is there any s/v set as good as Lost Origin yet?is Paradox Rift good? (it has gengar..it has to be good right?) (i dont count 151 as proper s/v set)
>>56180844Depends on what you mean by "good." I love Paradox and Paldea Evolved. They're both just cool sets. If you're talking purely market value, Twilight Masquerade. It boasts a $230 dollar chase card, along with a few more in the $60-100 range. Enough time has passed that one could argue the market has more or less stabilized on it for now, though it is still the newest set so we'd have to see whether the hype of a newer set has any effect. And Paradox Rift does not have Gengar. Temporal Forces does. And technically the "Gengar" chase is actually Morty with Gengar included.
>>56180883>Depends on what you mean by "good.Solid good set by value and overall community love.I still didn't spent any money on s/v (just on 151 and random cards-nothing serious) because i used to spend so much during Lost Origin - Silver Tempest - Crown Zenith. Those 3 sets were amazing. It felt good most of the time and it was the time of expensive chase cards as well.I just want another good set to spend time for.>>56180883>Twilight Masquerade. It boasts a $230 dollar chase card, along with a few more in the $60-100 rangeTM is a super new set.I'm pretty sure 1 year later it will be much much cheaper. I dont see how any of those cards will come close to Giratina to be honest...
>>56180883Just like what this anon >>56180954 said, twilight masq is a fairly new set and it seems shrouded fable will be a bust other than the greninja and kingdra promos coming out in august. Twilight masq also seems to have a really bad low pull rate. Factor all of that and that's why the greninja is going up in price for now.But just like the anon said, it is the newest set. With how card prices trend, greninja alongside other hyped cards like eevee IR will end up trending down come Q4 of this year with a new dragon set coming out, a new eeveelution set coming out, and the new rocket set coming out next year. It will be a race to the bottom to liquidate the card to have cash on hand to buy product in most people's cases.tl;dr if you want any of the cards from twilight masq just be patient and wait for their price to go down.

>>56180246ok newfag. its time for a history lesson. cards from gen 5-7 were from the factory in worse condition than what the pokemon company does today.clearly since everyone is hyperfocused on product, TCPI stepped up their game. with that being said. before this new wave of very fresh minty cards.TCPI was DOGSHIT with quaility. look at any cards from this era. they come from the packs damaged beyond belief. with that being said 1 little white chip on a card of this quality is frankly a unicorn. its not my fault that NEWFAG psa illegal spics working down in LA just dont know how bad it once was. good bait. you got me venting. but take a lap. watch this video. check his hits they were all ridiculously damaged. PSA changed their standards because TCPI changed their standard. its just happenstance that i started submitting my cards right when they started to GIVE A FUCK about pokemon cards again. >>56182609chill bro
I uncovered my card collection recently and it has reignited a curiosity that I always had when I was younger that continues to now.Do basic white energy cards even exist? I have a mountain of the other ones but I don't have a single white one.
>>56182609OK, that's a fine explanation for WHY the card is beat the fuck up, but the fact of the matter remains: the card is busted, clear PSA 9 fodderQC was atrocious in the WotC era too, but I'm not going to cope and seethe when my chipped and scratched (but nonetheless "pack-fresh") card doesn't receive a perfect 10what, you want them to grade on a curve?

>>56189098condition hyper-autists and speculators absolutely like 10s (or like grading for that extra gambling hit), even when the difference in condition between a 9 and a 10 is marginal (or often imagined), and even when 9s and 10s are equally good stores of value.i don't get it personally, but some people are hyper-fixated on 10s
>>56189098I mean, any basic search on any card site will tell you that 9s and 10s are listed for considerably higher prices and are selling so... yes?
>>56189098No one is arguing that it's not retarded, but it IS real. Lots of things in collectible markets are retarded, but they impact the market all the same. It's retarded that a card's value can be drastically impacted by what happens in an episode of the anime, but it happens all the time.

