Konpeito Bowl Edition

>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

If the Pokémon this card is attached to is Knocked Out by damage from an attack from your opponent’s Pokémon, search your deck for up to 3 cards and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

I've been looking up Ancient decks only to see that people only really use Roaring Moon in combat. Coming off of YGO I thought that these PKMN TCG decks that just beatdown and Boss' Orders looked boring and wanted to try a toolbox deck. I looked forward to identifying a problem and using things in my deck to deal with it. Did I misunderstand the concept of a PKMN TCG toolbox deck?
>>
>>56520429
What are you actually trying to say? There are some more complicated decks and control, but Roaring Moon is not one of them. It's one of the most unga decks out there.
>>
>>56520453
Apologies. My post does seem a bit unreadable haha.
I guess any general deckbuilding advice would be fine thank you. I've been passively playing for a while now but I've been struggling with it quite a bit when it comes to building a deck. If that's too vague then let's just say an Ancient deck for now. I've tried Roaring Moon ex, Chien Pao ex and Miraidon ex but currently I crave something more interesting, dynamic and technical.
Had my eyes on Ogerpon but what turned me off of that was the best way to play it being cramming in some Dragon-type Pokemon. That about does it.

Over the years 'box' decks have lost their meaning. Ancient Box is, as you said, basically just Roaring Moon with the niche option to mill your opponent with a Great Tusk late in the game. It's not actually a toolbox in any sense. Gardevoir, by comparison, is never called a toolbox, but chooses weather to attack with Gardevoir ex, Scream Tail, Flutter Mane, Drifloon, or even Munkidori depending on what best suits the situation. Even that pales in comparison to old toolbox decks that completely changed gears depending on what the opponent was playing, like pic related.
>>
>>56520429
There's really not that much options for complicated decision making in the current format. The only one I can think of that has you thinking over 10 mins a turn is Pidgeot Control, and even then it's more of a stall deck than anything.
>>
dumb question, I'm about to craft cards and I see that , for example, Pokèmon Catcher or Pokégear have a foil version that costs the exact same as the standard version (40) , why is that?

Decks that rely heavily on abilities, primarily charizard, gardevoir, lugia. Ones using ogerpon too like regidrago struggle, while others that are semi-reliant like raging bolt can still get energy in play even without ogerpons. Decks like dragapult just don't care about abilities so they get a completely free match up
A lot of the current meta is reliant on abilities, even from turn 1 with squawk and using mew/fez to draw after hand disruption. Iron thorns is currently the only way to turn off abilities in format, so people don't respect it as much. There used to be a stadium card which was iron thorns effect, that saw A LOT of play

I'm at the point where I'm almost guaranteed to pull minimum 100 crafting points per Stellar crown pack. How many credits do you guys usually make per expansion (and how many codes do you manage to redeem)?
>>
>>56524848
Not too sure, I usually buy a couple of celebrations bundles with crystals after the battlepass ends, so I can craft all the full arts I wanted from the previous battle pass set that I didn't manage to pull from it
>(and how many codes do you manage to redeem)
Only ever the battlepass I don't buy extra, then twitch drops if they do that (only like 6 packs anyway). but that's mainly so I can get the new ETB sleeves/deck box since those were also the reward
>>
What is the tier ranking of these decks?
>>
Is there a good product to buy if I want to get into this game? I know a local store carries Battle decks, but I have no idea if that's worth it. i mainly play Bandai card games so I'm use to the idea of buying a couple starters and getting a usable deck out of it.

>>

>>
>>56525450
Anyone? I'm considering just buying the Lucario ex Battle deck and going from there but I just want to make sure I'm making a decent choice.
>>
>>56525450
Not really. The battle decks will give you at least something to play, but they're still pretty far from viable in even casual league tournaments. They usually provide you some good staples, but the cost of those staples on their own would typically be lower than the cost of the prebuilt deck. Typically the most cost-effective thing is to simply look up decks on limitlesstcg and then buy the exact singles you need for the decklist. And if you really felt like it you could grab an etb for the storage/card sleeves/damage counter dice. But it's not uncommon for local shops to have those sort of things that they might be willing to give out for free to new players.

