Leaks got me interesting in trying out Masters in my spare time, how is it for a newcomer? And is this one of those games where you should only join at a specific time of the month, like with Granblue Fantasy which gives you a minorly better selection in the future for potential dolphin-ing if you joined during the twice a month rate-up fest?

when you start doesnt really matter, though I will say we just had anniversary, so it'll be a while for those super powerful units to come back.

Right now I'd advise to just do some story missions and reroll on one of the triple pokefair banners or master fair kris, any of those units will comfortably be your strongest while you clear story missions and build up your account.

There are a bunch of different types of free units, so it's newbie friendly in that regard (you dont have to immediately spend money to play).

It's a relatively low maintenance/daily mission type gacha though, so dont expect a ton of gameplay after beating the story.

My last annoying newfaggot question is how bad are the bottom of the barrel characters, and how good are the top of the top, relatively speaking? I understand in a gacha basically everything will be passable for story or event purposes, and my days of tryharding PVP events basically died with with my 12 hour a day grind in 2019 Granblue, but from my very short digging around it seems like the game has you tend to focus more on building the characters rather than the weapons, or in this case Pokemon, which has me worried that I could just fuck myself in the reroll process by not getting much to carry me if that makes sense.

There's no pvp though and recently the focus has been more on having a varied roster vs a single stupidly strong team. There's also no pvp, so there's no point metafagging. The game is really accessible as even freebie shitters still can carry in any non giga endgame content (which btw doesn't give scout currency in any meaningful quantity anyway).

The rates are some of the best and differ on banner type
- seasonals have fixed 2% on first run and then have shitty 0.5-0.25% reruns, but rerun yearly and have the best piggy selects (1 multi worth of paid gems = guaranteed unit of choice) and have the best outfits but age the worst USUALLY meta wise
- pokefairs are 2% and are usually the most variable units, which keep getting buffed so almost non of them (there's 70) is actually shit
- Master fairs are 1% and are usually the crème de la crème units of the type, and cover most bases of what you'd want in a unit, but rerun rarely and can sometimes be just not as good as a fully invested pokefair
- arc suit pairs are basically master fairs on crack, but out of the 3 we got 2 months ago, 1 is op but really wants 3-5/5 (which requires huge investment), one is broken 1/5 already and one is kinda shit (this is meta wise) so they're very hit or miss

I'm the kind of guy who spent 70k in 2 seasonal in a master fairs heavy month and never complained because outfits > everything else for me. New players should scout a meta unit or two at the start to be sure to keep up, but content as was already said is varied enough and without PvP there's no reason to fully focus on meta anyway, so out of the 300k gems we get yearly (which is 9-10 pities' worth) you can invest most of them in yoir waifus or husbandos and not meta

If I can give you some banner and unit reroll recommendation:
#1 the gauntlet banner (WHICH ENDS TOMORROW so you'd need to reroll today) as it has Rei, an incredibly amazing unit at base copy count, with amazing DPS and great sync nuke, alt gloria, that covers 3 types in 1 because of type change (and both flying and fighting have very mediocre freebies), plus Sygna suit Hilbert can also cover multiple bad starting types (electric, ice, bug especially). Easily the best banner of the month imo.

#2 the Sygna suit N, Sygna Suit Roxie and Kabu banner, as N can patch your immediate ice needs while synergizing greatly with the f2p ice king (ghetsis) and ignoring stage gimmicks that can be extremely annoying for new players, Roxie is all around a fantastic unit for both poison and electric and kabu is a fine limited support with pretty good anti gimmick checking (he's lower worth over the other 2 imo tho)

#3 probably Sygna suit Kris (master fair) just because she's still an amazing unit after 2.5 years, and supports are extremely more valuable than damage units in PoMa. Still idk if it's worth doing more than a first multi reroll on MFs because odds are extremely lower than triple pokefairs (4.5% featureds Vs 1%) so it can be a burnout, but she's a pretty good second choice if #1 and #2 become unavailable.