>>56180146Just bought my first pack in 10 years and my rarest card was a fucking flute.Thought I'd have some hiatus luck
>>56190118But doctor, I AM an investorfag who blew in after 2020 :(

>ordered 10 packs of Triplet Beat>cards are thick and beautiful>hits are good, even got that damn Magikarp >very few doubles in common cards so there's actually progress on completing the setI can never go back to English. I get it now.
>>56190363>>56190118oh, I actually do have some proof. here are some pics I took of a card store back in 2019. note these prices are all in Canadian Funbux, so everything here is, like, 25% cheaper than it seems (the charizard is more like $65 USD, not $90, for instance)
>>56190461forgot the pic like some sort of retarded person. more to follow
>>56190468>>56190461notably: PSA 9 1st ed shining mewtwo for ~$325 USD, about $1000 less than what it currently sells for. and as a reminder, these are local card store prices, so this would've seemed a bit steep for the time.
>>56190461>>56190468>>56190485>>56190118a few more. note: this is when Neo cards first started climbing in price, so the 1st ed Ho-oh, while a serious steal by today's standards, isn't nearly as drastic as other cards.
>>56190485But the anons ITT told me grading has no effect on the value. How can this be?
>>56190514kind of an odd takeaway.at the time, PSA 9s sold for just a bit more than raw "near mint" copies of cards. PSA 8s were about on par with or sometimes cheaper than ungraded copies. and actually, that's sort of the situation we find ourselves in today. i'd imagine even the raw shining mewtwos have increased in price roughly in proportion to the graded copies. could be totally wrong on that, though.
>>56190363Modern card art blows wotc era out of the water, and it's not even close.
>>56190468>>56190485>>56190511>>56190461>>56190118Reminder that all the retards doomposting (or, god forbid, making YouTube videos) about the vintage crash are1) retarded, and 2) pandemic-era bandwagoners who rightfully lost their shirts.

>>56190591Nostalgia only goes so far, especially if you constantly engage with it. Hard to still be nostalgic if you never let it go.
https://www.pokebeach.com/2024/07/new-crown-zenith-sea-sky-box-to-release-at-sams-club-long-after-the-sets-releaseA new Crown Zenith box in 2024? It's more likely than you think!
>>56190662Fuck yeah, I just started on this set too. Great news.
>>56190653Most modern illustrations feel too textureless and standardized. There's a kind of rough-and-ready-ness to older cards, and there's a warmth that comes from the artists who used physical media like watercolours, felt pens, coloured pencils, etc. for their illustrations. But there are downsides, for sure. The stock Sugimori cards kind of suck (love Sugimori himself, but repurposing default illustrations is a bit underwhelming), and Nishida's digital work sucks absolute dick. But I still prefer these older sets.
>>56190662That's so weird.
>>56189739based BREAK fan, I slept on these back in the day but they've really grown on me.
>>56190118Investors are supporting this hobby. And in 20 year's time, when you have your next wave of mega-nostalgia (or maybe zoomers/alpha will), you'll see an Evolving Skies booster box break and you'll be willing to pay $2000 per pack to have a chance at pulling one of the chase cards.
>scarlet violet block is so shit they have to print new GOD Zenith product to save their sales almost two years later
Has anyone bought Stellar Miracle yet? I'm interested in getting a few boxes to collect the new Stellar Tera ex cards, does anyone know if the pull rates for those specific ex cards are capped per box? Hypothetically, could all the ex slots be filled by Stellar Tera ex cards?
>>56192829Tempted to get a jp box of it yeahHaven't heard about the pull rates yet though
>>56192829They seem to be treated as regular ex cards, so yes, you could get a box with all ex slots taken by stellar exs.
>>56193069Ah nice, thanks for this info anon. The composition of these boxes seems pretty generous too, compared to the earlier SV booster boxes anyway. iirc the base SV ex boxes had 4 ex's, 3 AR's and then 1 SR/SAR. I guess Ace Specs are guaranteed in every JP booster box?
>>56192810Crown Zenith really is based, huh?>AMAZING art rares>Generous pull rates make it fun to open>Cheaper than any SV block set to buy at MSRP
>>56193075From what I've seen, this spread is what you can expect from any japanese set from the past year, sans any set without ace specs. And yes, 1 ace spec is guaranteed.
>>56193075JP booster boxes has fewer packs and cards, which actually makes the pull rates of the English ones worse since they get the same amount of chase cards as >>56193069
>>56192810more like they had an absolute load of crown zenith boosters sitting around in a warehouse somewhere
>>56190662Well, at least I can hopefully finish the GG set. Only need Raihan and GlaceonVstar, maybe Glaceon's price will finally be cheap enough to buy the single.
Is there any practical way to get old booster packs? I kind of want to open an ex series for nostalgia's sake but nostalgia isn't worth £600
>>56193708well if there were they would be on ebay for £590
>>56193708Go to a secondhand store and look at their stock of singles? It's awkward, but it's far cheaper and you can choose which cards to buy.
>>56193709I just don't understand who's buying them because if they're being listed for that much someone must be selling them. Sure, some of the old cards now go for huge amounts but the chance of getting one is still low. There's no way that the gamble pays off at over half a grand a go
>>56193761Investment fags who want to resell them in 5 years for double the price
>>56193761Part of it is just that unopened packs themselves are valuable irrespective of what they contain. I wouldn’t mind having a couple unopened WotC packs just for the sake of owning a complete packThe other big aspect is that people gamble on PSA 10s. That is, some people are hoping to rip open an old pack, luck out and get the one big chase card in the set, then luck out again and get a perfect grade on that card.
>>56193796>I wouldn’t mind having a couple unopened WotC packs just for the sake of owning a complete packYeah, this I can understand. I try to keep some sealed stuff from the sets I collect in full. >That is, some people are hoping to rip open an old pack, luck out and get the one big chase card in the set, then luck out again and get a perfect grade on that card. This is just insane though. Just because it worked for Logan Paul, a literal millionaire who may have fudged some of his results anyway. You are not that lucky, average Redditor.