In my opinion the best way to introduce yourself to the game is first to download tcglive and play it a bit so you can learn the basic mechanics and experiment with some decks. Then prereleases are a great way to ease into in-person events since they provide you with a basic deck and put everyone on the same playing field.

not really, unless you absolutely want the dice, sleeves and a box to store your bulk. And even then some lgs or ebay sell those separately and much cheaper without boosters.
You're better off buying a level 3 pre-built deck and singles to improve it, along with some better sleeves

Also the Azelf has a 10x the number of damage counters on your opponent's board attack. Radiant Tsareena is probably going to see a surge in play as Dragapult gets more and more popular, but after rotation this seems like a pretty solid deck that would want to take 6 prizes in one turn like those old Tapu Koko/Espeon EX decks.
>>
>>56527305
It allows you to bypass acceleration restrictions. Stuff like gardy could run iron hands + luminous energy to pick up multi prize KOs. While still having a damaged scream tail or balloon on the bench ready essentially checkmating them
There's probably some other combos like with stellars I'm not thinking of. Iron hands seems like the most obvious answer for any deck that can easily stack energy

Any suggestions here? I'm new to Pokèmon TCG (coming from Yugioh) and I decided to build Terapagos as my first competitive deck (since I had to craft only 500 credits worth of cards). I still don't understand how do I manage situations where I have another Pokémon that's not Terapagos on my main bench (like Hothoot etc) since I have to burn on of my only 4 energies to retreat it and swap it. I think I want to boost Colress to 2 and maybe cut Night Stretcher for some energy recovery card? Also some people play 2 Pidgeot Ex and 2 Pidgeys but I feel like they brick too much. Also let me know the best way to share decklists here.

some lists play 1 or 2 copies (mostly 1 I think) of Jet Energy for the pivot, works against control as well
don't mind anything getting stuck in the active, because after it gets ko'd you can promote pidgeot and retreat
it's not bad to give a single prize sometimes, there's a few times where you can
>dusknoir ko a single prize
>briar and ko for 3
or
>dusknoir for softening
>briar for 3

honestly, terapagos is really good if you win the coin flip and go first

If i wanted to make a spider man deck, with only spiders, what would be an appropriate draw support pokemon? I know there aren't any draw support spider cards but are there any bug ones? I always thought we'd get energy for stellar mons, but in the end they were just tagged as "tera" with no change compare to regular teras. So any rainbow energy-like one you give to teras, stuff like dragapult will also abuse it
We desperately need ancient and future special energy though, they fucking suck currently. They're similar to rapid/single strike but lack the energy/support those archetypes did

Dunno if you know about the ex Delta series of cards but Holon was a lab that researched delta species, which were Pokémon that had abnormal types. These energies fit in with that theme I guess.

Not really any unofficial ones around. The TCG online scene isn't that big. The official client is fine in what it does. You just can't do unofficial/old formats like you're wanting though. Your best bet for that is doing card proxies irl or on tabletop simulator, but you'd need to find a friend to play that with since you wont have online matchmaking like showdown for that.
>>
>>56528856
Like I said, I don't know anything about the card game and that also includes people coming up with unofficial versions. So I'm sorry I didn't realize that Twinleaf was supposed to be the name of an unofficial client in the works.

>>

Yes you can trade cards and even packs. But the crafting system we got right now is way cheaper and efficient.
I do wish they kept the tournament feature around, though.
>>
>>56529198
>>56529200

thank you. I was just able to piece everything together after finding enough clues. In MTGO you are able to buy / sell / trade cards just exactly like the physical cards. I see for PTCGO the secondary market was against ToS and you basically just had a DIY one-way premium currency of tradeable boosters. Where as MTG Arena no-trade card crafting is a downgrade from MTGO it was actually an upgrade to go from PTCO to PTCGL in that regard.
>>
>>56529159
zard pidgeot is one of the free decks tho? you shouldn't have spent anything on it you would've had the cards already

>>
>>56529461
yeah im only missing teal masks and raging bolts but they're expensive so
>>
>>56529515
and then ogerpons can be used in other decks like hydrapple. soon enough you'll have all the multi-deck cards and the only things left to craft would single lines of pokemon like raging bolts that are deck exclusive.
eventually it becomes cheap as you need fewer cards each time. and cheaper when building new set decks too as you often get most the cards from the battlepass for free. it's just trying to get prior set cards takes a bit of catching up to craft

at first you wont get any credits to start off, but when you do get 4x of the cards, you start getting dupes, and since this set consists of only rare+ cards you get the most crafting credits value. you get 3.5k to 4k+ credits from 1 purchase of this when you have 4x of the cards