Another thing is that you could also just stock up gems for December, but saving and getting shafted would hurt A LOT so idk. December will 100% have rerunning master fairs, new master/arc fairs so that period is gonna be prime rerolling/investing time for new accounts

Once you're done rerolling take your shiny limited and give it a spin in story and legendary adventures, that's where you'll obtain a ton of freebies and gems to scout. The economy rn is around 2/3 of a pity per month and while rates are really good in this game, scouting without 36k (pity worth) ready is a really bad
idea, especially early on.

Adding to this, the weekly modes difficulties are all customizable and largely frozen in time. The Elite 4 battle rotations was last updated... February 2023 with Kalos, it looks like?. So that gives you some degree of leeway, and means most units from 2022 or so onwards are still relevant in at least that context, since the content never entirely outgrew them. Nearly all types have at least one (many two or three, even) strong giveaway or F2P attackers sufficient for them, provided you get a couple of dupes to let you max out their skill trees and get them to rank 6 (EX) to power up their super moves. Most of the F2P units will eventually get pushed out when you dial the difficulty high enough, but many of them also have enough going on to justify including or even Karenfagging them if you really want to. They basically keep devaluing all their different banner types and give less gems than they used to to try to force people to spend money. They made up these extremely low effort limited banners called variety scouts that are almost entirely recycled content. Everyone is limited for no good justifiable reason. They pretty much stopped trying to justify it 2 years in. Incompetence and greed.

Spotlights wouldn't have been devalued if they didn't create master fair banners and scout tickets. People didn't have any problem rolling spotlights until DeNA actively decided to deincentivise it. There are plenty of games that don't end up like this and actually handle the pools properly. I don't know why they think spotlights are such a huge problem when I didn't get any of last year's until the anniversary when ticket pools updated. If they sucked it up and kept adding spotlights anyways the rates would be so low you'd have to roll a dedicated banner and maybe people would actually want to roll them. It's not the players' fault they decided on this regional ticket shit. The normal tickets would have been fine on their own since the odds of getting 1 specific character is pretty low. The "generosity" is what bit this game in the ass and reversing course or milking harder just pisses off players.

Pokefairs are currently being devalued because how often they get rerun with okay odds in shared banners and how the game is actually comfortable giving them away sometimes. The game doesn't give holidays or Master Fairs away. And holiday reruns have much shittier rates than Pokefair reruns. You are more likely to get a Pokefair you missed than any other non spotlight banner type.

- their reruns are common for some units but not for others, especially some newer pokefairs can go a year without any rerun, and often get a very varied mixed bag with old PFs that aren't interesting, so this variance helps pickup different tastes and keeping people from skipping first run, while still teasing old slippers with reruns

if you want to run ss gio to the max, run him with Fall Roxanne (she doesnt eat gauge), get him to 3/5 and EXR.

Any tank would help, NC Blue for example.

Same for Maxie, but you can run him with SS Morty. And Courtney or Rika as your sides. Typically i have him 2/5 and i gave him his EXR, but mostly for Rally.

For Ghetsis, NC Blue helps with everything he needs. All you need is an Ice Zone user. If you get his Power Boost + EX, NC Blue should still be useable for him.

When you're down low, and you have 2 or so pities around, and on a month where you dont have a favourite, and a month has a pair that might help your roster, that could be considered when you roll or skip a month/banner or something.

Just be sure to not roll without pity, you'll get a lot of negatives.

Marnie's only decent units are her NC Moltres and Palentine Mawile that has been powercrept by Selene, AS Steven and A2 Lillie, her lodge is trash, Summer goblin mogged hard by later release fairies and her Morpeko is a total meme.
This is interesting because Nemona has the same trend with total bait pokefair and masterfair banners followed by average freebies. This is also true for Shauna, her DC unit might even be better than her gacha ones.
