunteers that you have to manage who agree to work for hours a day for free to catch and ban fish bots and solve tickets and for no real gratitude, just the feeling of meager self importance.