I thought having your bench filled turn 1 would be a great thing, no? Why is that cars that can put any number of basic Pokemon on your bench not higher in the list?
>>
>>56529825
You cut your desk of nest balls, poffin and search to run it instead, so if it's prized your deck kinda bricks.. Even if it's not you still need to somehow find the 1 card (or arvens) to find it out. Vs just running nest/poffin and getting at least some value out of the 3-8 basic search you have in the deck
>>
>>56529811
I'd be inclined to move Neutralisation zone up a tier. It may be easy to counter in theory but if you don't drop it too early and your opponent doesn't have removal you can shut down your opponent's deck entirely. I drew one late into a match and won despite dealing terrible damage because my opponent just couldn't hit me.

newbie to the game, been playing irl for a couple weeks now
should I wait for tcg pocket to drop to get into the digital scene of the game or will it not matter much? also, what are the main differences we know so far between live and pocket?
mechanically there's a lot of small things that have been stumping me that I pick up on after a little bit, but is there a rulings resource i can look into of any sort? semantics of text has felt very "whatever it feels like" in terms of how things work at times, so I'm not confident that just reading the relevant cards is enough half the time
how hard will i get stomped on tcg live ladder with off meta? in particular, wugtrio mill? been doing relatively fine with it at locals but very few actually played top tier decks to begin with, so I haven't faced much super fast ramp up yet and know I'd get stomped against that reliably. is there something with a similar control style that can compete well enough or would I need to pivot to something like blocklax for a control strat?
>>
>>56535294
If you're familiar with Yugioh, Pocket is the "Duel Links" version of Pokémon TCG, and if I'm not mistaken Pocket has completely new cards made for the game that are not available in PTCG. Also while Duel Links is competitive Pocket seems completely casual (no ranked yet)
>>
>>56535378
I see, good to know
I'll give live a go and see how i fair, does it have the typical dusting system? feels like a no brainer but duel links exists so I gotta ask
>>
>>56535474
Yes you can craft cards but you can't disenchant. You can get dust only if you get more than 4 copies of a type of card. What people do is keep buying the same bundle (usually celebrations) or the same starter decks so that after your second purchase you start getting 3-4k dust for every purchase (for reference a common is 40 dust, an ex card goes for 600). I don't know what's the best thing to buy right now to get dust tho. Also the game gifts you very strong and competitive decks right at the start (charizard pidgeot) so if you like those you can just spend in upgrading the starters.
>>
>>56535487
mildly annoying but workable, sounds like they're generous enough that it's not a real problem even if you want to build meme decks
I'll do more digging and messing with it at a later point, but I've already gotten multiple errors just trying to load the game after my first session so we'll see

It lets you remove 2 prize liabilities off board, like rotom, lumineon and squawk, so your opponent doesn't have an easy 2 prize KO on them later. This can be used against control decks too, so they can't trap your non-attackers in the active, you can turo them off board
Also it can be used to remove your damage stage 2 pokemon, like dragapult and charizard. At 330 HP they'll often survive a hit, so you can turo them to deny your opponent knocking them out.

It is mostly a "win more" card, to help deny routes for your opponent to win

I'm not sure if it'll really help since you'd need to have your mons attached with psychic energies, which isn't a problem of course, but the problem is that you'll also put at least 2 damage counters on those mons and that means it's easier for Dragapult to snipe. Yes there's Moonlit Hill to heal those damage but you WANT damage for your Drifloon/Scream Tail for attacking, and with all the energies spread there's almost none to attach and put more damage on them.

>+70 dmg per damage counters on this Pokemon
Why are we getting so much damage bloat recently?
And I thought +160 damage just for having a Special Condition on yourself is bonkers

+10 damage two years later is insane powercreep
>>
>>56538097
You can use It as a forest seal Stone slave so it might be worth it.
>>
>>56538257
You forgot to take into account the +100 HP and 1 less energy cost. And idk, maybe also being able to have 4 copies of these in a deck instead of one?
Yes, it is insane powercreep.