>>56194278Nice. Please rerelease Triplet Beat too, based nips.
>>56186181I know someone who is the opposite of that and goes hard on the investorfag bullshit to the point where he might have a problem since he's slowly building a room of sealed shit so he can flip it in 5-10 years. He kinda ruined collecting for me since anything i get, even as a simple collector, isn't "worth it" because it doesn't have "long term growth potential". I worry about him but he is allowed to ruin his life.
>10
>>56186181>>puts it in a loose, soft binder with all his generic cards just to admire the art.get dunked on, slabhead
If you want to preserve rare cards that's fine, but if you're protecting them purely for 'value growth' then you're not a collector, you're an investor.
>>56195106Don't let him get in your head. Besides, he knows jack shit about what the market will do in the future. I think if you collect what you like and you try to get good deals, you will always at least break even anyway, so why worry? I have some sealed stuff, but I only got that because I loved the way it looks and because it suited my collection (the Grafaiai Ex box for example, I just think it's really cool looking even though no one else seems to think so lol). If I am ever forced to sell it, or I want to get rid of it, I probably won't lose money on it. That pleases me, of course. But a collection shouldn't only be about big profits and thinking that way takes away the fun of it.
>>56197710Nice
>>56197710Is this the worst pokemon? I guess the gay duck is bad as well
>>56190468>>56190485>>56190511Looking at these prices knowing what they go for today simply brings me to hysterics. Getting these cards for these prices now isn't even fathomable. But, like you mentioned, at the time these prices were probably high. And I'm fairly certain that if any of us, even if we loved pokemon cards, saw these cards back then we'd think "man that shit is fucking expensive I'm not spending over $100 on a single card!"Now look at us...
>>56190514No one said it didn't increase the monetary value of cards. Sorry you're stupid!
>>56199225What are you doing with reverse holos? I don’t like them because they’re like the losing ticket of the pull lottery. And they ruin the collection.
Finally saw the carmine SAR in person and it might be the best full art trainer behind Ultra Prism Lilie. If only I had $30 more I would have gotten it.

