kinda wish i found out about /mmod/ earlier.and by earlier i mean at day 1
I wanted to play Wonderland Online.
>>2719472If you had then you would have just wasted more of your life playing bad MMOs for dozens of hours a week. It's better than playing the same MMO for dozens of hours a week or Mihoyo games, or gacha, but only marginally.
>>2719724I haven’t played MMOs in years but I miss the era of wow clones. they sucked but the launch window was fun most of the time. I guess that feeling is what I’m missing the most
>>2719734oh the project hates wow clones, its much more of a kmmo fan vibe
did /mmod/ ever get around to project gorgon? rediscovered it recently and was surprised at how much stuff they added over the years and that its still even going pretty strong
>>2720133well, it's not a dead mmo.
>>2719734The WoW clones start to feel real old after a while when youre a year in>>2720123Same with the KMMOs, even more so cause they're selected a lot.>>2719472Still, welcome. We do revisits sometimes so you just gotta vote for the game you want revisited/
>>2720208can we add pokemmo?

>>2720492only voted for the absolute diabolical looking titles >also no LOTROkek lotro anon will be waiting awhile
>>2720356>>2720123about the wow clones: i did play other mmos too such as bdo, which is genuinely liked for 3-4 months. happy to experience some other non-wow clones
>>2720492>Fallen Earth ClassicWasn't this game completely killed and resurrected by fans?It actually looked decent but it's been a while since I last heard about it
>>2720573I can wait. I promised I would not be a thread schizo and I will hold onto my promise!
>>2721229Yeah and not just like a private server either they just straight up got the company
>>2721335like frodo holding the ring and schizos are gollum I want us to play pokemmo but idk if i will get my wish
I will shill Aion not because I think its amazing but because its timely. They're about to make the move to Aion 2 so theres a lot going on in the game right now.
>>2721352>pokemmooh man, idunno
I wonder how the other two capeshit mmos will fare compared to City of Heroes.
>>2721401its really fun and does have group content and guilds
>>2721412should we really invite the /vp/ menace though? they seem happy in their containment board.
>>2721338>they just straight up got the companyWait real? Did they actually do a good job maintaining it?I played very little of it, remember having cars I think? You could shoot guns as well which was cool
>>2721441we invited the cape schizos so how bad could /vp/ be
I want to go back to playing obscure dead shit where the server admins dont participate in our threads
>>2721910Same with guide guys. I don't want help.
>>2721594Speaking of, our containment has been breached and the /vm/ CoH thread has been discovered by the schizos.
>>2721910This. I do feel like a lot of project members want to go into known MMOs and have a red carpet laid for them. I miss when we were schizo and gatekeepy ourselves.
>>2721910bound to happen when these smaller servers see a sudden burst of over >20 players >>2722006have to agree with you both anon. mmodventure is supposed to be discovering this shit on our own not someone with 1000 hours telling us how to play the game optimally and guiding us. nothing makes me want to uninstall one of these mmos faster
>>2722060>I do feel like a lot of project members want to go into known MMOs and have a red carpet laid for them. I don't, seems like most people get annoyed when they start getting guided. If they ask questions on their own its different but a lot dont wanna seem to be insta shown max level content.
>>2721910>>2722051>>2722006this was always going to get co-opted into a /coxg/ revival. this is why the project was supposed to go for obscure niche shit and not step on titles with legacy generals
>>2722084I am referring to posts that wanted Thunderspy because their discord looked "welcoming". The pre-vetting of server communities that are excited to guide-guy is pretty lame
Is this guy talking to himself for the last hour or what?
>>2722117yup, everyone is the same person and they're all me. that is definitely what's happening.
>>2722088Well thats not happening, because while I like the game, I'm not sticking around afterwards and I assume same with everyone else. After two weeks I'm gone. IMO titles with legacy generals can use us all they want its not gonna work due to the nature of the project in that we move on.Also whenever I see any of the old drama brought up, my eyes glaze over and I skip it because I don't give a fuck. Its a two week stay so I don't give a fuck what happened five years ago. That /v/ thread was like 90% skip worthy.
>>2722238Pretty much this. People can stay behind and keep playing if they want to but it's usually 1 or 2 at most. The spam about this server or that server is the best and the other is literal satan is annoying but I just scroll past it. I just hope we don't pick up any of the schizos as permanent residents even though they don't play the game like other generals get.
>>2720492Broken Ranks looks awful. We should play it.
>>2722341thats the one I voted for in 1st place because I saw it was turn based
>>2722238What they're after is the /v/ thread that brings a bunch of attention snd legitimacy to the game. The MMOD regulars aren't who they're after. They're after first or second-timers who see the /v/ thread and choose to stick with the game's community over the MMOD community.
>>2722238>>2722293>I just hope we don't pick up any of the schizos as permanent residents even though they don't play the game like other generals get. This is the main concern and what sets one off is entirely unpredictable. judging by the state of the CoH thread best play with extreme caution.>>2722349I did see some attempts at discord recruitment yeah.
>>2722293We already have some, they can go in the pile with the rest. But yeah if this is an attempt to revive a general, by CoH or any of the games we played like Nin or whatever, its a bad idea. After 2 weeks the thread dies unless you're D&D online and Toontown it seems.
>>2722341It looks cool graphically.
>>2722351Well I did warn during voting the main drawback for CoH will be thread schizos and console war autism
>>2722341I played this when it came out and I confirm it's awful, I don't think there's even any value in a "so bad it's good" kind of way, it's just dogshit.