I just hit zard rank. is it worth to grind out to ultra ball league or will it just reset me to the bottom of great ball again?
>>56538204
you can probably use this to replace the arcanines in the arcanine ex deck the game gives you and make it way more powerful. I might try it out
>>
>>56538204
There's no consistent way to both build up the energy and apply damage counters
>Basin
Only half, you still need 5 damage counters to OHKO zard. If you're just going to damage pump stuff you may as well just play zoroark and OHKO stuff even easier
>>
>>56538204
With Hero's Cape that's 35 damage counters max, which equals to 2450 damage
Is this the highest amount of damage possible in the game? Or is there an even more broken multiplier than this

It's high for what could be realistically achieved in a normal game.
Standard has slowking copying cinccinno's attack with 50+ energy. Expanded has infinite altered creation loops.
>>
>>56538610
with Kieran you can squeeze in another 30 attack if you're attacking an ex or V pokemom

Deoxys Vstar with a burn brightly charizard on both sides. Conservative estimate of 45 fires on each active.
>90 energy doubled = 180 energy + 1 psychic
>181x60 = 10860

>Standard has slowking copying cinccinno's attack with 50+ energy
How does that work? You can't accelerate Special Energy to Slowking with Gardy right?
>>56538657
Okay yeah this definitely has a higher damage cap.
Now that you mention it, I wonder why Burn Brightly Zard isn't used that much. Sounds like a super broken ability, but it is on a Stage 2 so I kinda get it.
>>
>>56538667
>How does that work? You can't accelerate Special Energy to Slowking with Gardy right?
You spend 50 turns attaching energy since it's not a real competitive match.
>>
>>56538682
Then why bother with Slowking??
>>
>>56538688
Standard is not dpp era where a colorless pokemon can hit for weakness.
>>
>>56538695
Ah keep forgetting about weakness.
That's kinda funny how Colorless is weak to itself. Now if only they bring that back but for Dragon types...

the massacre continued...

i tried cinderace charizard and had fun, the only problem was somehow not getting enough basics or enough items to set up (2 pidgey, 2 scorbunny, 2 charmander, delphox v and rotom v)

Any reason I shouldn't build this deck?
>>
>>56539009
None, it's fun. The only exclusive cost would be 3x hydrapple, the rest of the cards are used in other decks. It will lose practically nothing to the upcoming rotation so it's not gonna die off like many other archetypes

[L][C] Protection Code: 40 damage. During your opponent’s next turn, prevent all damage done to your Future Pokémon by attacks from your opponent’s Pokémon ex. If this Pokémon leaves the Active Spot, this effect stops working.

Whats the fucking point in that then LMAO

This guy seems decent for moon decks, double colorless means you can continue running all deck. There's a lot of fighting weak mons around for this to be relevant

I ended up going with this. I think it fits me better and I really like this Dipplin's effect against certain decks.
>>
I like pocket tcg do you?
>>
>>56539581
I can't play it yet, but I typically prefer full versions of card games rather than cut down ones so I'll probably stick to Live.
>>
>>56539581
Haven't bothered with the early access, how does the trading work? Is it friends only?
>>
>>56539581
From what I've gathered is more focused around collecting and appreciating the artworks while the game part itself is more secondary. I'm more interested in playing the complete version without cutdowns.

>Sandy shocks kicked out of raging bolt
>>
>>56538719
>Colorless is weak to itself.
thats just because colorless was used as dragon type before dragon type was a thing
>>
>>56539694
Shocks can still attack turn 1 and without sada. Koraidon is good for the midgame turns where bolt would typically just rotom/lumineon/fezandipit.i

Been trying to come up with a good way to make dividers for my binders.
I did this test laminating wrappers and i think it looks pretty good, but im not sure if laminating all my wrappers from base set-gym heroes is retarded or not.
I dont really plan on ever selling the wrappers but i'd hate for the lamination to degrade and ruin them..
Wat do?
>>
>>56540001
might wanna ask in >>56534985
>>
>>56540001
Do not laminate your old wrappers, the adhesive will eventually yellow and crack, might be 2 years might be 15 years, but if you ever want to replace it, you cant, the adhesive has been melted onto the surface of the package, it will tear the ink if you ever try to remove it.
Try rigid plastic document holders, theyre typically tight enough to keep them in place without them jostling around.
>>
>>56540063
My bad, didnt realize there were different generals.
>>56540075
Thanks anon, ill try that
>>
>>56539939
Could see both being run, but koraidon being able to 2prize ohko stuff like mew, fez, rotom is honestly huge for raging bolt. It lets you cheat the prize mapping putting them on odd prizes