>>56199701what is he gonna do to him
>>56199291I bought a whole bunch of even quite expensive cards from 2016ish onward. But my god I wish I bought a lot more.
>>56200704I was so broke and concerned with school that buying cards wasn't even a thought that entered my mind. I'm unsure if the ego I had at the time would have let me purchase cards, I'd like to think I would get over it and buy them -- but who knows. Glad you got 2016 prices, anon.
>>56200505Why do I need multiple?
>>56200505what are you talking about?
>>56201496I miss my old Victory Piece Ace Spec that I pulled back in the day. I regret selling my old collection to be honest. The new Ace Specs look cool but don't fill the void fully.
>>56198280It's just super irrelevant. I like the full art EX from Steam Siege though, but that set is literally the most relevant this guy has been in any Pokémon media really.
Should I just keep this to invest? My luck has been pretty bad lately :(
>>56202065Up to you, anon. But if you do open it, I wish you luck!
>>56199225>>56199310Wait, do people actually dislike reverse holos? That card looks sick and there's something really satisfying about getting a full evo line in reverse holo, which you can't get with regular holos.
>>56202065you usually get 2-3 shiny cards out of thesei don't think they have invest poweropening them is fun though>>56202087jp reverses look sick because they're actually rare and the card treatment is betterenglish reverses look shitty
>>56200818I was also pretty broke, making money from odd jobs here and there while I did grad school. TAing paid well, but I think it was only 12-15 hours a week or something.I remember buying a PSA 8 Shining Charizard for about $250 in 2017. I seriously regretted it, thought I overpaid, thought it was profoundly irresponsible (which it was, even with hindsight). But now I just wish I'd bought it 1st ed lol. I guess I could -- it's probably about the same proportion of my income as the unlimited Shining Charizard was back in 2017. Just feels wrong to spend $2000+ on a card.
Any vintagefriends hit a point where all their easy-to-obtain cards have been easily obtained and now all that's left are the ungodly expensive cards?I swear, the cheapest cards on my to-buy list now start at $300-500, and the true White Whales all start at $1500-$2000. What do you do at this point?
>>56202793Do what I did and realize you only ever really cared about base set through team rocket anyway
>>56202821lol very true. I think I've got the most fondness for the starlight holofoils. I do like the Neo cards, though. As a kid, I was collecting into the third or forth set in the generation. And even within Base, I wouldn't mind upgrading to 1st editions.
>>56201245>>56201686There's 4 different ones. They're the same at a surface glance, but they each have different e-reader data.
>>56203185You can tell which one the card is by the ID on the artwork border. >>56200505 is Z-01-a which gives the green Kecleon.
>>56202793>>56202902I know what you mean. Though, I don't plan on completing sets (at least, I don't plan on it right now). So I'm just collecting my favourite cards from all rarities. Even still, the price racks up super fast.
Can anyone recommend binders? I'm trying to buy Ultra Pro eclipse binders as I want them colour-coded to match the energy types but they're sold out in most places that ship to the UK. Are there any good alternatives or am I sol until they restock?
>>56203528you can still get some of the eclipse 9- and 12- on amazon uk but colours are limitedI can understand them being sold out though, I've bought 2 and found them top drawer

>>56205935would be better if it was worded this way>Discard an energy from 1 of your pokemon and remove 3 damage counters from it. you may discard another energy from the same pokemon and if you do, remove 2 more damage counters from it.
>>56191089Wish i had stores near me with selections like these. Living in a small town fucking sucks
>>56206329cool painterly aesthetic. brings to mind the grand, apocalyptic paintings of john martini almost exclusively collect vintage, but even i have a soft spot for these four
>>56206349What if it only has four damage counters on it?
So, for the first time since I was a kid, I'm buying new packs again and I've started collecting Twilight Masquerade because I love Ogerpon, and the general set aesthetics. I really just want both full art Carmine cards, however, because I can't afford to continue buying new packs in the hope I get maybe one or two cards I like. My question is, does anybody have any kind of pull rate or average number of packs to get these cards. I'm not wealthy enough to throw the money I think I'll need to at blind chances. I've worked out that I've opened 33 packs so far, and the rarest card I have is probably Tera Cornerstone Ogerpon EX, of which I don't even really like.
>>56206822I'm strongly considering buying the carmine but the Marnie, Miriam, and Erika's Invitation losing half their value makes me not want to.
>>56206822well SIRs like carmine are always going to be expensive if it's a waifu print. plus twilight masquerade has quite a horrid pull rate for the real chase cards, hence why her and SIR greninja are so bloody expensive this set.you're much better off buying the single rather than ever hoping to pull it.packs are gambling, fun to open but guarantee nothing.
>>56206838>>56206866I appreciate the info and advice, and I appreciate not being called a faggot for not knowing this stuff even more. These are some sobering figures.
>>56206822opening packs can be fun, but you're almost always rendering $5 into 50 cents. if you're looking for any particular cards, just buy them outright and save yourself the money/frustration

