I dont get all this distaste of Falkner's difficulty. The only proper comparison we can apply is Brock and Brock's team fucking melts against Squirtle and Nidoran so why make a huge deal when the same thing happens with Falkner. If anything both leaders are difficult when you pick a specific starter so its not a total bust and in general, its just the first gym, chill.