>>2722414Or Toram
>>2722414>After 2 weeks the thread dies unless you're D&D online and Toontown it seems.Spiral Knights' thread lasted for close to three months before hitting the bump limit and falling off page 10 yesterday, so we do occasionally stumble onto a game which has longer legs than anticipated. On the notion of lingering schizos, there are definitely certain MMOs in which it would be strongly advised to NOT link back to MMOD if we ever made pop-up threads for them, although most are too well-known to qualify for the project anyway (FFXI, PSO2, etc, etc). It's always a roll of the dice to see whether creating a thread for any given game conjures-up decade old mental illness to rise from the black morass that is this website in [current year]. We've mostly been lucky in avoiding much of it clinging to the main MMOD thread so far, outside of some fairly obvious (and likely sockpuppeted) trolling every now and then.
>>2722341+1 Broken ranks
>>2722006Hate guide guys, I skip games that I've played before so I don't ruin it for the fresh eyes.
>>2722535>Spiral Knights' thread lasted for close to three months before hitting the bump limit and falling off page 10 yesterday, so we do occasionally stumble onto a game which has longer legs than anticipated. The MMOdventure Spiral Knights thread actually already hit the bump limit in April. The thread that hit bump limit recently was a second Spiral Knights thread. To be fair this was a special case where the MMOdventure happened to coincide with the Spiral Knights devs coming back and updating the game again in a mini revival. Truly dead MMOs don't have lasting threads.
>>2722985You can play with us still just let players naturally discover things even if it will be bad for them or hinder progress. Players want to learn by doing not being told what to do or what is optimal
I vote for DK Online because it sounds like Donkey Kong online even though I know it won't be.
>>2722985>I skip games that I've played before so I don't ruin it for the fresh eyes.I just don't guide, unless someone really wants a question answer.
>>2722985Me and I think most anons are just winging it, but I agree that the guides can get annoying...
>>2723992I don't mind guides when it comes to informing the decision making process e.g. the guide on alignment and server choice for CoH but when it comes to in game I'm very much a "Leave me be to discover" sort of thing and only gets really annoying in we start getting powerlevelled or high level stuff. However I understand it comes from a good place. It's just someone being really excited that we're playing their fave game and they want to show us the best parts in case we don't get to it. So I understand there's no malice.Same with community members discovering us or devs, I don't mind that happening, in fact I think its quite novel and fun when they discover us and embrace us, and pretty cool when devs take our feedback like Nin. Just don't interfere in the gameplay really. Also I do agree it is starting to happen too much nowadays. This must be like the fifth game its happened this year?
>>2722985Very punishing games like Dark Ages or Nin do require "some" intervention because these games expects you to either interact with the community to learn or spend hours reading through batches of information prior to logging in. Old games are usually lacking on key information, so an already awful experience will only get worse for you if you don't know anything about it. Like many old mmorpgs, these games are built for you to make mistakes and waste your time but our time slot of two weeks goes against that.
>>2724080It's coming from a good place but they also got to know that when they first started playing they probably didnt have the same help and had to learn to do shit on their own or ask somebody >>2724222puzzle pirates anon was the only guide that was necessary in my opinion because we would have been stuck doing jobs for randoms the entire 1st week which a lot of us did anyways when there werent enough crew members on but it was nice to have our own ship when there was enough to man them
>>2724367Yeah, Puzzle pirates does falls into that category, too. In Dark Ages, a singular incorrect stat placement would automatically hinder your progress past Lvl 30 because you would be short on Health to tank magic thrown at you from across the map, or your damage would be significantly lower due to how the growth system works, where early stat placement multiplies the amount you receive per level. On Nin, simple mistakes like completing early missions will max out your mission count for the day forcing you to grind on monsters that give little to no experience simply because you didn't knew that holding off for 3~ levels will give you better missions to reach a threshold to start mini missions, then an story arc.
>>2720133isn't it b2p?
>>2720492What servers are there for Rohan? The official(?) playrohan one felt like borderline malware when I tried it.It would be a cool game if there were a classic-type old version of the game server but the modern one will probably suck like all long running servers of mmorpgs.
>>2724222No, if a punishing game is punishing then that should be part of the experience
Priston Tale bros.. every time...
>>2724739I was pro priston but I don't know if it would work well here, they implemented level downscaling in pristontale.eu but even then, how often would people here be online at the same time to grind in a party? The early levels are pretty fast with the quest system they added too, maybe around 40 or so it would stabilize
>>2724739>Priston tale bros> 0 1st votesIf you wanted it so much...why didn't you vote for it...?
>>2725629I only vote for it in my top tier because it sounds like Prison Tale which I find funny. I think thats a legit reason.
>>2725667Any reason is a good reason, hell, I'd love to give prison tale a shot...but..why didn't you vote for it if you want it to have a shot?
Would the project have worked better if it were entirely random what game is picked from the grab bag each round?
>>2725932As of right now I am more interested in Aion, then it was Defiance, then Priston.
>>2725940hard to say. with the voting, we frontloaded a lot of the popular shit that ended up successful on /v/ since people voted for it because it's the only game on the list they recognize.feels like this way we got a bit more>tractionin the end. I wouldn't mind playing purely randomly chosen games, but some people might have just not bothered if a really shitty game wins the random roll.It might be a good idea to eventually switch over to a random roll so we're not left with all the shit that nobody wants to play.
>>2725940absolutely, i just find it easier to be upset at people who pick what i don't like than being upset at rng, or something like that
>>2725940I like the arguing and shilling and drama caused by voting. it's fun