Are these cards worth anything also why did they make the e-reader holographic cards you cant scan?>>56205939If you can't keep it, was it really ever yours to begin with?
Also do these lose value if you take them out of the plastic wrapper?
WHY THE FUCK IS THE FROG SIR OVER $300
>>56207104Wait until Shrouded Fable
>>56207094Yeah, being sealed can add a bit of value. But neither of these are really big ticket items or anything. Market's kind of fucked and these things seem to sell for all sorts of zany prices, but you can pretty reliably find both for 20-30 bucks -- not much more than they're worth opened in good shape.
>>56207104A mix of market manipulation, and desperation in trying to create another moonbreon.
>>56207206Thanks for the info>>56207210Like this umbreon can I sell it?
>>56207252What does "Kametsuku" mean? Also is this card worth anything despite the damage on it?
Aren't these like the most powerfull pogeyman ever or something? Should they be worth like $100k or more?
>>56207279I just realized I have three of em! I have like allmost $1 million here!!
Wah I remember these from a meme!!!These also have to be wroth $1,000's!! Man I'm rich!!
I have all the poygemans now!!
i found these two in my childhood collection.honestly pissed off that i miss the first secret rare 'zard to complete these, this feeling must be why people pay so much money for these silly cards
Isn't this card a coomer card? So shouldn't it be valuable?>>56207331Lol you kept your poygeman cards kek
Look I have more rare pogymans!!

Will there ever be a place to find Scans from the 基本拡張パック Base Expansion Pack? Bulbapedia has nice scans of the English cards but no Japanese. How does the official Database only start at BW era?
>>56207990never used any but vaultx is a decent brandthem or ultimate guard will see you right
>>56207104People need something new to pump as all other cards that have been recently pumped (moonbreon, giratina v, lugia v, blaziken vmax, some TG cards, etc) have all dropped in price by about 10~20+% from recent peak. Basically what >>56207210 said.>>56207157Shrouded fable looks to be a weak set since it's just night wanderer but with 3 more IR cards from mask of change. Though if there are any notable cards shitters would pump in that set, it would be the IR cards mainly the persian, the duskull line, and the zorua cards. At least we're getting 2 cool promos out of it, the ukiyo-e style greninja and kingdra.
>>56207355Congratulations you finally posted a card with monetary value.

>>56209394Who are you showing your binders usually? Would you be happy if there was an app or something dedicated to showcasing collections?
>>56209950>Would you be happy if there was an app or something dedicated to showcasing collections? No. Because what makes showing your binder and personal collection to friends so amazing is that they don't immediately have access to viewing hundreds of collections that are 100x the value of yours. No one would care about the personal collections and stories associated with a collection when you can just look at SMPratte's or similar collection on an app. They need the story, the history, the context associated with them. That's where the soul is. Otherwise we'll just all gravitate to the most expensive collections to look at and fawn over.

>>56210365Down 100usd from the peak 2 months ago and still gradually going down.

>>56208305>Will there ever be a place to find Scans from the 基本拡張パック Base Expansion Pack?Pokéos has them. Not the best quality in both scans and site navigation, but it's there.>How does the official Database only start at BW era?A card database wasn't added to the official Japanese TCG site until 2012. The earliest archived page for it mentioned that the cards in the database go back as far as October 2006. I assume because of playable formats at the time, seeing no need to add older cards even though the products page go all the way back to the beginning. On an odd side note, the Wayback Machine barely has any archives for pokemon-card.com from 2008 - 2010. I wonder why.

Do these look real? Borders and font look fine but its hard if gx tag teams are real cause of lack of texture.

>>56212461Like the rip test? I dunno, im trying to buy these. How does the back look? The yellow seems lighter than other cards
>>56210808truly retarded, but i can kind of respect the unhinged-nessyou could have bought multiple of each card for the price you paid here, though. I seriously hope you're not actually opening these packs or, better yet, this is all a big LARP
>>56212995NTA but you can see the blue line if you look at the edge of the card. If you're buying these though it may be difficult to get a picture of that.
>>56211625Nice pulls and very nice gulpin, Anon.I agree that jp boxes are better than the eng with semi-fixed hits (since you can sometimes get a double hit box in JP) as well as cheaper and of better quality. It also helps that pokemon jp will reprint boxes to curb after market scalping.
>>56212182Thanks for sharing, anon and nice well loved cards. It's great to see other anons collections, Though I mostly collect waifus and modern cards, vintage will always have its own charm.
